Needs to warm up so they can get outside and play. It isn't fun or good to play indoors or in weather where you can see your breath.

The team has had plenty of practices outside. That's not why they look like they are going thru the motions in some of these games. They are 24 games into the season...we are a mediocre baseball team because they will do not do the little things well. As I noted in the past in which I was told that I was wrong...it's the same thing that has been happening for three years now. I don't believe it's a talent issue...not sure how much of it is coaching. Either way, this staff hasn't got it done so far and year 3 is looking like more of the same. There haven't been very many major leaguers who had good look coaching college ball....still too early to say Erstad will be a failure of a hire but the early results don't look very good right now. It's one thing to lose but when you have multiple games where your team looks disinterested then something is wrong. Last night we looked like we didn't want to be there.
Thye have been outside but in 30 degree temps. Hard to get good when you have three layers of clothes on to stay warm, and the ground is as hard as playing in the street. I thought we played better this year in the warmer weather. I would not have wanted to be at KSU last night either. We might be just an average team, but I think we will get better.
to add to this it was 28 degrees with a wind chill of 18 in Iowa City on Sunday I'm sure Huskerbaseball would have been able to play his best in those conditions. Give it a rest already
So Iowa didn't play in the same conditions? Is that what you are arguing? Or gasp....could it be this team is mentally weak which is why they are wildly inconsistent? Think before you post. The weather is just another bogus excuse for an under achieving program right now.

Well, have you considered the chance that things may not be as bleak as you portray them?

We get it by now: You don't like Erstad and think he was a bad hire. You think 2 1/2 seasons post-Anderson is enough to know, and you have no problem personally going after the coaches at every turn. You have every right to have those opinions. And, you may be right. But you're getting personal about it, and you've flogged the horse within an inch of its life if it isn't dead already. It's a message board of Husker fans. It's only natural that you get a little push back to a relentless, unabridged negative attack on "our" team and coaches.

I've expressed concern about some of the same things you notice with the team. There are some ominous signs with fundamentals and mental errors. But I'm not ready to conclude that we have bad coaches and things won't improve. Even if I'm wrong with a more balanced perspective than you have, I'm still going to go to the home games, and watch and listen to the away games, to enjoy them and look for improvement. And I will try to not let your decidedly negative viewpoint take the fun out of the baseball board. The latter may be easier said than done.

If I had to predict, for this year, I'm very confident we will play better baseball, reduce physical and mental errors, and be more consistent with our offensive approach. I do think we'll struggle on the mound from a depth standpoint all year. I think the coaches know we have issues there. They wouldn't be giving a true freshman like Hohensee so many chances, and bringing a brand new guy (Austin Christensen) to the mound for the first time this late in the season, if they didn't have concerns about the number of guys they have who can do the job. Ultimately we'll be pretty good in conference. Hopefully enough to make a regional, but if not, I'm not going to declare that 3 years is a magical time frame in which we have to declare the Erstad hire a failure. I'm still glad he's our guy.

I wouldn't call Erstad a bad hire just yet. I do think this staff has done a mediocre job thus far. Too early to think it can't work out but I do think we could have found better options than a coach who had never managed a team. This is a post on Husker Baseball...if we were playing well id be saying the reverse. But we aren't...this team has many problems right now and just like any message board if people don't like to discuss it they can skip over posts. I just find it funny as weeks ago I was "jumping to conclusions" even though anyone who has watched this team under this regime have been seeing the same crap for three years now. I certainly do expect them to start playin better...and win quite a few games against bad Big Ten teams but at that point it will probably be too late unless we can find a way to win in Omaha.

The weather is just another bogus excuse for an under achieving program right now. Nobody expects this team to win every single game...but there have been times were they have looked disinterested on the field. That couples with the little league mistakes this team continues to make into year 3 is why you are starting to see many question this coaching staff. The honeymoon is over. Time for the team and staff to wake up.

I was just saying we seem to play better when the weather is warm. Not saying others don't have to fight the cold, just that Imthink we will play better as it warms up. Might not will know around the first of June I guess. We might be mentally fragile or Coach might not be the right fit. Heck we might even really just be this bad. But have seen enough to hope things get better. Plus this isn' like MLB where we can get some body new in to try to right the ship. We will know at the end, try to enjoy the ride and hope we warm up,with the weather.

I hope you're correct and Huskers find a way to win the Big Ten. I don't think we are bad....just under achieving but perhaps I am looking thru my Rose colored glasses when looking at the talent on the roster. Anyways, onward an upward(hopefully)....Huskers have a big series this weekend. Didn't think I would be saying that before the season as UNLV has rarely been a good team. But they appear to have a very good pitching staff. Winning 2 out of 3 would be a nice weekend and should help the RPI.

Huskers lose first two games of the series...3 errors in today's game. Mediocre baseball continues...doesn't get any easier with two games against Arkansas this week.

Well, one thing we can count on is you'll be there to bitch about the Huskers every step of the way.

And we can count on you replying back every single time!  Let me guess...we should only post in this thread when wins are piling up?  Nebraska could have won the last two games and I would have posted about it.  But they didn't...they lost the first two games of the series AND made 3 errors yesterday.  Facts are facts.  We should start winning a few more games now that we are getting into Big Ten play but....at this point in time it appears to be too little too late.  The team will need to make a huge turnaround and go on a tear or its win the Big 10 Tourny or bust.

Question is HB if Erstad is fired would he like the next coach ?

Erstad is not getting fired.  Nor did I say I wanted him fired.....even though he proven to be nothing but mediocre thus far the guy deserves atleast 3 more years.  Remember...Osborne did hire a coach with zero experience so I'm sure he is still finding his way also.  This team has the talent to still turn it around this year but it's starting to look bleak the farther and farther we get into the season.  And Id argue it's possible next year looks like another "rebuilding" year if something doesnt click as we may lose quite a bit of the pitching staff.

Question is Bugeaters...if Erstad is fired and the new coach was not meeting expecations...would you make excuses for him ?

Oh and BTW...I LOVED Coach Van Horn...and Coach Childress.  Not only did they win they brought a brand of baseball to Lincoln that was exciting.  This staff thus far? Not so much.  Silva's pitch to contact mantra has turned into the exact opposite of what he preachces....Erstad and Bolt are FAR more conservative than I was hoping for.  Under Erstad the way he spoke and acted I expected a throwback agressive team on every level.  Unfortunatly, I was wrong...

Not saying one should post only positive things and when wins are piling up.  If you actually read the substance of my posts since the season started you would understand I don't think that.  But I won't just go with the relentless negativity that you have.    Beating the same dead horse until we all say "Wow, that Baseball 13 guy is really smart and is right! "  You know, most of us get it.  At this point in time, we're mediocre.  We're digging a hole such that it will be difficult to make the NCAA tournament.   We  get that without you saying "Bad news Erstads".  Facts may be facts as to where we are at this point in time, but it gets to opinion as to the how, why, and what it means for the future.  You're certainly entitled to yours.

So, you're free to post the same thing after every loss, whatever floats your boat.  And the rest of us can respond to your repetition and negativity, if we feel like it.

I didn't say you said Esrtad is getting fired. What I was saying is that you won't STFU until he is fired and a new coach is in place and then you will start with the negativity all over again. Just my two cents worth and that's not much kinda like yours not worth much.

Fair enough.  I just find it funny weeks ago I was "jumping to conclusions" when just about anyone who watches this team closely could see we are still stuck in the mud in regards to the lack of fundamentals this program has been showing for the majority of the past 5 years.  Or that some got upset because I said there has not been much progression in the past three years...I'm all ears, where is the progression in this program?

Nope, I have nothing against Erstad outside of the fact that he has done a mediocre job thus far.  I will continue to hope that he can get the program turned around and get it on the right path...and if he doesnt and he gets canned I hope our current or next AD doesn't settle on a coach without actively searching for the best candidate.  If that next coach proves he can lead the program then I'm all in...if the next coach is producing mediocre results then I'll call it like I see it.  I'll leave the excuse making up to you.

Huskers win last game of the series 5-3. Bummer with the longest outing of his career. He wasn't great early on but got better as the game went on. Off to Arkansas for a tough mid week matchup. Getting 1 would be nice before Buckeyes roll into town.

Finally got some good pitching from Bummer & Roeder to go w/ some clutch hitting from Christian Cox & Ty Kildow.

Arky will be tough, as usual, but it would be a great resume builder to come out of there w/ a W or two. ;)

Cox looked good yesterday...starting to turn into a log jam in the outfield which is a good problem to have.  We need to get Pritchard rolling again.  He's a big part of this lineup.

Nice, and somewhat fortunate win last night!  Beating the Buckeyes is always nice.  Will be at today's game hoping for another.

Good article on Erstad and the Huskers by Aaron Fitt of Baseball America, in Dispatches From The Heartland.  Gives an optimistic perspective, especially with recruiting progress.  I would link if I knew how; perhaps someone can help out.

Got to the bull pen, in college that is where teams are the weakest.

Another fun day and a win.

Husker Power.

And we haven't used our bullpen at all getting back to back complete games.

Two huge comeback wins. Pritchard with two hits that I would call season saving. Starting pitching had been great. Would be nice to get a sweep and would more or less makeup for the series loss to Iowa.

Awesome game to be at. Pretty exciting game in the final few innings

I wasn't able to attend but watched it on tv. The Ohio St pitcher was tough but the first 7 innings our approach at the plate was pretty poor. But for all the bad things I've said for the start of the season this team now has 3 come from behind wins when most teams would be dead in the water. Shows some fight and heart. Still a long ways to go but we have a chance to string quite a few wins together with our schedule he next few weeks.

It was also kind of what coach said. He was trying not to say something when they talked to him between innings. Then the top half right after all his trying to not blow, we give up the two runs on the errors on the short stop.

Good come back in the long run. Hopefully we can get a lead tommorrow and play from the front.
