Serious question, who would you take if you had one roster spot left, Ade or TP?
-
He only attempted ten three pointers in two years! He is no Walter P for 3.

If we are still willing to spend 250K on an assistant...and I have no reason to believe we will not, then I don't think it will be too difficult for Miles to find a solid replacement. Solid replacement or not, the Bruno hiring was a complete disaster, because of what Burno just did. He did us no good by being here, no recruits that he had contacts with are coming, and he completely screwed us by leaving - Harriman left 2 1/2 months ago and it will be another month probably to get the next replacement, so NU is basically an assistant short for an entire summer of recruiting. Plus it feeds a perception that assistants won't stay here - why would a recruit sign because of a relationship with an assistant if he thinks that assistant won't stay?

What a dick. Hurley, that is.

Here are the total season stats for the scholarship players from the last 20+ years who were 6'9" or over and played as true freshmen at Nebraska. Year Player MIN PTS REB BLK 2015 Jake Hammond 36 3 7 2 2013 Sergej Vucetic 18 8 2 0 2010 Brandon Ubel 507 142 51 5 2005 Aleks Maric 562 216 169 16 2003 Wes Wilkinson 296 53 55 6 2003 Roy Enright 48 5 7 0 2002 John Turek 571 136 155 39 2002 Dan Heimos 150 24 17 10 1998 Brant Harriman 336 63 81 19 1996 Venson Hamilton 467 196 161 39 1994 Mikki Moore 87 31 13 10 Hopefully Hammond's improvement mirrors Mikki Moore's, but he's got big strides to make before you can expect him to be a major contributor this season.

You will never find a woman's roster, in any sport or for any team, that lists the players' weights.

I probably wouldn't assume he'll carry a huge burden right out of the gate. There will be a lot of competition for minutes in the back court. Parker's gonna get his minutes. Webster/Watson/Evelyn will be battling it out for the rest. I don't think it's automatic that GW gets the bulk of those. I think that competition will be pretty fierce. Do you think Watson will be as good as, say, Cookie Miller as a freshman? Here are Cookie's stats as a freshman, on a 20 win team: 26.6 mpg, 6.1 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.9 spg, 2.1 tpg, 38.4 FG%, 67.8 FT%, 24.6 3P% Meanwhile, Benny's stats as a junior, on a 13 win team, were: 28.2 mpg, 4.2 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.5 spg, 1.2 tpg, 34.2 FG%, 71.4 FT%, 29.3 3P% More tellingly, here are Benny's stats from the nine game losing streak at the end of the year. 24.0 mpg, 1.1 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.2 spg, 0.8 tpg, 12.0 FG%, 66.7 FT%, 00.0 3P% In those last nine games Benny was 3-25 from the field, 0-9 on 3-pt attempts. I know that he gives tremendous effort on defense, but I don't think that he's a lock to play significant minutes.

Max Bielfeldt (Michigan 2015 Transfer)
Dead Dog Alley replied to gobigredbrah's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I would think that no one has ever gone from 36 minutes in a season to 30 minutes a game the next year. And I would think that it's not going to happen here. -
Max Bielfeldt (Michigan 2015 Transfer)
Dead Dog Alley replied to gobigredbrah's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I guess he could replace Hanner Mosquera-Perea, who ironically also had his best career game going against WP. Or maybe unsurprisingly is a better term to use than ironically. -
If only Rex Mellencamp from Seymour Indiana had changed his name to Rex Cougar or Rex Cougar Mellencamp, he might have done more than just play on the Junior Varsity for the Huskers.
-
True, too true.
-
I agree with this. He'd be perfect for us, too! Like as a walk-on? If he had played against WP every night he would have been an All American.

Rankings for 2016 Targets
Dead Dog Alley replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
If we use all 13 scholarships this year, and if we don't get a senior graduate transfer, we'd have two seniors leaving with Pinder and Roby already committed. Yes there will probably be more attrition - late recruits seem to be more likely to move on, i.e. Tarin Smith - but will this limit the number of early signees they will try to get? -
Here are some questions about the backcourt. Can Benny play the point on offense without another strong ball handler in the game? For the last half of 2015 his contribution on offense was bringing the ball past half court if there was no pressure, passing it immediately to TP or SS, and then not looking very hard to get the ball back. Against full court pressure - well, enough said. Can Watson and Benny play at the same time? Will Tai ever start shooting well? If you go with Benny and Tai at the same time are teams defending you 5 on 3 again? Can White or McVeigh handle the ball well enough and defend well enough to play the 2? If White can't play the 2, and you need White and Shields to give you 30 minutes, that puts Shields at the 4 for at least 20 minutes a game. Can you play Shavon there that much, with an undersized 5 and a small backcourt, and not get killed on the boards?

Hey, it worked when we redshirted Cookie Belcher! Oh wait, no it didn't, Barry Collier came in the next year and shoe-horned a senior laden team into a system they weren't fit for, and threw away a season when Nebraska had more talent than they ever have had since. (I know, apples and oranges comparison since he was injured his fourth year.)

The refs suck - NCAA tournament edition
Dead Dog Alley replied to brfrad's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Games that are fixed by the refs are usually called fairly for large stretches of the game. The refs will maybe hammer a team for a five minute stretch and cause a big run, then when the game is out of hand they will even it out. Or, like tonight, they will call it even until it gets to crunch time, then every close call goes one way. If you haven't witnessed this you aren't watching closely enough. -
A great sport except for criminals officiating it.
-
Officiating is deciding this one. Crooked.
-
They beat Kansas twice in 1991, handled them in the Big 8 tournament and in Lincoln, really should have beat them in Lawrence too except for the typical officiating you get down there. And Kansas made the finals. Creighton won an NCAA tournament game that year too, even though Nebraska beat them 97-63 in a game that wasn't as close as the score indicated.

Extremely Disappointed & Concerned
Dead Dog Alley replied to hhcdave's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Here are the combined stats of the returning players from 2013 going into 2014, from 2014 going into 2015, and those from this season going into next year if Petteway doesn't return. (That also assumes that Webster, Hammond, and Fuller all do come back.) 2014: 116.8 mpg, 28.9 ppg, 13.2 rpg, 5.5 apg, 3.3 spg, 1.1 bpg, 39.2 FG%, 62.1 FT%, 30.5 3PT% 2015: 158.1 mpg, 54.4 ppg, 25.6 rpg, 7.3 apg, 5.6 spg, 2.8 bpg, 44.2 FG%, 72.6 FT%, 33.2 3PT% 2016: 86.6 mpg, 24.6 ppg, 11.0 rpg, 5.2 apg, 3.2 spg, 0.5 bpg, 40.8 FG%, 78.6 FT%, 23.4 3PT% And here is the returning stats of just the underclassmen (Webster, Hammond, and Fuller). 23.1 mpg, 5.0 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 1.3 apg, 0.7 spg, 0.3 bpg, 38.1 FG%, 72.3 FT%, 25.0 3PT% -

Indeed. And I just did. Northern Illinois had a 6'4" post player that outplayed Tony Farmer in the first half of that game. That guy was impressive.

Steratore is a crook.
