  1. I would argue that you are in a high mid major conference. You will play plenty of those games. Out of curiosity, where do you all think the Big East falls now in the pecking order of conferences? Obviously it will be year to year based on results, etc. Do you all see the new conference as the fourth best, seventh, etc? Probably 6th looking at it not for any one year but a general guideline going forward. With the size of the leagues now, that equates to around 8th in previous seasons. I never cared for the term mid major though. Mountain West not the same as the Valley etc. They should not be lumped in as such. Big East is closer to a power league than a mid major. Right ahead of the Mountain West in the long run. Actually probably quite a ways ahead of them in the long run but I believe lagging behind the other 5 leagues.
  2. I live in Omaha. The offshore heyday is long gone but still decent. Used to be a goldmine. That is why I got into high stakes fantasy sports to have another income stream. Vegas doesn't offer the things I specialize in anyway, so it wouldn't help me to live there. I have started to migrate into large daily fantasy sports action as well. Got creamed early on in baseball but think I figured it out and ended up profitable. Ultimately I am hoping I find that I can just focus on that as the offshore places can be the Wild Wild West to an extent. Been stiffed a lot.

  4. Norm, he's obviously just a Creighton hater just looking to take pot shots. There was zero analysis, statistics or any support whatsoever to his conclusion; he's just shooting from the hip and obviously trying to stir up problems. The next positive or complimentary thing he says about Creighton will be the first since I started watching your board. Now, that is certainly his right, but it is impossible to take any "analysis" he spouts seriously when he is so biased toward the subject matter. I have an uncle that is a professional gambler and had to move to Las Vegas when the federal government cracked down on the offshore sports betting establishments. I have hung out with him and his friends while they are "working" and they have very detailed analyses, statistics, models and other things that they utilize. I have no idea if the above poster truly is a professional gambler, but most hardcore, successful gamblers are able to cite statistics, metrics or trends to support their conclusions; their analysis doesn't consist of calling a school "soft" or saying that a program sucks. The lack of analysis by someone who supposedly makes a living off of gambling makes me question the veracity of his alleged employment. He strikes me more as a guy who plays in a couple of fantasy football leagues and considers that "high stakes, professional gambling." (I'd also add that the couple of actual professional gamblers that I've met don't exactly go around telling people that they are professional gamblers. That a message board poster would do so screams insecurity and strikes me as an attempt to try to make himself sound more important or more informed than everyone else...) Creighton's defense was ranked 77th last year out of 340+ teams. That isn't spectacular, but it is hardly horrible. Further, it shows that the poster we are talking about knows little about what he speaks, which would certainly make him an exception among real life professional gamblers. Norm, I have enjoyed discussing college basketball and the make up of our teams. The discussion has been fact based and incredibly civil. Sadly, it comes to an end when you have posters like that guy. 1. WTF does me thinking a team is soft have to do with my gambling methods? This is idiotic. 2. I don't need models and complex number based systems. I win with my eyes and by simply knowing how to win. 3. You don't have a clue what I do, and your idiotic speculation makes you look stupid. 4. I do play High Stakes Fantasy Football. The highest stakes. The most leagues. Very large amounts of money. Rated number 1 high stakes fantasy football player around. Still that is not my day job. Gambling is. 5. If my job is a professional gambler why in the hell would I not claim that as my job? My tax forms claim it, that is what I am. How the hell does that make me insecure? That is incredibly asinine. I could give two shits about who thinks I am more or less informed. I post what I think. They can do what they want with it. 6. You seem to think I am lying. Well there is one way to find out. It is called the Royalfan challenge. I only do it for 20k or more. I have to get to 200 units in a calendar year with a max win on a single play of 5 units. I do it I win 20k. I lose you get 20k. I will crossbook your uncle and his sophisticated models(lol) if you like.
  5. Yeah I would be upset if I were a Creighton fan too. Fact of the matter is Creighton needed that game far more than we did while you were in the Valley.
  6. I know it is good analysis. Creighton has been very soft for many years. It is the reason they haven't been better with some good offensive skill. You are lying to yourself if you don't think so or do not have a very good eye.
  7. We certainly need to set up a schedule for people to put some thought into the game threads and take turns starting it in honor of Cip.
  8. Good luck Cip. I am a little confused on what owning a new venture has to do with checking in on this message board however? You are a needed presence. Are you still going to be venturing this way selling steaks etc? I will be damn sure to check out your joint when I venture back to Aurora. That doesn't happen very often since I don't have many ties back there anymore though. Good reason to get back a bit more often. Hope you find time for us once in a while You would certainly be missed. Was great to meet you.
  9. No you cannot stop people. You will be soft as usual.
  10. Pavelka tweeted yesterday that Agau is buried on the depth chart at Louisville. With Pitino's history of "cutting" players, maybe he'll come back home. I'm hoping Harriman can work his magic and find a good prospect out there somewhere. It's a long time until the Spring Signing Period. I kinda doubt that Kent has any idea what is going on at Louisville. He has a hard enough time getting the names right for guys that are actually on Nebraska's roster. I kinda doubt he would tweet that if he didn't have any idea.
  11. Yep, things still trending in the right direction Norm, with or without this kid.
  12. You are kidding yourself if you think it is a neutral sign that he is adding OSU athletes to his tweeting immediately after announcing he made his decision. Still hoping it doesn't matter, but it certainly is more negative for our hopes.
  13. Party appears to be over
  14. Pitchford and shields should be on the floor far more than most list IMO.
  15. I disagree with you insofar as you say not anywhere near as good. It might not be AS good, but I doubt it will be significantly worse. Just the infusion of athleticism and depth is going to help. Depth is good because it minimizes fatigue and keeps fresh legs out there, which are always important for defense. Athleticism speaks for itself. We lose some experience, but we're still returning 3 starters off of last year's team and I have to believe that, from everything that's been said about Petteway, he's going to be an intense player on both ends of the floor. So, last year's defense compared to this year would have looked like: '12-'13 '13-'14 Gallegos Gallegos Shields Shields Talley Webster? Rivers Petteway? Ubel Smith or Pitchford So, we'll have an identical lineup in at least 2 and possibly 3 spots if Rivers starts. And the only way Rivers gets knocked out of the starting lineup is if there's someone better to replace him. And I frankly think we'll see more rebounding from the post this year than last year. So ... Obviously I think our ceiling is too be a far superior defensive club than last year. That just isn't the way it is likely to work. It is human nature to give up more points when you have a far superior scoring outfit. We will give up more points, but the main thing is that we are efficient. We must not get trapped into believing we are more talented than we are. We have to be willing to dig in on defense, just like last year when we overachieved. If we can play at that level, even though it is a faster paced game, we have a chance to be a lot better. And that is what we all want. They key to this season is going to be how much we are willing to dig in on defense. So much so, that I hope Miles puts the guys on the floor that are willing to do so. After all we have a lot of candidates. I think we are on the same page for the most part Norm. You may be slightly more optimistic than I am about that end of the floor though.
  16. I am hopeful that our length all over the court is going to bode well for our chances of defending the 3 point line well.
  17. Miles is a far superior developer of talent though. So you most certainly will see more surprises and exceptions on the positive side. That is 100 percent stone cold lock.
  18. Can't imagine defense being anywhere near as good. We had to stress that phase big time last year to try and survive. I am hopeful we buy in this year as well even though we will have a much easier time scoring. We may be able to create more turnovers this year though with better athletes out there.
  19. Yeah he sucks though according to Creighton fan. It is completely hilarious that they know what is coming yet try and play it all off due to our history in that "delusional" thread(even though we easily control the series). That is the exact definition of the word. Those people are either the biggest lying POSt or the dumbest POS. Neither a good trait.
  20. 10000 comedians out of work and we have this horrific attempt at comedy.
  21. WTF......why do you do this? Why not is the better question.
  22. Yep we should wear black. Recruits dig it.
  23. Not to beat a dead horse, as I supported and liked Doc, but his substitution patterns were mind bogglingly bad as well if that is considered to be X's and O's. He had very little logic involved with them. Another thing Miles excels at and has a tremendous feel for.
  24. I usually agree with Norm, but not on Doc's X and O coaching ability. Wasn't quite as bad an offensive coach as many believe, I will give him that. But vastly overrated as a defensive coach. His help just to help stuff led to so many wide open completely uncontested threes. Horrible flaw in his scheme.
  25. LOL The insecurities over there are hilarious. It is comical to check in on every once in a while. Speaking of delusional, the thoughts they have about the quality of their mediocre league. Big East in name only. Trading Louisville, Syracuse, Pitt, ND, Uconn and Cincy for these little piss ant mid major programs is awesome. It is a complete embarrassment to the Big East name. Sad that all of the tradition of what was a great league is tarnished by this new shitty Big East.
