Teddy shot 37% last season at WNCC.

 

I was told that Thorir and Lat were consistently their two best shooters in practice heading into the season. Thorir is in a massive slump right now, but there's a reason Hoiberg keeps starting him and wants him to keep shooting the ball. He said that he worked with Thor on some mechanical things leading up to the USD game and that he was shooting lights out in warmups before the game, but the ball didn't really find him and he only attempted one 3. Hoiberg has confidence that he'll break out of the slump at some point.

I’ve also noticed Thor’s frustration a handful of times. And it’s not a “give me the ball because I want to score” thing. It’s more of a “give me the ball because that’s what you were supposed to do in that situation”. 
Our pace actually seems worse this year, due to not advancing the ball with the pass, not playing 0.5 basketball (a lot of ball stopping) and often times not running the offense in the half court. Remember how many wide open looks we got within the flow of the offense last year? Thor and Haanif got several layup attempts per game just cutting to the basket and receiving a pass. Cross and Kavas had several wide open threes per game. We just didn’t have good enough players. Seems like individual guys are having to work much harder to get their shots this year. I don’t think this is sustainable in league play and hope we improve our discipline as the year goes on.

It seems like the pace was 'Lights-out' in the first game vs McNeese St, several passes ahead to a player streaking toward the basket, but having slowed noticeably in subsequent  games.  Several times I thought South Dakota beat us getting back into their defense following rebounds.

Three factors here:

Teams know we're going to try and score in transition on every possession

How much each team values getting back on defense vs hunting for offensive rebounds

Our speed/determination despite the first 2.

 

Generally speaking you can look at a coach's resume on KenPom and their OR% on offense and get an idea of their philosophy on hunting vs getting back.  Some guys are consistent game to game, year to year. Others are not.  

 

NDSU and SD have been get back on defense teams.  Steve Alford doesn't really have a clear pattern; we obviously didn't generate many vs the Wolfpack.  

 

Flordia A&M projects as a hunting for offensive rebounds team.

Georgia Tech is variable.

Creighton is a get back and defend team.

In general I would think if we really want to play with pace, kicking the ball up is a much faster way to play than dribbling it up. They have to be open of course, but I have seen lots of times multiple ball handlers had that option and preferred to dribble to advance the ball.

Thanks Dimes (err Matt )   It seems like I've noticed some of same slow-down in 'steals' too (of course, the 'stealer' is streaking toward the basket if he can, but not always if he is not in the back court, or near the basket.   But then again we had an insane number of steals vs McNeese (16-12-11-9 respective games)
