You can, but I don't know what your basis for saying it would be.

Cue board angst. I'll defer to Coach's judgment.

Wow; I had no idea Damon Bailey was coaching women's basketball. That will be an interesting one to watch.

Thanks, 49r. I should have thought to check that dictionary myself. Consider my vocabulary enhanced.

Since I am starting to get lots of senior discounts, I need a translation: Is "wet" a good thing?

Man, I think it might be a big stretch to say we got 3 nba cats. I see maybe one. Recruitin high level kids ia gonna continue ta suffer til Miles sends cats to the nba. All top kids think they good enough to play in da league and want a coach that gets kids there. Miles ia good x and o coach and good bench coach. SO FAR, he hasnt proven to be a better recruiter than the last two coaches here. that may change, but results so far be the same. Couldn't disagree more with the recruiting part of the last paragraph. While recruiting under Miles so far has proven to remain a difficult task, he has definitely recruited better than his two predecessors. No comparison. More quality at the top with guys like Petteway and Pitchford. And way fewer absolute reaches, ridiculous projects and total busts at the bottom. Fair enough. I shoulda said HIGH SCHOOL recruiting. Miles done good with transfers but it gonna be hard to find a Petteway to transfer in on a regular basis. Yes, high school recruiting has been difficult, and it is probably too early to tell if Miles has better high school recruiting than his two predecessors--but I will be surprised if Fuller, Hawkins (will have to follow from afar), Tai, Tarin, and Hammonds, plus anyone signed this fall don't turn out to be an upgrade from what Barry and Doc were signing; plus it seems clear already that Miles isn't bringing in the number of total stiffs that his predecessors did.

Not sure where you're coming from in saying the women's program doesn't have any more tradition than the men's team. The women got their first NCAA tournament win in the 1980s. They won a conference title in '88. Got another NCAA tournament win in the 90s. Obviously, the last 8 years the contrast has been dramatic, with 2 sweet 16s, a Big 12 title, a Big 10 tournament title, multiple NCAA tournament wins. You are correct, albeit understated, in noting the amount of in-state talent in the last 10-15 years in Nebraska high school girls basketball. It has been beyond "decent", it has been ridiculous in comparison to boys in producing upper D-1 talent. That was the basis for Yori upgrading the program. We weren't getting big-time national recruits until very recently, primarily the current freshmen class. We did it with under the radar national recruits like Griffin (lightly recruited until the very end due to being from Alaska), Danielle Page (a project, not offered by her home state of Colorado) and even Theriot, who wasn't offered by Ohio State. Even Lindsay Moore wasn't recruited by the big-time programs. Yori recruits to a system, the staff has done well with player identification and development (also a strength, imo, with Miles), and has had the benefit of having numerous difference makers within a couple hundred miles of Lincoln. But if the perception is that we have been signing a bunch of 4 and 5 stars for an extended period of time, and beating the traditional powers head to head, that is not accurate.

Those are awesome. As an old tennis player, Stan Smiths were the deal.

Well whatever the Med School is, and whoever "has it", it sure as hell isn't Creighton's.
-
Nebraska's medical and law schools are exponentially better than Creighton's, and it's not even debatable. Only the biggest Omaha-based Creighton homers don't acknowledge this.

See you there, Row 6. I just hit "best available", and they gave me A section aisle seats on the side, Row 3! I guess that works.

You may be right...but I still think she could end up being even better than we realize right now. She was a three sport - All State in Michigan as a Sr. (Softball pitcher, Volleyball, basketball.) May have been Player of year in Michigan basketball ? (At least that's what I recall.) And was All State in a couple of sports as a Jr. Never has focused in one sport until last year, here at NU. I remember in an article a couple of years ago, that her coach (don't recall which sport)...said when she goes to college, and focus's (sp) on one sport, there may be no end to her potential. Just extremely athletic, with strong will to excel. I'm biased about all the NU athletes,...and I'll go out on a limb, and just say that I have a feeling she will start this year, as a replacement for Hooper, and be much improved. (feel free to chop that one all to pieces) Sure, there will be other "newbies" that I hope will get playing time inside, and at the wing, after they get their feet wet, But Havers has a full years of experience, and knows Yori's system. RedSteve, I don't think that your thinking is out of line at all. I know we have had this discussion in past about who the starters willbe. But if the front line goes 6'2 Cady, 6'5 Havers, 6'0 Sample for her Defensive ability and then you go 6'0 Theriot & 6'2 Page. I see Page displacing T as the shooting guard. I would think Page would play the 3 more than the 2. T gives a totally different defensive look. Connie likes to pressure and T is the best we have from that standpoint. Hard to keep that speed out of the lineup if the rest of her game is decent.

Somewhere Matt Coatney and Jeff Griesch are smiling....that name would have been a beast to pronounce....

I appreciate that sentiment. On the other hand, for our program, I think the Creighton game this year is HUGE. Arguably a win doesn't do that much for us, but a loss would be brutal. We absolutely need to win this game. First NU-CU game post-Doug, we have the more experienced team, we play in our crib. Time to assert ourselves in this state. A loss under the circumstances, and given recent history of the rivalry, could hurt the program momentum more than a loss against, say, a Cinci. I think the staff knows this. Kind of like Dr. Tom's old saying about "big games"--"they can become pretty big when you lose them".

interesting article; thanks for posting Row 6.

Have to respectfully disagree, Handy. If he stays injury free and has a great year, he is gone. He will get first round guaranteed money, and for a guy who will already have had 4 years of college, that is a no-brainer to take. He'll have to improve quite a bit to be a first-round lock. Not saying he won't... But I've heard his draft board response was possible late second round. I would bet he stays four years. I'll take that action.

Obviously you know what it is and under normal circumstances I would ignore it but why would you go on a thead about the WC and make that lame joke. There's no point poking the bee hive unless you're Ann Coulter and get paid to act the fool. Politics and sports shouldn't mix and feel free to make your anti-jokes with your crowd but there's very little difference between what you did and when some Creighton fan trolls this board.Dean, I have no problem with you smacking Colhusker for coming on the thread and dissing soccer, but it seems that you, and only you, brought politics into the thread. You'll have to go back and show me where I mentioned politics. I compared two people who I thought needlessly poked the bee hive. Now one of them seems to have some connection to political commentary but I'm not sure where pro or anti soccer statements place you on the political spectrum. I didn't realize pointing out hive pokers placed me on a political "team." It is OK to sometimes be critical of your favorite basketball team but never your favorite political team? I've never discussed the balance between political and economic freedom nor the fundamental nature of Man on this board so I'm pretty sure you'd have no accurate idea of my political leanings, nor do I have any interest in offering any clues on a basketball board. Then why didn't you mention Keith Olbermann instead of, or in addition to, Ann Coulter? He's a classic "hive poker", not to mention mean as hell and dismissive to anyone not agreeing with his views. Anyway, read your own post. You mentioned politics. You've hammered people on here who don't like soccer since the beginning of time. You know, not everyone needs to like the sport. You're quite defensive about it. Well i took your advise and re-read my post and nope still no mention of politics there. I mentioned Ann and not Keith because she just did the "soccer is ruining America" bit and Keith did not. Mentioning her name is not politics. If I wanted to talk politics and make a list of mean-spirited people the list could go on forever from both sides of your game. Personally for me the most annoying liberal commentator is that Ed Shultz guy. Now that I've mentioned people on both Fox & MSNBC am I OK. I could care less if you or anyone else likes soccer. And I believe the only person I have "hammered" on this board has been Kidney et al. It does seem your second post does contradict your original statement of "I have no problem...." So from where I'm sitting you seem to be the defensive one and I'm guessing would not have posted if I left Anne's name out of things. And yes, I guess I have resorted to poking your hive. Well, you got on CWG pretty hard just recently. And back from that you basically said if someone doesn't like soccer, they can't be knowledgeable about basketball. As for your post, the word "politics" was taken verbatim from the post. You know a lot about basketball, and I know many of us appreciate your posts in that regard. But your memory is a little short on this other stuff, and I believe you really do care about whether people like soccer, despite your claim to the contrary. Anyway, enough. Have a nice evening.

Actually, Humphrey gets an exemption from the political ban, since he's from Doland, South Dakota, also the hometown of someone near and dear to HHC.

Wow, there must be some really sick pups on there.

Indiana's Tracey Smith takes the Arizona State job. Wow. A blow to the Big 10. He's a heckuva coach.

The only way I'd hesitate is wondering what promises were made to the currently committed recruits. If they were told they wouldnt recruit any other player at said position and go against their word it may not end well for NU. Good point. And I agree if that was the case.
