Norm Peterson Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 FYI, BigTexHusker posted this here last year around this time or a little later. We've been in on him for quite a while now. Huge body, but soft. Has made a lot of strides in past season and a half. Didn't even play varsity his freshman year, but has developed into a rare big with soft hands, great balance, and good feet. He's a project at this point (as most bigs are), and he plays for a low-profile outfit in the summers, which bodes well for us. He's still carrying a ton of "baby fat" and is soft, but that seems to be changing some. I know for a fact he's giving the Huskers serious consideration and would fit well in B1G. This is the comment I was thinking of when I said ... I figured there was more going on in recruiting than met the eye. I noticed a few weeks back that he'd climbed up to around #50 in the Rivals rankings. Assumed we were out of the running at that point. But someone had posted a year ago that we were legitimately interested in him. This would be HUGE. Literally and figuratively. Quote
Cookie Belcher Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 Love this guy. Now this is a guy I will say we have a legitimate chance with even though the big boys are after him. We are getting a visit which indicates interest in us on his end. Plus, you have to think he will like what he sees on the visit. Very excited about this. Would be a huge get. Bolden, on the other hand, has still never indicated any interest in Nebraska so I think people are getting a little excited too soon with him. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 I don't know how long ago it was, probably 6 months or so, when I posted a thread about "Signs of the Apocalypse" or something of that nature. The thread was about indications that our fortunes were turning in basketball and the balls were going to start bouncing our way for once. I can't remember exactly what I said would indicate a change, but it probably had to do with getting certain players to commit and certain others to be eligible. Well, we got Tai Webster eligible. We didn't get the Sai Tummala commit I was hoping for. But getting our first Rivals 150 verbal followed closely by an official visit from the #52 ranked player in the nation is a strong indication that we're getting some good karma. Now, if we have a verbal from Elbert next week, I'd almost be willing to say the curse of Roburt Sallie has been lifted. Quote

On the other hand, who can argue with my observations about good looking volleyball players at Nebraska through the years? Sick? I ask you: My semi-obsession with hot-looking Husker volleyball players? Or Cip's semi-obsession with Christian Standhardinger's recreational activities? Now we await the Standhardinger obsessed Cip weighing in, although it's apparent that guy has the misfortune of having a day job. HuskerCager Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 Don't assume Calipari is going to stop recruiting Mudiay just because he gave a verbal to SMU. There's plenty of time for Mudiay to get buyer's remorse over the whole SMU thing and change to Kentucky. Not saying that he will decommit from SMU, but I wouldn't expect that the final sentence has yet been written on Mudiay's recruitment. Wasn't Louisville upset with Miles for attending one of Agau's games after he committed to Louisville? Given that, I'm just 100% sure Pitino would never attend one of Mudlay's games now that he's committed to the Mustangs, much less try to recruit him. Quote
ajb5856 Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 We may land Elbert and we may not. The fact that he is using one of his 5 official visits on us is huge in itself. I'm not holding my breath but I think it bodes very well for us that we had this alleged serious consideration from Elbert a year ago, well before Kenya Hunter came along. Add the fact that we now have Kenya working on our side and you have to believe that Elbert is seriously considering us. Again, he may not commit here but it's a great start. Quote
bobcat402 Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 some poster previously posted they didnt want him because he might have a low motor and poor work ethic. SMH first off if a 7'1 330lb center wants to come here you can instil a work ethic in him. plus we have hunter who got a lump of clay in Roy Hibbert and developed him into a All Big East Center...i think he can do something for this young man....shutters Hammon/Robinson duo.....drooling now if TIMMY MILES can get this GATA i agree with this real big men you get Success and Failure..for every Shaquille O'neal there is a Stanley Roberts..But in Andre’s case as much as with Christopher Nineneman (murdered his name) injuries really killed whatever development they may of had.. i know André was down to around 3 bills than he had his appendix injury in juco.,,than by the time he recovered he gained about fitty lbs and messed up his knee, same with CN hopefully if can pull of this small miracle Elbert will come in development his Juvenile Body into his "Man" body as the talking heads say...Im not sure how old he is but with these tall guys it takes them awhile to get coordinated and get rid of all that bad weight....that my hope at least..at least we already have Hammond, the meat and potatoes with side salad...this kid would be the 100,000 dollar shopping spree in the candy store Counterpoint: Andre Almeida. I'm in no way implying that he's anything like Almeida but stating that you could apply your reasoning 4 years ago when bringing in Andre. However, even if this guy is a stiff and doesn't pan out he'd still be a major asset and be an important role player. The floor is pretty high on this guy which is one reason he's ranked so high. i agree with this real big men you get Success and Failure..for every Shaquille O'neal there is a Stanley Roberts..but in Andre case as much as with Chriopher Nieneman (murdered his name) injuries really killed whatever development they may of had.. i know andre was down to around 3 bills than he had his appendix injury in juco.,,than by the time he recovered he gained about fitty lbs and messed up his knee, same with CN hopefully if can pull of this small miracle Elbert will come in development his Juvenile Body into his "Man" body as the talking heads say...Im not sure how old he his but with these tall guys it takes them awhile to get coordinated and get rid of all that bad weight....thats my hope at least..at least we already have Hammond, the meat and potatos with side salad...this kid would be the 100,000 dollar shopping spree in the candy store Quote
FredsSlacks Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 just for comparison, Hibbert was 7'1 250 in high school. Elbert will have to put in a lot of work to be a 30 min a night player. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 I wish you guys could have seen Christopher Niemann before he got hurt. The kid could move. Solid ups and a good physique. He needed some development but he had the athleticism part down. Not only did the knees set him back on development but he was never again able to move the way he did in practices before he got hurt. Rachoo Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 Don't mean to be a downer - but just copied this post from Verbal Commits posted 8/29 Recent Activity 8/29/2013 - 2014 C Elbert Robinson (7-0, 320, 4★) | Overall Rank: 54 | Position Rank: 5 has trimmed his list, and removed Nebraska from consideration. - Per Scout Quote

Seems strange that he would schedule an official visit here and then trim us off his list. Just to waste an official I guess? Is this a courtesy visit? Even if it is, the fact remains that he is coming to campus. Anything can happen. Quote
colhusker Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 Is verbalcommits.com a scout site? Quote
ajb5856 Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 Is verbalcommits.com a scout site? No. But when they put up recruiting tidbits they claim a source such as Scout, Rivals, ESPN, etc. Quote
colhusker Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 Thanks ajb, I didn't think it was and I can not find anything on the Scout page about this. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 According to the Scout website I just looked at, it says Elbert Robinson has Nebraska down as "no interest." http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=8&c=1&nid=6107734 Quote
Norm Peterson Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 Something's odd. He wouldn't have just scheduled an official visit if he had no interest. In less than 24 hours, he goes from visiting to no interest? One of these is unreliable. Not sure which but we'll find out soon enough. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 Rivals lists him as having a 9/6/13 visit date. http://sports.yahoo.com/basketballrecruiting/basketball/recruiting/player-Elbert-Robinson-132565;_ylt=AixejlUSIbVnCezezpjnIjDVO5B4 Quote
colhusker Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 Norm much like the Rivals boards the stuff on the Scout board can get dated. Think Rivals does a better job with basketball. Quote
