The one positive on the AM side is that at least 590 is carried over a wide area, unlike the other sports talk station in the Omaha metro, 1620. Their signal is not too great... And, man oh man, how long did KFAB have the broadcasts, 60 yrs?!?

What does the second half of this sentence mean?

The broadcasting partnership becomes effective on July 1st and the current IMG broadcast talent will transition to the Journal stations.

The IMG broadcast talent is Greg Sharpe, Kent Pavelka, Matt Davison, Lane Grindle, etc. etc. It's just saying that they will transition from KFAB to the Journal stations, ie 590 AM, 105.9 FM, and 92.3 FM.

Ok. So, they didn't really need the "and".... I couldn't figure that out. Of course, I'm just a small town hack. So.....

Your MY favorite small town hack, Tony!

Couple of things from this small town hack:

1)  590 said today they will carry all the baseball games.  KFAB usually only carried weekend series after the first month or so of the season.  1400 does a good job of carrying baseball and so does 1430 out of GI, but KLIN's signal is as weak as a doublejay post and KRGI's signal disappears at sundown as fast as 2 Big Macs placed in front of Joe McCray, which leads to point #2.

2)  Night basketball radio broadcasts might be a little harder to get in this neck of the woods.  Although, as Auroran mentioned, 590's signal is much stronger than 1620's, it still fades more at night here than does KFAB's.  It not really important for watching the game, but I like to listen to pregame.

All in all, the change doesn't suck that much.  And as far as KFAB's history with Husker football, I think they've carried them for all of the last 90 years with the exception of that 5 year period when 1620 got the rights back in the late 90's and early 2000's.

90 years, wow. And, here, I thought it was a mere 60. ;)

Cip, you're like the radio whisperer. I'm duly impressed.

FWIW, 590 has broadcast a lot of Iowa and Creighton athletics, so they should be well versed on programming needs. It ought to be good if they fulfill their ambitious coverage efforts for some of the lesser revenue Olympic (or former Olympic, as it were) sports such as volleyball & baseball (home & away) as every game is rarely slated for broadcast on TV in those sports typically.

Last night on the way out of Lincoln after they interviewed Miles on KFAB, I flipped over to 590 to see what the signal was like.   When we got just past the Seward exit on interstate 80 we started to have some trouble with the signal going in and out.  This was a problem the last time when they went to KKAR with the broadcasts.   It seems that the University and their broadcast partners only want to reach the people in Lincoln and Omaha and the hell with the rest of the state.

You gotta remember a couple things:

1)  The vast majority of the population in this state is Lincoln and Omaha.  And, I say that's a good thing.  It leaves all the land out here to us normal people.  :)   It really doesn't matter what stations in Lincoln and Omaha carry the Huskers, as long as the network in outstate Nebraska covers geographically the rest of the state.  The good thing about KFAB, was their 50,000 watt signal would cover the gaps that local stations in the Husker network couldn't.  590 and their 5,000 watt signal won't pick up that slack even though they're lower on the AM dial.

2)  The refs last night REALLY sucked.
