Supposition time.

We have a big committed to one of only two known spots in the 2014 recruiting class.  6'10" kid of whom it's been said that he's a big who actually likes playing like a big.

And Miles has said he's looking for another big for the second (and only other known) spot.

Not looking at guards.  Much less point guards.  Wants bigs.

Can we infer from that information that Webster's readiness for prime time is as good as the coaches would have hoped?

Regarding Tai Webster's readiness for prime time, the following items appear to be significant:  (I) Tai arrived in Lincoln on or about July 13, 2013, and (ii) on July 31, 2013, at 6:35 p.m. ESPN.com reported that Tim Miles said earlier that day about Tai, "He's going to be on the floor with the ball in his hands," and "He's a good player. We're thrilled he qualified, and we need more Tai Websters."

Such words from the Head Coach sound like a major seal of approval based on more than two weeks of in-person performance and evaluation.

Here's the answer to my trivia question:

Dee Proby, Garrett Stutz and Colton Iverson were all big men recruits who came here on official visits going into Doc's second season at the helm.  At the time, Chris Balham was the only scholarship underclassman on the roster taller than 6'6".  The starting job at either big position for the following year was absolutely wide open.  And we didn't get a commit from any of them.  Not a single one of them.

And none of them really had any better list of offers than the two guys coming in this weekend.  Which just happens to be the recruiting cycle going into Tim Miles' second season at Nebraska.

To sit here knowing we have a commit from a quality big already and 3 more scheduled to visit in the next two weekends, including a Rivals top 50 kid, it just blows my mind.

Remember Wacker is taking a 4-day visit here this weekend....coming in today until Sunday. So there must be quite a bit of mutual interest there yet.

The question is whether we would take all 3 of Hammond, Wacker, and Robinson.

Doc was a pretty bad recruiter, and he couldn't coach an offense. pretty bad combo.

I believe it was someone on here who wrote that Mike Gesell's parents said Doc told them that Nebraska wasn't dedicated to the basketball program (or something along those lines), and that was part of the reason he didn't come here.

If that was the same poster who claimed he was listening in on Doc's phone calls with Elliott Eliason and spending time in the Gesell's basement, well ... I wouldn't believe a thing he said.

Doc's strong suit was defense.  I disagree with those who say who couldn't coach offense.  His problem was that he didn't recruit guys who could shoot the damn ball.  And that goes back to his failings as a recruiter.  I question, first of all, his eye for talent when he brings in a kid like Alex Chapman but never offers a kid like Sheldon Jeter.  And I don't honestly know whether his assistants were strong recruiters.  He certainly didn't use them for much in the way of coaching and I don't know that they helped a lot with recruits, either.

I agree that Doc had his flaws and one or two of them ended up being fatal to his NU coaching career, primarily the recruiting.  But I will continue to maintain that he was a good Xs and Os coach.  He just didn't help himself out with the players he was putting on the floor.

Well said.

Doc also did not have the $$$ to spend on assistance or the facilities to recruit to. Not saying he could/would be doing the job Tim Miles is - I highly doubt he would.

What do Dee Proby, Garrett Stutz and Colton Iverson all have in common, by the way?

All three of them have never been in my kitchen.

No love for the 360 slam dunk I just threw down with this Cheers quote?

doc was a lot of things. but not a quitter, and he would never say that university is not commited to an athlete. Back to Tim Miles, ill admitt i had my doubts but what he has come in here and down is nothing short of amazing..i feell a big time commit coming maybe not this year, bu next year we crack the top 50

I usually agree with Norm, but not on Doc's X and O coaching ability.  Wasn't quite as bad an offensive coach as many believe, I will give him that.  But vastly overrated as a defensive coach.  His help just to help stuff led to so many wide open completely uncontested threes.  Horrible flaw in his scheme.

Agree royalfan.  The defensive stats were also misleading with us running the shot clock down to 0-3 seconds on nearly every possession that shorten the game and allowed fewer looks for the other team.

Not to beat a dead horse, as I supported and liked Doc, but his substitution patterns were mind bogglingly bad as well if that is considered to be X's and O's.  He had very little logic involved with them.  Another thing Miles excels at and has a tremendous feel for.

Y'know, I saw it and I meant to respond and give you some props but just got sidetracked.

Well played, sir.  Well played.  :)
