Huskerpapa Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 Looks like we have our eyes on this Philadelphia kid. I am at work so I cannot post the YouTube video that is available. http://rivals.yahoo.com/basketballrecruiting/basketball/recruiting/player-Ja'Quan-Newton-129978 http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/recruiting/blog/eye-on-college-basketball-recruiting/19486205/jaquan-newton-continues-legacy-of-philly-point-guards Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 yeah I saw him this past winter. I will see if i can find the report I had on him. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 He seems to be a Philly kid through and through doesn't he? If you are comparing him to those others didn't they stay close to home? Quote
Cookie Belcher Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 He seems to be a Philly kid through and through doesn't he? If you are comparing him to those others didn't they stay close to home? In West Philadelphia, born and raised. On the playground is where he spent most of his days. Quote

Huskerpapa Posted August 7, 2013 Author Report Posted August 7, 2013 ...and he picks Miami. http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=2&c=1313757&ssf=1&RequestedURL=http%3a%2f%2fscouthoops.scout.com%2f2%2f1313757.html Quote
Searching 4 Chester Surles Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 As soon as I first saw this kid I knew he'd be a nearly impossible get. I continued to follow him though, and it seemed like Minnesota was really strong in his recruitment the last few months. Sucks to be them. Miami is getting a player. A tough Philly kid that can get BUCKETS. Quote
colhusker Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 Funny how the Nebraska fan base is, and yes I know it has to do with past success. If this kid was a stud football player the attitude would be why are the coaches not getting kids like this. In basketball we get comments like above, "As soon as I first saw this kid I knew he'd be a nearly impossible get" (and no this is not a slam of the poster) and like in another recruits thread stating that once certain schools got involved our coaches backed off. Here is hoping in the next couple years we expect to get kids like this! Quote

Even being a blue blood in football, we don't exactly have all-the-confidence-in-the-world in that sport's recruiting either. Bo takes a ton of criticism for his recruiting. As did Frank. We lose recruits in football all the time and fans say "Of course we did." I think this is more a product of humble Nebraskans. The reality is there's not a ton to do in Lincoln (it's not the bustling city, the weather sucks quite often, it can be "behind the times", etc). So it's tough to envision someone with other (better?) options choose UNL. But back to Newton. I don't know how anyone can watch that kid play and not think he would've had better opportunities (without even having to look at his offer list). I don't know about you, but if I'm getting recruited by UCLA, Syracuse, Georgetown, etc, Nebraska doesn't even exist at that point. Miami was his lower "I want to play asap" school. And they just had a great year. We can't really even touch that right now. Quote
colhusker Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Count me one as not giving a rats backside that Lincoln and or Omaha are NOT bustling cities. To much crime, pollution and far to many people there. There are some that are ok with stud football recruits going elsewhere, many bitch if we miss on one they feel we should have gotten. That is NOT the case with basketball, yet. Hoping it becomes that way, means good things are happening. Quote
