Red Don Posted January 9, 2019 Report Posted January 9, 2019 Stats at the end of 3rd Qtr. Huskers missing too many lay-ups, and not getting fouled by MD. Quote
redsteve Posted January 9, 2019 Report Posted January 9, 2019 (edited) Yea,....refs let em play .... we don't play street ball well. We just don't play that style. So much fouling by Maryland....not much called To many easy layups by Maryland. We haven't shot well at all. We struggle to have a consistent scorer. turnovers ...some caused by a quicker Maryland. They shot better....almost all of their screens were moving. Called some of them but not even 10% of all the moving screens Their 5 star freshmen are pretty good. KarlHessEatMy.... Posted January 9, 2019 Report Posted January 9, 2019 We missed about 5 layups to start the 2nd half uggghhh Quote
Actualfacts1 Posted January 9, 2019 Report Posted January 9, 2019 Man our defense is pretty bad. On-ball defense allows straight drives to the basket; and help-side is slow to rotate. We also give up a ton of 3's (to all teams) because they're not disciplined enough to see ball and the girl they're guarding. It's very frustrating to watch. We're not a consistent high scoring team so we've got to play harder, smarter and tougher on defense, bc it would create a lot more transition offense.Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk mwm89, Red Don and redsteve 1 2 Quote

Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk Absolutely correct. Our defense has continued to not be consistently good. Seems to be something the kids are not understanding ...fundamentals about how to play defense. Who's the defense guru on staff ? Edited January 9, 2019 by redsteve Red Don and Actualfacts1 1 1 Quote
Cazzie22 Posted January 9, 2019 Report Posted January 9, 2019 Our effort tonight was good but Maryland was so much quicker that they did not allow very many uncontested shots. Our easy shots came in transition. We needed to shoot threes at the rate Maryland did tonight and they like us for a chance at victory. We have no one like Charles and their Freshman guard was the best Freshman on the court tonight. Their Jimmysand Joes were better than our X’s and O’s. The Terps are a cut above us athletically. mwm89 and Actualfacts1 2 Quote

Offensive execution seemed to digress as the game wore on (from our end). Over time as our program continues to grow hopefully we close that gap on the athleticism, hopefully with the next class. Red Don Posted January 9, 2019 Report Posted January 9, 2019 (edited) Statistically we hanged with Maryland quite evenly almost across the board; Number of shots taken, Rebounds, Steals, Blocks, Assists, & Turnovers, even out rebounding Maryland 38-37. Good Effort, Ladies (Grit; No Quit! ) But we left far too many points on the floor from missed lay-ups and open-looks throughout the game. Shooting percentages tell the story; FGs (51.6% vs 37.7%) and 3-pointers (58.8% vs 33.3%). Maryland made their lay-ups and open looks (some not so easy); we didn't. It could have been a different game had we made some of those early misses and maybe taken the lead a time or two. Edited January 9, 2019 by Red Don mwm89 and Actualfacts1 2 Quote

Long story short we burned inside, outside and lets be honest Miss Charles was going to burn us on the mid regardless, she is that good on the pull up. Actualfacts1 1 Quote
Red Don Posted January 9, 2019 Report Posted January 9, 2019 (edited) Official Box Score: Quote Huskers Fall to No. 9 Maryland Lincoln - Freshman Kayla Mershon produced a career high with eight points off the bench and helped Nebraska out-rebound No. 9 Maryland for the game, but the Terrapins used hot shooting to post an 81-63 women's basketball win over the Huskers on Tuesday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena While Maryland was firing on all cylinders on the offensive end, Nebraska hit just 37.7 percent (23-61) of its shots, including just 5-of-15 threes. The Huskers were 0-for-6 from long range in the second half, as Maryland pulled away down the stretch. Despite Nebraska's shot-making struggles, the Huskers went toe-to-toe with the Terps, trailing 45-43 with 5:45 left in the third quarter. Maryland erupted on a 12-2 surge over the next 3:37, and the Huskers never fully recovered. NU cut the margin back to seven at 63-56 with 7:30 left, but a 15-2 Terp outburst sealed Nebraska's fate. http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=211785927 Edited January 9, 2019 by Red Don Quote
