Sam Mckewon said on Monday that the new Big East would be better than the Big 10 in basketball.

Is PJ Carlesimo still at Seton Hall?  And will Lou Carnesecca be returning to coach St. Johns back to their 1980's form?

Just to expand on this thought a little more...

Is Rick Pitino going to go back to Providence?

Are they going to exhume Ray Meyer and put his corpse back on the DePaul bench?

If not, then no.  The new Big East isn't better than the B1G.

Actually don't think this is good for us.

Creighton gives us a quality OOC game every year.  A team with a decent RPI and winning percentage.  Both of those are going to go down for Creighton in the new league.  They will be a middle of the pack Big East team in the strong years.

Can't fault them for leaving....but the level of success they've experienced over the last 15 years is about to go away.

No doubt this is a move that has some risk.  But it also puts Creighton in a whole new level of college basketball.  No the new Big East will not be as strong of a league as the Big 10 - but it is much, much stronger than the MVC will ever be.  CU fans have long resented the "mid-major" label.  Now that lable goes away.   Can they compete at the new level?  Remains to be seen.  But they do have a very good facility and fan base right now - equal to or better than the other schools in this new conference at least in terms of numbers.   That - along with the added prestige of the conference gives them recruiting tools they have never had before.  Fans may get frustrated by not having as good of a record.  At the same time - NCAA appearances are the standard by which many judge programs now and oin the new conference they will now be in a position to get in the tourney just be being in the top half of the conference - not having to win it (or come close to that anyway).

Lol. I know. Its just amazing to me that he,would say that.,,is he,tryin to fire up a fan base, does he have small mans disease like some creightonians? I mean lets be honest, the new big east looks really little to me. They have gtown and marquette.... butler... Creighton. Who else? Sec on,steiroids. But even mentioning them in,the same breath with the big 10???? Uhh I want what sam is smokin

DIdn't read the earlier comment that mentioned Sam McKewon until just now... yeah, I don't believe the 16-team Big East is better than the B1G.  How in the world will the 10-team Big East Lite be as good as the soon-to-be 14-team B1G???

The Big East will be great for Creighton as it will be one of the top conferences in the country with the additions and once they add St. Louis and VCU next year they will be in top 3 most years of the best.  Now Creighton does not have to win their tournament to get in a lot easier to get in Dance in BCS type leagues....just finish 4--6 every year and you are in.  MWC is a tough conference and number 1 conference in RPI this year.

Better teams at top and just as good as Big 10 look at teams now.....Rutgers and Maryland is not better than CU, Xavier or Butler.

Its ludacris. That league is not, that, good. ,depaul? Providence? Lmao. That league is better than mvc, but wow, its not that great. Oh well greggie mcdermott will show his true colors in leading a "bcs" school.

Big 10 with PSU, NW, lol......would you take in the bottom two matchups?  MWC is loaded at top

The,new big east is still a midmajor conf esp now. They should rename it cuz it is not big east worthy without cuse, uconn, louisville, notre dame, I mean come on.

Not a mid major and with parity at all time high in college basketball....take the top 5 of Big East and they would compete with any other conference.

I feel that this is a HUGE mistake for the bluejays.  they have a guy who FAILED at a BCS skills, proved he cannot recruit, and now they are in a league that will feature Gtown and Marquette amongst others that are much better and more consistent than the purple aces.  This spells mediocrity in Omaha.

The whole thing is Creighton knows where they are headed.  They dont have Tim Miles.  They know they are beaten.  Clinging on to a new conference gives them short term satisfication.  They will NOT experience the success that they have in the past with the MVC, and that is a fact.  And with the guy that is running the program now...they should get used to 6th place finishes in this new league.

Could be true with coach there, but more money and a top arena will attract better players.  It IS NOT a fact they will struggle, hope Doug stays another year to see how he does against top competition all year.  6th place finishes has a better chance at making the dance as in MVC they had to be top 2 to make it so its easier in top conference to get to dance and thats a FACT, more money a no brainer.
