  1. Clearly you know nothing about basketball to make that statement about Craig Smith being a zero.
  2. You are actually making a case to fire Miles. Every year, we have enough talent to win and every year, it seems like we have an excuse why it doesn't happen. That has been the motto of NU basketball for years is "wait till next year". This year was going to be our "next year" and it totally collapsed under Miles. Even losing Copeland, this team had enough talent to win games and Miles hasn't gotten the job done. Both years under Miles that we actually had high expectations (the year following our NCAA bid and this year) have both been huge disappointments. Miles can't seem to capitalize on his own success. Miles was deemed a program building coach but it is clear that Craig Smith was the reason for much of that success. Miles is 1 game over .500 right now in 7 years with 1 NCAA bid and that was only because we got hot down the stretch. I'm ready to take a step backwards if it finally means 2 steps forward for this program. If Miles can't win with this the talent on the team this year, I see no indication he would win with the talent on next year's team as well. If we are returning as much talent as you mention, then it shouldn't be a total rebuild for a new coach. I also think season tickets sales would drop dramatically if Miles was retained.
  3. Those are both good examples but if those are the only 2 players over the past 7 years that have developed and improved under Miles (those are all I can think of as well), that is not a good sign.
  4. Some brackets already have them listed as next 4 out right now so they can easily play their way in (which sucks). Even with our 7 game losing streak, if we would have finished the job and beat Minnesota and Maryland on the road like we should have, we'd probably still be in the field right now. Amazing what a difference a game or two can do to your season.
  5. Creighton is currently 16 - 13 so if they win their last 2 games (which they should), it puts them at 18 - 13 instead of 19- 12. If they win a couple games in the Big East tournament, they could finish the year at 20 - 14. They are like NU last year, they don't really have any quality wins on their resume though but they could still be in the conversation to get in. Heck, this might be a year that Creighton and UNO both get in and NU don't make any post season. Wouldn't that be a kick in the groin.
  6. I'd say the same thing if I was a coach that gets to coach against him and pick up a win every year.
  7. No, it wouldn't be hard to fire him even under that scenario. Getting hot for the final games of the year won't overshadow the failures he has had over the past 7 seasons. He has done less with more talent than any coach we have had here.
  8. You obviously never played sports. If you are a competitor, you never concede anything.

  10. Most brackets either have us in or listed as "first 4 out". At this point, we don't need any more quality wins (although it would help) but we just need more wins on our resume. We have 6 games left. If we can go 4-2 in that stretch, I think it might be enough to get in. if we go 3-3, we'd need to win a few games in Big 10 tournament. If we go 2-4, we need to win the Big 10 tournament to get in.
  11. Miles will not be retained regards of how the season finishes. AD is looking for consistency in the program and it has been anything but that the past 7 years. So even if we get hot down the stretch and still make The Dance, we will have a new coach next year. Miles overall resume after 7 years doesn't warrant him getting an 8th season.
  12. That is true for last year but overall, if you look at the top 10 highest attended spring games ever, NU comes in at #8 with Ohio State taking the top 3 spots followed by Georgia at #4 and then Alabama #5 - #7. NU is 8th followed by Alabama and Auburn.
  13. Very well written. I have the same feeling. I was and to some degree still am a big Miles guy. He seems to say all the right things that make you believe things will get better and yet they just never did. He is handling this situation with class and still working hard to make the tournament. Obviously, we need to get hot to finish the year starting now but the rankings still like us. No matter what happens, I wish nothing but success for Coach Miles in where ever he ends up.
  14. Selling out the stadium and best fans are not the same thing. Selling out a spring game is a "fan" thing that this state likes to pat themselves on the back for. There are other spring games that draw more fans. No question the Nebraska fan base is a proud one but overall, there are better fans that are louder and just as devoted to their team. That was my point
  15. Love that Nebraska fans are the "self proclaimed" best fans in the country. Guess when the football and basketball teams are horrible, you have to have something to pat yourself on the back about. There are much better fan bases than Nebraska but you can never convince anyone from inside this state of that fact.
  16. No, but do we know for a fact that he won't? Nobody is a lock to do well here as we've learned the last 100 years. I'm sure it would be very uncomfortable for him but hard to turn down an opportunity to coach in a major conference. If Miles is truly his friend, he would be happy and support his decision and rise in the coaching ranks.
  17. I'd take Craig Smith as our next head coach in a heartbeat!!!
  18. Keep in mind Doc only tried to schedule cupcakes in the non-conference schedule to rack up wins. If Doc played the schedule that Miles schedules, his record would be much worse.
  19. NOPE
  20. I think a win tonight puts us in the top 15
  21. NAILED IT!!!!! Other than I think he is a senior
  22. Interesting stats. However, I disagree with you on potential extension for NIT bid and run in the tournament. I don't think he will get a 1 - 2 year extension as if we don't make the NCAA tournament this year, he will be fired regardless. And rightly so. If he can't make the dance with this team, then it's time to part ways with Miles. Also, in reference to the opening comments for this thread, you don't keep a coach just because you might lose some players. That should not factor into the decision. Anytime you get rid of a coach, that can happen. You can have players transfer or lose potential recruits. In relationship to football, Bill Callahan could recruit decent players but couldn't win. So you should never fire him in case we loose some of the recruits he had signed? At some point, you have to cut your losses and just move on.
  23. I said the same thing for this year if Palmer and Copeland come back
  24. This site is projecting us as 2 seed in the NCAA tournament. That is the highest I've seen us projected. The Bracketmatrix which compiles lots of rating sites has us as a 5 seed. Hard to believe but most sites still have CU making the field as well this year. http://www.rtsratings.com/cbb_bracket.asp
