Not a surprise. Wouldn't be a surprise if there is one more announcement. Best wishes to Sadie; Connie's statement says it all. Hope she plays a ton at her new school and lights it up from outside.

Sorry to see her leave.  Great hustler and rebounder for her size.  I hope not too many more leave or we will be back to just 10 or 11 players and not much depth.

It looks like we recruited behind her quite well; that shouldn't be near the problem it was this year. Sadie was a great kid, but at 5'5 on her tiptoes and not fleet of foot, she was going to need more than hustle to play many minutes at this level. The other potential departure is even less suited for the high D1 level and it wouldn't be a bad thing if that was faced now instead of putting it off. Having said that, we may have a class balancing issue if no one red shirts from the 2013 recruiting class. The 2014 class shape up to be a decent sized class also. Would be surprised if the quality doesn't continue to be an upgrade over the thin 2011 class, and the dismal 2012 class.

Even though we have a great class coming in, I hope that we are looking long and hard at some transfers or JUCO players. Of course we could be a bit selective with them, but I would prefer to have a little more help WITH experience next year.

I agree that makes sense, but that sure hasn't been Connie's history

No, it hasn't. The transfer would have to have great character and be a good student as well. However, and this might be the wrong way to think of it, in the past would we have had transfers that would have really helped us out a lot? Pre 2010 I doubt very many if any high profile transfers gave us a look but now that we have some national recognition maybe higher profile transfers would look at us  and thus would be more enticing to pick up.

Yep, all good points.

Sad face for me. Really bummed.

How does anyone get kids willing to play off the bench if Nebraska kids won't?

Wishing the best of luck to Sadie. Brought a big smile to my face so many times this season. Big heart, big hustle.

To me, the writing was on the wall during the season.  We had 4 starting positions solidified, looked for a 5th and found her a few games in, and had 1 experienced player able to come off the bench and play meaningful minutes.  It wasn't so much that the 2 in-state kids were unwilling to come off the bench, it was because they weren't really allowed off the bench, and with the new girls coming in this fall, I imagine playing time next year would have been limited to late in games when it was already decided.

I've often thought if Murren had gone to UW-GB or followed the coach to Illinois, she might have played a lot more.  I can't remember who else recruited Tvrdy, but I thought at the beginning that she would struggle in the Big10.  I hope both of them find success with their next schools.

I recall watching Doc Sadler at some practices tell some end-of-bench-type players who continued to make mistakes (not closing out shooters, not going over top of screens, etc.) "I want to play you, but you won't let me play you!"

Has Murren red shirted ? And if she hasn't do you think she would transfer to Creighton ? The reason I ask is that I see she is following the Bluejays on tweeter.

She has not red-shirted. She could sit out a year and then still have 2 years to play if she transferred to a D1 school. Still, I would be surprised if she doesn't transfer to a D2 or lower level, where she would be immediately eligible. I don't think her playing time would increase appreciably at Creighton.

I guess we will know what she is going to do one of these days then.
