What's going on with these guys??

The same thing that's been going on for 3 years now....zero progression under this staff. Not impressed with Erstad and his thus far. Can't blame Anderson this year. It's extremely early but we are going to have to play much better to sniff a regional.

I'm disappointed with the start to the season, but to say there has been zero progression is a gross exaggeration.

I would agree HB, with MA as coach they would have finished toward the bottom of the league last year. Now you want to talk about no progression.

Not so sure about that....we still struggle with small ball yet Erstad and Bolt feel the need to force it down the players throats. We are still making bone headed plays on the base paths. We are still issuing walks at an alarming clip...yet Silva and Erstads mantra is pitch to contact. And the one thing we did extremely well next year hasn't been great this year(fielding percentage)....same problems we had in year 1 and year 2. We have enough talent to get a regional bid this year. If we fail to do so then the staff and players under achieved. Year 3....it's time for Erstad to show he knows what he is doing.

Plenty of teams have had slow starts.  Let the season progress some before jumping to conclusions.

In the Big 10, you can't afford too many bumps in the road.  While a 5-5 start is not a killer....we need to start racking up wins over the next few weeks or we will be looking at having to win the Big Ten tournament to get a regional bid.  I think everyone can agree it will be a failure of a year if we fail to make the postseason.

Bummer gets knocked out of the rotation.....this weekend Huskers will go Kubat, Deleon, Sinclair.  Looking for a nice sweep to start out the home stand.

For someone with a baseball name you sure jump to conclusions way too early for a sport that records arent the end all be all 10 games into a season.  Remember this team was one win away from a 2 seed in a regional last year and started 0-7.

As I noted in my previous post, the issues that have plauged us the past few years are still present thru the first 10 games. Bad base running, walks galore, inability to get bunts down. It's not all about the record. But, that team that started out 0-7 last year had the luxury of a top notch schedule to fall back on in the numbers game. This team will not...playing in the Big Ten they do not have much room for error. Do you see 17 top 50 RPI games on our schedule? I don't. Plain and simple, we need to play well at home the next few weeks or we will be scratching and clawing to get into the at large discussion.

Also, I'm failing to see where I jumped to conclusions. I responded to a poster who asked "what's wrong with these guys"....and I told him exactly what's wrong. Then I stated we if we fail to make a regional this year it will be a dissapointment. For me, that's a fact...for some others maybe not? It's far too early to say they will not get a regional bid but it would be nice to not have to rely on winning the conference tourney to do so. We have a chance to reel off some wins during this home stand, they need to take advantage of it.

We had some of the recurring issues (this time a brutal throwing error by DeLeon) we've had, but Taylor Fish's game winning RBI was just an incredible sports story.   Just a great effort by that young man in defying the odds.

Bummer on the mound today...time to get him back on track.  If Bummer can return to form...between him and Sinclair fighting it out for starter #4 you have to like our chances most mid-week games.  Looking forward to the series this weekend...hoping the home team will prevail.  Irvine's pitching has been nails thus far this year.

Huskers lose to UNC 9-2....that's not North Carolina...thats Northern Colorado.  One of the worst D-1 teams in NCAA baseball. Bad bad loss...that one could prove to hurt down the road if this team is in the At-Large discussion.  Not a lot of room for error with the schedule we are playing.....a series win this weekend is a must.

Yes, this one was a bad one.  I attended.   I can't recall a worse performance by a Husker team since I started regularly attending games 15 years ago.  I am concerned about the pitching staff beyond the first 3 starters and Roeder.  Doesn't seem like anyone can throw strikes.

Of course, I was ready to jump off the cliff early last year last year also.  We had tremendous in-season improvement.  Hopefully that will happen again this year.  It needs to if we are to be any good.

I agree in regards to pitching. Middle relief appears highly suspect. The regression of Bummer had been a major dissapointment thus far. We need to get him back on track. Silva as a coach this far has been lackluster. I like his recruiting ability but this is year 3 of control issues. This team is going to have to step up their game in a major way starting now or we may find it tough to be in the at large discussion. Like I said previously...last year we had a top SOS to fall back on. Not so much this year.

. Huskers lose again. Is it still to early to say this team may need to win the BIG ten tourny to get in? Going to take a nice effort tomorrow to get a series win.

Huskers get two big wins today. Played much better all around. Big series win, much needed for at large discussions at the end of the year.

I guess the the Huskers haven't degressed as bad as some think huh. UCI having a 1.60 ERA and the Huskers did that to the Eaters.

Took in the doubleheader today.  Excellent therapy for the unfortunate end to the basketball game yesterday.

We were dialed in today.  You could feel it in the stadium.  Team came out hard, with aggressive at backs.  A sweep without our best hitter in the lineup. Amazing what happens when we limit the walks.

It's not really that they have "degressed" it's that they haven't progressed.  As I said numerous other times...the same problems you saw with this team under Anderson and Erstad years 1-2 are still present this year.  That was two much needed and good wins...but tho MO of this program the past few years is that we are very inconsistent so now we need to keep playing like we did vs Irvine on Saturday.  This team has proven it has the talent to beat top teams across the country but they also have brain farts where they fail to show up.  Need to play well vs Creighton and no let down against Iowa or else the wins vs Irvine do not mean all that much.  We don't have a lot of room for error.

Went to the Creighton game last night.  It was great fun winning at the end, especially after things looked so bleak (down 4-3, 2 outs, nobody on).

Having said that, we played poor baseball.  I am an Erstad fan, and I love listening to him talk baseball.  I have had a lot of patience with getting our program turned back around.  I am still optimistic.   But, Baseball 13's concerns expressed on here are not out of line.  It was disappointing to again see last night's  breakdowns in fundamentals:  Couldn't execute a sacrifice bunt, getting picked off of first on a hit and run, throwing to the wrong base from the outfield, walking a .115 hitter to lead off an inning.  Still lots of walks, and more shaky middle inning relief.

On another note:   The Creighton dugout is over the top ridiculous.  They do stuff you wouldn't see from a little league team.  I would be embarrassed to be affiliated with that University the way they carry on.  They erupt over every ball-strike call, as if they just won a conference title.  Lots of absurd yelling and simple making of noise.  It's one thing to be enthusiastic, but this was ridiculous.   Been going to 15+ games a year for 15 years and I've never seen or heard anything like it.

Huskers lose series to Iowa. This is not a very good team right now. Erstad has been a dissapointment. I wouldn't call the season young anymore...oh and Anderson is long gone. The piss poor play is no longer on him and squarely on Erstads shoulders now. They still have a chance to rectify it this year but at this point id say an at large bid is bleak at best.

While true that this team isn't a very good team right now, your posts clearly just show an anti-Erstad agenda.  No one is blaming Anderson at this point for this team.   I guess it's that simple in your world to put it 100% on coaching and make a bunch of conclusions at a moment in time.  Not quite as simple as the team is playing bad so Erstad sucks.

As Miles was trying to do until late January, Ersty is struggling to get a young, fairly talented team to buy into the approach.  This team lacks leadership among the players.  It's pretty obvious at the games.  As Gallegos wasn't a senior leader, neither is Pritchard.  It will need to come from someone else. Hopefully we'll get it turned around.    It is correct that with each passing week we don't, an at large bid is going to be difficult.   We'll find out if the players own it after a disappointing start to the season.   As we found out in basketball, sometimes that is what it takes.
