I have followed Alexis's career for quite awhile.  She will be the go to person the rest of this year and the rest of her career.  She's just starting out and with her dedication on and off the court her ceiling is pretty high.

Improvement so far this year, is noticeable.  The way she keeps her arms high, stays vertical while rebounding and shooting, is impressive.

So with Markowski, Mendlesson, Popa, Stewart and Cravens as posts. Who playing and who will leave.

The way Amy splits minutes, why would anyone leave?  Aren't these ladies covering forward and post positions? It might take Mendelson time to adjust to the college game. Popa might be a work in progress.  I think Izzie and Bella graduate in a year. I'm hoping it is just good depth, competition.

The way they have it planned is for Mendelson to practice with the BB team during the summer and then switch to volleyball once regular VB practice starts.  She will then take a little time off like 2 weeks or so and then join the BB team and be there for most of the conference season.  We have good competition this year but could ramp up to great next year.  Plus you can always have injury raise it's ugly head.

They are all posts. Which ones play forward.

Mendelson isn't here yet, and will be part time when she gets here, and Popa is red shirting, so who knows where coach will play them.  Markowski is a true post. Craven has been listed as Forward and Stewart subs in for Bella, Izzie, or Markowski.  Not sure why you 'pigeon hole' them all as posts.   Are you suggesting only one of the five will play at a time?

I just took a look at the WBB roster at huskers.com.   Popa and Markowski are listed as C/F.  Stewart and Cravens are listed as Forwards.

Sure, ...just speculation for the future...but....with all the length coming in it's conceivable Stewart could just play the forward just as a shooting 4

Not much known about the skill level of Popa, but from what I've seen she's a 5.  Mendelson is an active 4 combo... 5.  But we'll see...a lot of guessing about next year. Lot's of water to go under the bridge before then.

But have to remember, like said, Mendelson will not be a factor until volleyball is over., and will only play a shortened basketball season. But having seen her play, she will be a big actor come tourney time.

Issy is a junior with 2 yrs left because of the COVID year, and Bella is a senior who could play 1 more if she wants to.  So everybody could be back plus Mendelson and Popa.

Amy plays 2 bigs, lets not call them posts for now, in every offensive set. Right now the big slots are being filled by Issy, Bella, AM, Anni, and Coley. With one player hurt it works really well, but 5 players for 2 spots is too many. Sometimes the big's job is to go outside and set a screen or or be at the top for ball reversal, so there is nobody that just stays on the low post, and this why they all get some 3 pt and high post opportunities. There is no distinction between a center and a forward....just 2 bigs at all times.

Now, why would anyone leave? Top players are not happy playing 20 minutes a game when they can go to say, Michigan, and play 35.  Do any of the top players in the B10 play only the 20 minutes Alexis, Issy, and Bella get? Even Sam is only at 25. If they continue to win they will accept it for sure, but if they don't it can lead to problems.  Indiana plays 7, Michigan plays 8, Maryland plays 7, Iowa plays 7....is it coincidence or a reason they keep their top players and are so successful.

Markowski Claims Fourth B1G Honor

https://huskers.com/news/2022/1/17/womens-basketball-markowski-claims-fourth-b1g-honor.aspx

Quote

Nebraska's Alexis Markowski captured her fourth Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Week award of the season, when the conference announced its weekly honors for women's basketball on Monday, Jan. 17.

Markowski, a 6-3 forward/center out of Lincoln Pius X High School, erupted for a career-high 27 points on a career-best 6-of-7 three-point shooting to lead Nebraska at Iowa on Sunday afternoon. Markowski, who entered the contest 4-of-7 from three-point range on the season, went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc in the first 10 minutes at Iowa on her way to 16 first-quarter points..........She finished the game with 27 points on 10-of-12 shooting while adding four rebounds and two steals.

aaaaaaand.....i think it's fair to keep in mind just how tough it is to play 2 sports at this level---and if she would happen to make the decision at some point during her career to concentrate on one sport, we know it's going to be volleyball (i'm pretty sure she has even stated that is her strength). can't remember her name, but, the Arizona recruit from ND who wanted to play both sports decided to concentrate on bb. she did mention she wouldn't count out playing vb again, but, for now she is just playing bb.

not trying to be a downer....the possibility will be there. who knows, maybe she ends up playing both through her career. it's going to be interesting and enjoy the ride.

Volleyball may be her strength but basketball pays better

She has stated her overall goal is to make an Olympic team. And Nebraska is the place to be, to get there...in volleyball. Yes, she loves basketball too, and wants to give them both a go. Volleyball here s pretty demanding. Time will tell how she can balance it all out.

no doubt..........Cook must see a special talent to allow an athlete to play 2 sports. i thought he would really struggle recruiting someone that had aspirations to do so. pretty sure coach williams tried to recruit the ND player...not sure if Cook entered the picture at all.
