I've got a 2 year old daughter that I am considering bringing to some games this year. I am thinking about using the unk exhibition as a test run to see how it goes for future games. If all goes well, it will probably help me get to more games without my wife feeling ditched with our 2 kids (second one is 5 months).

Does anyone have experience bringing kids of this age? Any advice?

I'm a bit concerned about the long walk to the arena and hope the 300 level seats aren't too high for her.

Gbr!

Make sure you put some NyQuil and a bottle of whiskey in the diaper bag.  1/4 teaspoon of NyQuil should mellow out the kid for the game.  You can then take your child to the changing station whenever you need a NyQuil/whiskey chaser.  Damn, man, what a life you lead.....   :)

I assume that you have tickets for the kids, because each body entering the arena, needs one.

Let them have fun.  If they don't, they will lose the love of the game, if you make it a positive experience, you will have a husker basketball fan for life.  Pace the food and drinks for them, they will come to expect it every game, that can get a bit expensive.  Most fans are tolerent, but not all are...good luck with that.

Mine sit and pay attention until the popcorn runs out. Then they are in the aisle, swinging from those black railings they had at Devaney, gathering all the bacteria they can. Attention spans are short.

Winning: As one who has taken children from a newborn son to a teenage grandson to games over the years, I will advise you not to take her to any game you might be interested in watching yourself. Given the expense and hassle of the experience at the new arena, i would advise getting a sitter until she is 5 or 6. Otherwise, don't let her nap and hope she goes to sleep after the tipoff.

Too young in my experience. Otherwise, work out an agreement with the missus where you pay her back for gamedays supporting something she'd like to do. babysitting trades are great things.

The old lady in the seat next to you would probably much rather play with your kid than watch some stupid basketball game her husband dragged her to. Introduce her to your child as "Gram" and they can play pat-a-cake while you and the husband take in the game. Next thing you know, the old couple will be standby babysitters anytime you and your wife want to ditch the kids for some "us" time.

I've brought my kids to the games they are now 5 and 3.  My wife comes too so that helps.

They love basketball but they really love little red; the band; the cheerleaders and stuff going on the big screen.

Popcorn is good.  I don't bring them to the late games so it won't get too past their bedtime.

Worst things are trips to the restrooms.  And yes they always go at the most worst times.  Also I can't yell so much as they don't like it when daddy is yelling.

Of course this will be the first time in a sold out new arena so it may be a different experience.  The best games to take the kids were usually the non-conference games with the Bob half full at best so there was plenty of room.

I am ashamed of the way I have behaved at a couple of Nebraska Basketball games in front of one of my kids.  I absolutely lost it going off on the refs at the end of the Maryland Baltimore County game in '08.  But, as a result, they are aware their father is a passionate guy.  So, that's good.  I guess.

My daughter and I religiously attended Husker games together at the Bob for about 4 years, starting when she was around 7.  Was a great experience for her, and hooked her on the game, even though she watched some pretty bad ball during that time.  It was neat to watch her interests shift from the concession stand to the court as she got older.

If she did, she wasn't alone.
