I know some are in disagreement with Petteway being the man. But I trust Miles to define what is a good shot for him and what is not. All good teams need a "go to guy." If he is it for us then so be it. He needs to be an adequate passer when he draws the defense and I think he has that capability.

He is needed. Not as much in a game like today. But in a normal game where you need some spacing, he is arguably our best shooter. We need him to be able to knock down what should be far more open threes this year.

Going to take some creative thinking on defensive scheming for sure. This was a good team to face. They were relentless going to the rack. Good team to face to adjust. The way that game was called was a benefit to UMASS. But Miles is a better defensive coach than that. He was not in good form defensively today, no question about it. I do not agree that is how the game is supposed to be called though.

I thought the changes were pretty clear, but seeing them get officiated is another issue. They wanted to increase scoring by cutting down on hand mugging, flopping on charges (which actually hurt us to day at a key moment), and last second sliding under an offensive player under the basket. that's pretty much it. there was nothing about never, ever again being able to make contact with another player. That charge on Deverell was the one that really hurt....He did not extend his elbow or anything like that...kicks out to Shavon and he hits a 3 that would have tied it. They flopped twice in the last minute and got both calls and tried for third when Tai dished to Rivers, who probably should have fallen down so he would have went to the free throw line. Flops are a killer this year... Because refs can not watch every player and every matchup... if you flop your likely going to get a call. What are you susposed to do as a defender when a guy cutting across the lane runs into you while your susposed to be plaing defense?? That call on Smith was horrid. He got bodyslammed according to that idiot announcing the game.

Flopping is very effective also under these rules. That is not a good thing.

ESPN 2 hour windows getting to make people miss a lot of basketball in that 2nd game. Although that game will pry be a foul fest as well but no 1-1 in early going of games so lot of ball will be missed. It is getting taken a bit overboard. Somewhere in between last year and this would be better. Hopefully it gets to that eventually.
