After the first day of games the Big Ten ain't doing so well. Besides the Huskers coming out on the wrong end of things, Minnesota gave up an eleven point lead to DePaul and lost by seven. Northwestern blows a double digit lead to Arkansas and loses by 2. Only Iowa won yesterday of the 4 B1G teams playing and they struggled at that on their home court. Had they not connected on 9 three's it could have been an 0-4 day for the Big Ten.

Maryland, Rutgers and Ohio State play today we'll see if they fare any better than what their fellow league teams did yesterday. Maryland and OSU should advance but Rutgers might have a tough go at it.

While there are still two B1G teams in the NCAA tourney, I should make mention that Michigan is still alive and will play Missouri tomorrow in the 3rd round of the WNIT in Ann Arbor. Should they win that one they will advance to the quarterfinal round against Southern Miss.

But check out this line for Samantha Logic:  13 points, 10 rebounds, 14 assists.  Don't know how many of her assists were on 3s, but even if they were all 2s, she was directly responsible for 41 of the 66 points.  A trouble-double against Baylor is crazy good.

Maryland becomes the first Big Ten team since 2005 to make it to the Final 4. They beat Tennessee 58-48 in one of the most sloppiest games of the tournament tonight. For their efforts they get to meet UConn.

Hopefully Maryland has a better game against UConn.  They didn't seem to be hitting their shots and were making dumb turnovers.  Finally started to pull it together the latter part of the first half.

Although I will say, UConn didn't look as great as usual in their first half against Dayton.  It was like they were afraid to guard Dayton's 3 point shooters.  Dayton also had a lot of turnovers but were still ahead by 1 at half.  I told my daughter UConn would come out the second half and blow them out of the water.  Their defense was pretty intense the second half.

UConn towers over women's college basketball.  Even a very good Maryland team cannot compete.  Brianna Stewart, by far the best player in the country, returns next year.  It will be another coronation.  Mariah Jefferson, Morgan Tuck and the Samuelson girl coming in will give them an unbeatable team.

Why do the power conference schools schedule UConn?  If they Huskies only played in their conference they would rarely show up on TV.  That could impact their recruiting.

I don't have any idea how the other schools can catch up to UConn.

Don't think any other schools will be able to dethrone UConn until Geno Auriemma retires.

Things I have noticed with UConn:

1.  Everyone on the floor can score consistently.  Everyone.

2.  They play great D.

3.  When they get a lead, they never take their foot off the pedal.

4.  I never see them standing around looking confused or uncertain, even when the game is close (which usually only happens in the first half).

5.  No foul trouble.
