Red Don Posted June 26, 2016 Report Posted June 26, 2016 Thanks, Bugs! She concluded her storied 38-year career with 1,098 victories and eight national championships....... ....hired as the Lady Vols head coach as a 22-year-old in 1974. Two years later she was co-captain on the silver-medal winning U.S. Olympic team. In 1984 she coached the Olympic team to a gold medal...... Her all-time record was 1,098-208 (.840). She coached 47 percent of her games against ranked opponents () and also had a .913 winning percentage at home (504-48). Prayers to Pat and her family. When will we find a cure for this indiscriminate debilitating disease that robs so many of our senior citizens of their faculties? mwm89 1 Quote
redsteve Posted June 26, 2016 Report Posted June 26, 2016 In a lot of ways Pat Summit was the person who brought women's basketball, onto the American sports scene. Unreal accomplishments in her career. Some of all time best stats.... for any sport. Bugeaters1, mwm89 and Silverbacked1 3 Quote

Cazzie22 Posted June 28, 2016 Report Posted June 28, 2016 Great coach and leader. I wonder if she would be too demanding and tough for today's players. Bugeaters1, mwm89 and Silverbacked1 3 Quote
Norm Peterson Posted June 28, 2016 Report Posted June 28, 2016 She was good for the game. Great for the game. What a trailblazer. Cazzie22 and mwm89 2 Quote
KarlHessEatMy.... Posted June 28, 2016 Report Posted June 28, 2016 Geno may end up with more wins than her when he is done. But I don't believe we will have another coach in our lives that will ever be like Pat men or women. Watching her crazy self on the court during games and seeing videos of her off the court she was amazing. Was fun watching Tennessee growing up just because of her. I sure wish she was still coaching. Quote
Bugeaters1 Posted June 28, 2016 Author Report Posted June 28, 2016 My wife and I drove over to Des Moines for an NCAA regional just to see her albeit she was at the of her career. The current coach did most of the on the floor coaching, but pat would get up off of the bench from time to time and do alittle coaching. from time to time Quote
Huskerpapa Posted June 29, 2016 Report Posted June 29, 2016 RIP Coach Summit. I had the pleasure of studying her coaching philosophies back in the day. Her teaching techniques were both unusual and stimulating. Her legacy will remain for decades. Quote
redsteve Posted June 30, 2016 Report Posted June 30, 2016 Here's one to think about: Every Pat Summitt-coached player who completed her eligibility at Tennessee graduated.Every player. In 38 years. huskerchode, mwm89, Cazzie22 and 2 others 5 Quote
