This is a first year teacher who is thinking it would be a neat writing center for her/his kids.  They are most likely some how slightly tied into the program, or just a big JayHawk fan.

It is a little weird but I agree if I was to teach a letter writing lesson I would have them write to veterans, your family, people in the hospital or even a letter to themselves 10 or 20 years in the future.

This is just a young teacher who went a bit overboard.

Or it is an old creepy teacher who loves them some Jayhawk basketball.

Fact of the matter is it illustrates the difference between them and us when it comes to recruit stalk-ier-ness-icity-ism and I think it would be to our benefit to be a little more creepy in this regard is all.  :)

He has family from the KC area so it's possible he has a relative who teaches 2nd grade who is exploiting his students as opposed to just some random Jayhawk fan exploiting his second grade class.

I bet you that is it.  Dimes you always find out the hard to find information.

To be fair, dimes seemed to be merely speculating that this 'could' have happened.

As far as the relatives nearby, there was a story that I posted on here from the KC Star about Lightfoot's family ties to the Kansas City area. Here it is: http://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/campus-corner/article35599914.html

"Lightfoot was born in Kansas City, spent five years in the area, and still has family in the metro..."
