2019 PF Yvan Ouedraogo - LOI
Minnesota_Husker replied to Norm Peterson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Seems to play hard and not shy from contact. That being said, he reminds a bit of Jordy at times in terms of foot work-- gets a little "shuffle-happy" and gauges space by shoving his shoulder in to guys. The tape made me think there isnt a lot of height in the league he was in, so he would have to get use to playing against guys who are 6'9-7'0 where he is giving up a few inches. He seems to only shoot layups/or bunnies. All of these things are me being hyper-critical and I assume the staff sees him as a project. I am a bit more apprehensive on guys who would take a scholly for 4 years but I dont pretend to be a great basketball mind. -
2019 SG Jervay Green (Juco) - LOI
Minnesota_Husker replied to hhcmatt's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Isn’t it fun to have coaches in both football and basketball that seem to just “get it” when it comes to getting kids on board. They aren’t used car salesman, they just trust what they are building and have expectations. Who knows what happens with either team but it sure does feel like we can have some true success if we allow them to build it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I would take all of them.. but I don’t want to be greedy, so I am ok with just 1 or 2 of them! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Even if he isn’t a great fit, worth 1 year tester. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
If I had all those guys as options. I would go with: Guards: Cam Mack (eligible) Dachon Burke (eligible) Jervay Green (eligible) Haanif Cheatham (eligible) Eric Williams -SITS 1 YEAR Amir Harris Forwards: Joel Ntambwe -SITS 1 YEAR Akol Arop (eligible) Maurice Calloo -SITS half year Karrington Davis Center: Brady Heiman

I am very ok with this. Time to move on, but yet another open spot.
-
I think you would see a lot more 4 guard sets than what you listed above. Mack/Green/Burke/Harris and Heiman maybe? This lineup would still not be great. I do think we will land a few guys to fill it out still. And if Nana truly has it figured out, he probably lands in the starting lineup. Hoiberg and Co. still have a lot to do.

2018 F Ed Chang (Papillion-LaVista)
Minnesota_Husker replied to AuroranHusker's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Since this post, Akoy has already transferred to two different schools... and then transferred back to a different one. -
ROBY- So, even if he doesnt go NBA he might "andrew White" it? I would love if we could add 2 athletic 6'7-6'9 guys who can run/stretch the floor. But so would just about every other college, hence why the competition is so heavy.
-
The "likable but not very motivated/driven" shoe would fit both. Neither seem like they take things too seriously.
-
I might be in the minority, but I want Heiman to have 1 year with Hoiberg to see what he can do with him. My wish list is still similar, but I think a big wish is just making sure we get guys with the mentality to get after the ball. Rebounding has been so frustrating and I dont care if a guy is 7'1 or 6'7, you have to want that rebound and put your self in good position or you dont stand a chance. Cam Mack is #1 for me. I just dont see any true PG's on this team. This allows Green/Burke to play more off-guards and allows us to have pretty good depth. Still have no idea where we end up, but would love one of the UNLV guys.
-
Appreciate the heads up. You have a lot more insight than I do. I am going based on games and his involvement. I am not a big Nana fan, so I probably am being a bit unfair. Whatever it is, I hope he figures it out and has success either at Nebraska or somewhere.

Immediate help for next season
Minnesota_Husker replied to MichHusker's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I would be shocked on this one. This alongside getting Roby back would make us VERY legit. That being said, I think Blackshear is going to a place with other pieces in place where he can make a run. He also put his name in for the NBA draft and might go that route. I am thinking Roby gets graded around mid 2nd round. Does he want to go to the G-league and earn his way, or work in a new offense and hope he can be highlighted. Plus, Hoiberg has a ton of connections and could sell a kid who played for him better. Who really knows but I think if we can add one of the UNLV guys who visited, keep Roby, add Cam Mack and then maybe some more depth, I like our chances to at least be competitive. It is so hard because a lot of these guys are unknowns in some aspect. -
Fair but I havent seen anything from Nana that tells me he is ready to put in the work. This is going to come off as harsh, but from the very little bit I have seen from Nana I question his work ethic. He doesnt seem to understand he has to work to succeed. The not going to class thing bugs me because he let that get so bad Miles had to suspend him. I hope he figures it out but we have seen this before. Kids dont get what they have until they piss it away.
-
but why? I honestly havent seen anything from Nana that makes me think he will be a successful basketball player at this level. I think he has some athletic ability but the issue might be between the ears.

New Offer-Starter Day 1
Minnesota_Husker replied to huskerbaseball13's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
That is Terminators son. Dont you guys all feel old now? -

Tough thing here because while I would love some transfers, we also need guys to fill out this current roster. Ideally you fill 3 spots with guys who can play now and 2 spots for high ceiling guys who can replace who we lose. That being said, I still think we lose Nana and Roby(I hope not). If that were to happen we have 5 open spots. My hopes would be: 1- David Jenkins(guard)- SDSU- Sit 1 and play 2(I believe) 2- Cam Mack(Guard)- JUCO- play right away and be able to play at the 1. 3. Joel Ntambwe(Forward)/transfer- UNLV- I believe he has to sit a year? 4- Andre Allen- 6'8-Forward/ JUCO 5. Tomas Woldetensea- Guard/ Available now 6. Haanif Cheatham- Guard VERY concerned about our "bigs". We also need a true 1. Ideally Cam can come in and help there. Given that, I think you run with 3 guards anyways. Mack/Burke/Green. Lets just say we keep Roby and have 4 spots to fill. I would be very ok with Cam Mack, Joel Ntambwe, Andre Allen and Tomas or Haanif. I would love to focus in on some bigs to add depth but it is hard to truly know where we sit with some of these guys.

2019 SF Yavuz Gultekin -> Texas A&M
Minnesota_Husker replied to hhcmatt's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I have heard that Nebraska is the Turkey of the United States..... -
I wonder if they will block him from following Matt. LJ was a Juco kid. Had offers to Lousiville and Florida fresh out of Highschool but went to New Mexico State. Then when coach left he went JUCO instead of sitting a year out. Sounds like he was recruited by Matt to come to St. Johns.
-
Sadly in this day and age, to be a successful recruiter you probably have to have some loose morals. That doesnt mean breaking the law, but does mean bending the truth or feeding into a 17 year olds ego. I think most assume Miles ran a clean program but I would be willing to bet things happened under his guidance with assistants that never saw the light of day that might make people think differently. It happens. The thing is, I trust Hoiberg the same way I trust Frost. He knows how Matt works and therefore I am not too worried.

2019 PF Matthew Hurt -> Duke
Minnesota_Husker replied to AuroranHusker's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
In there defense they are losing to the blue bloods. When Duke shows up at your door, you listen. They did lose Davison to Wisconsin but kept Coffey at home. That being said, as a kid who grew up in MN it was a different feel than how it is in Nebraska. Not nearly the “love affair” with the local school in basketball or football.... now hockey...
