Kaylee Jensen of Genoa, NE played an excellent game in Austin tonight against Texas.  15 pts. 10 rebounds against two quality bigs employed by Texas.  Oklahoma St. lost 70-55 but this young lady held her own.  I believe she played at Lindsay Holy Family.

She did play at LHF and I watched her out play Chatrice White in district play offs two years ago to lead her team to state.  She is 6'4" and averaged 4.5 points and 4 rebounds as a freshman sub for OK. St. last year in a non starting role.  This year she has started all 22 games and is averaging 15.5 pts. and 8.5 rebounds per game while averaging 28 minutes playing time.  Her field goal percentage is 57%.  Her mom Mindi Jensen played at Wayne State.

The NU Women's BB program is in excellent hands with Coach Yori!  Are we going to compete with Maryland and OSU for the top athletes?  Probably not.  But NU has a great anchor to build around for the next 3 years.  Next class is bringing in the wings and guards necessary to push NU forward.  Injuries and defections have cost this team more than any other issue.  Connie is going to recruit girls to fit her program and anyone can see that ideally NU plays a fun, uptempo, fan friendly style.  Most of the other NU programs need to "catch up" to the success of Women's BB under Coach Yori!  She is a bargain.

Wow!  How wrong was I on these thoughts?

I hope Williams can bring in more quickness.

You mean like Tee Laudermill had?

Yep more like that from the PG down to the 3 spot.

Just seems like everyone is looking at one year.  We had a lot of quickness in a lot of Yori's 14 years.  Nat had enough.  Tee, Vonnie Turner just to name a couple.

Don't feel too bad.  I said Miles shouldn't recruit Terran Petteway.

HB I am not saying we haven't had any or don't have some.  You watch the teams that continually gave us trouble while Yori was coach it was quick teams.  Kentucky just out quicked us in KC a couple years ago.

Yep, getting athletic/quick players who also are  skilled is the challenge.  And the big time programs are more able to do it.  We are a good program, but aren't going to have as many of those players close to home.

This discussion about speed and athleticism is why I think Dan Lesoing is FOS when he says Nebraska could survive on home-grown talent.  Remember when Nikki Bober was about the best player in the state for us to recruit her senior year?

We can find good players from time to time, frequently even, but we will never find a stable of athletes sufficient to sustain a program from within our state borders.

HB I understand the better programs do it better and that we don't have as many near here.  That said, I still wish we could get a few more of them.  Will we?  Maybe, maybe not.
