Coley did not miss a shot. Really helps us. Callin was solid as usual. Lex was a beast in the 2nd half! Coley has been clutch with her threes the past couple games. Love to see it! Hake has a pretty shot! I’m nervous when she is the primary ball handler though, and her defense is just too weak. Quote

I would be interested in your reasoning that her defense is weak. I personally can see a few holes that the team as a whole should be able to cover up with scheme. As a comparison, some could argue that Jaz is a bad passer due to her number of turnovers. However, instead, I would argue that she is a great passer and is probably prone, and perhaps coached, to take chances. She doesn’t have the lateral movement or foot speed to keep up with anyone who has any wiggle or quickness. Same with Jazz. That’s why it’s always white and Potts or white and coley who play up on the ball in the press. Those other guards just don’t have the speed to keep up. Hake also falls asleep on her help side defensive assignments and gets lost in transition. The pg for MSU is quick, but White contained her all game. When anyone else was guarding her she had no trouble getting by them. Jazz isn’t quick either, but she’s smart, so I do think she’s a better defender than Hake. I agree that Jazz is a great passer and takes risks that pay off. Huskerpapa 1 Quote

Tom Jones Posted December 10, 2023 Report Posted December 10, 2023 (edited) Lots of insightful comments here. I will try to add a few. Just re-watched the entire game - with several instances of rewind and watch it again. Main story of the game: three point shooting. Coming into this game (and disregarding quality of competition on defense) MSU was the better 3 pt shooting team. But yesterday the reverse was true. We hit 'em, they missed 'em. Everything else exists in the shadow of that. Markowski: hardest worker on the court. What a beast. Perhaps her most dominant half (against quality competition) yet. Hake: She won't make anyone's all defensive team, but it's not a glaring weakness. She is not asked to do what she can't do very well (pressure the ball handler), but she manages her court space ok once the ball gets in the half court. She has to be in the lineup to keep the ball pressure guards rested and bc of her offense. 3 pt shot - sets up quickly, smooth release, goes in often enough. Petrie: Getting better all the time. She is improving faster than the quality of competition increases. AS is not missed as much as I thought she would be and her minutes may be more limited after her return from injury. Officiating: Again, I will defend it. I re-watched carefully. There were only five calls that I would question, and two of those went in the Huskers favor. Coley: Yeah, the shots went in. Wish we could count on that. Potts: What a freshman! She has all the skills to go with her determination and enthusiasm. Roll on! Two items that won't make the stat sheet: 1) Robyn Fralick dominated the "coach onscreen cameo time" outscoring Amy Williams about 5 to 1! 2) Natalie Potts, Lindsay Krause, and Britt Prince can go together to any restaurant or event in America and convince all onlookers that they are sisters. HUD Posted December 11, 2023 Report Posted December 11, 2023 It's OK to play tough but needs to be under control. Coley has to control her temper a bit. Her technical in the TCU game hurt us in a close game. In M.S. game it was just a foul/turnover after review but it could have been a technical if her swing had connected more. All About the Corn Posted December 11, 2023 Report Posted December 11, 2023 While none of us want to see us have a 17 point lead with a little over 2 minutes and let it get down to 4, I'm sure Amy wasn't happy either. We have too much (guard) experience and that should not happen, even with pressure MSU was using. I will say Jaz did have a good assist/turn over ratio so OK with some of her TO. Will give DW a pass as it was her first B1G game but still being a graduate player she should be better. I think Jaz does better when she makes a few baskets inside the arc before taking 3's, 1 for 7 will not cut it. I have always felt like Coley could be that type of shooter for us but it is a fine line with the rest of her game and sometimes she does hurt us. Partly why I think Potts needs more time on the court. Will take all road wins in the B1G because they will be hard to come by. Cazzie22, 12dozen and HUD 3 Quote
HUD Posted December 11, 2023 Report Posted December 11, 2023 I would hope that with the return of a healthy Anika S. and Maggie M. joining soon we will see Kendall Coley at the 3 for her playing time. We certainly need more scoring there as both Maddie K. and Kendall M. have not shown much potential to do so. Rebounding by them is also almost non existent as well. With the excellent play of Alexis M. and Natalie P. and emergence of Jess P. the minutes available at the 2 post positions are going to be limited. whoopdeedoo 1 Quote
redsteve Posted January 18, 2024 Report Posted January 18, 2024 Stats: We outrebounded them 46-28. ....That is outstanding, and where a lot of Mich. issues come from. Also read somewhere (read lots of stiff on game) that we scored about 40% of our points from in the paint. We had lots of layup's and bunny type baskets. That will up your percentage normally. Quote
