That wouldn't be the worst thing that could happen.  The first month of College Basketball season is kind of a waste as it is.

Are you frickin' kidding me?  Not the worst thing that could happen?

As it is, I start getting hives around the last week of October just anticipating that first game.  Do you want me to suffer longer than that?   Because that's what would happen if they pushed the season to start later.  More hives for Norm.

You heartless, cruel bastard.

Basketball should be underway when it starts to get cold outside. Why not lengthen the schedule 2 weeks so teams don't have to cram in 2-3 games in many (most?) weeks of the season? It makes sense to just make the basketball season longer, not start later!

Underlying goal=Invite even more teams, larger brackets, longer tourney, more dollars to everyone from tv revenue, fans happier since more crappy teams get in, fewer coaches fired, win/win for everyone. Seemed to work for playoff baseball. Heck, they might even agree to pay the players for their time and not force them to study at all.

Off of that thought I have always thought that instead of conference tournaments that they should seed all the D1 teams and the top ones would get to host a four team pod. The winners would then be in the tournament. There would be better teams in the final tournament and the mini pods would have a bunch more people at them than some of the conference tournament have.

More money and it would be the best of the best. Still have some upsets but...

Every time something like this comes up (e.g. extending the NCAA football season), I always wonder if the people in power consider the impacts these decisions have on student athletes.

Well they aren't talking about extending the season as much as they are talking about moving it back.  I actually think moving it back might be better for student athletes as basketball is one of the few sports that causes kids to lose significant class time in both semesters.
