NBA Draft: When Will Nebraska Have a Draftee? - BT Powerhouse

It's been quite a long time since Nebraska has produced an NBA draft pick. The most recent occurred in 1998, when Tyronn Lue was drafted #23 overall by the Denver Nuggets in 1998. That's a long dry spell, and is one of the longest in the conference. Then again, that shouldn't surprise you. No one can call Nebraska a basketball powerhouse with a straight face. Yes, the arrow is pointing up, but historically speaking, things don't look great for Nebraska and the NBA Draft.

I'm gonna guess the author hasn't watched us play very much. Although Terran and Shavon can score in similar ways, there games are different. And to say that Petteway isn't overly athletic is somewhat laughable.

On the Hardwood: Nebraska Cornhuskers (NEBRASKETBALL) - Maize 'N Brew

NEBRASKETBALL.

Nobody really saw it coming, but Tim Miles and Co. blazed a trail into the top four of a strong Big Ten en route to a tournament appearance, a major turn of events for a Nebraska program that had been struggling in a big way. Not unlike Michigan pre-Beilein, Nebraska basketball was an afterthought with respect to its counterpart on the football field.

Setting Michigan aside, Wisconsin was the most fun to watch from an execution standpoint; after all, they were basically Michigan with less pure dribble drive ability. Nebraska, on the other hand, was raw, reckless fun. You know how, as a kid, you took a Fruit Roll-Up and, taking all the rules of life as a casual suggestion, roll that sugary treat into a ball and eat it like it was a hush puppy? That was Nebraska basketball. Wild and free and fun.

After every sugar rush there is a crash, and so ended the 2013-14 season for Tim Miles and Co. Even so, it was fun while it lasted. Michigan basketball peels out the little imprinted designs on the aforementioned Fruit Roll-Up, carefully and meticulously. There's a place and a time for that, and maybe that is better in the long run; you enjoy it, savor it, don't overindulge.

But sometimes you just have to give the guy with the hot hand the rock and let the arena crank up to 11 and play ball.

One of my best friends is a die hard fan of all things Michigan. I love that we get to play them at least once a year in basketball even if we don't play them every year in football. Makes for great trash talking! :D  We came so close to beating them last year.

Here is a tweet from Matt Norlander (a writer at CBSSports.com) that Tim Miles retweeted:

@MattNorlander: .@CoachMiles having a hell of a July. McCartney just played Nebraska. Now he's recruiting studs while rocking ruby red Prada kicks. Legend.

Lee Barfknecht has an interesting article this morning on Husker basketball titled, "Husker coach Miles still thinking big during recruiting cycle." Here is a blurb:

Husker coach Tim Miles, in his office Monday for a one-day pit stop, still had a smile while sifting through his travel receipts.

“I’m excited,” he said. “Our recruiting depth chart is pretty solid. At the same time, we need ‘bigs.’ Every time you turn around, it’s another high-major school that you are recruiting against if you want someone you think can make an impact."
