  1. I think it is pretty easy to defend that Creighton has been more successful in basketball over the long term than Nebraska. But I don't see much good on the horizon for Creighton. This was supposed to be their year, and now it is a dumpster fire. If you look at the younger players on the bench and those McDermott has signed, I just see a more robust dumpster fire for Creighton in the future.
  2. Had me going with that topic title! Whew! Great to hear what a tough player we have in Fuller!
  3. Just off the top of my head, Doc offered Bobby Portis, 2013 Rivals 5 star from the same high school as David Rivers. Committed early to Arkansas. I believe Ben Mclemore from St Louis, who eventually signed with Kansas, was a 5 star during most of his recruiting process. There are two or three others but I don't have time to look them all up. I am in agreement with you that Coach Miles is a superior recruiter to Doc, but it is not as if Doc never offered these guys. He could just never sign them! I hope Coach Miles signs tons of them! And maybe he will, but I think first he has to prove himself a bit more by winning at a higher level, which I am confident he will do.
  4. I watched those games too, and agree with you Norm. I still have hope that Tai will be everything we all expect. Regardless!, I am very optimistic regarding Coach Miles & staff recruiting prowess. Having said that, I will not hold my breath on a 4 or 5 star, and give the coaches accolades for offering highly rated players, until they actually sign one. And I don't count Tai as a 4 star until he proves he is as good as his press!
  5. Miles signed a 4 star in his first year and had the #1 overall recruit on our campus. I have more faith in him than I did with Doc. Not to mention he has already won as many games as Doc did last year. I'm not criticizing Coach Miles or supporting Doc. Just pointing out a fact. Until Coach Mile actually signs one of these guys I won't get my hopes up. I believe we need to win some more games and become more competitve before a U.S. 4 or 5 star will give us a serious look. I assume the 4 star is Tai Webster. But where is he a 4 star? Neither Rivals nor Scout have ranked him.
  6. Doc offered 5 star guys every year. He just never signed any. I'm not defending Doc, just saying that until we sign one there is nothing new here except the publicity.
  7. And how do you factor "coaching up players" into this discussion? There are several players producing at a much higher level than I expected at the beginning of the season. Do you credit this to natural improvement with another year under thier belt or is this staff responsible for better than expected player development? I contend it is improved player development on the part of this staff. I would say that Ubel is far more effective this year than last. It is not normal for a player to improve this dramatically between his junior and senior years. For heavens sake he now dunks with authority and has a spin move I have never seen before! David Rivers is really starting to play well. Would that have happened in the past? I know at the beginning of the season I didn't expect either Rivers or Sheilds to contribute very much this year. And how about Gellegos? After a very lack luster sophomore year my expectations for his production this year were very low. Now he plays with his hair on fire at times!!
  8. I could be wrong, but going off memory, I can't ever recall him with crutches or wearing boots on his feet. Actually there were games where he would go through pre-game shootaround and warmups and then not play. Maybe he was in excruciating pain in those warmups. Or maybe his feet didn't really hurt *that* bad. I had a conversation with someone within the program earlier this year about Andre. The person I was talking with remarked that it is surprising that Andre had such terrible knee problems last year and this year doesn't even need knee braces. His point was that he felt most of Andres problem last year was attitude and that this year, under Coach Miles, his attitude is much better. I wonder if there was a similar problem with Jorge last year?
  9. One more servicable big man. Just one more and I think we will all be very pleased with the results!!!
  10. I thought there was no way we would win more than two games in B1G play, so he has already exceeded my expectations!!!
  11. Hahaha. What a great idea! When done properly, it is a pretty inimidating opening to any event! A couple years ago the New Zealand national rugby team performed a Haka for the Australian national rugby team prior to the match. At the end of the Haka the New Zealand team drew their fingers across their throats indicating slitting the throats of the Aussies. The Aussies walked of the field and refused to play the match for 30 minutes or so. We should try that with Ohio State!!!
  12. I love the Haka at the beginning of this video. A Haka is the traditional war dance of the New Zealand Maori tribe meant to strike fear in the hearts of their enemy. Its' most famous renditions are the Hakas performed by the New Zealand national rugby team prior to games. Tai and his teammates look particularly fearsome when they stick out their tongues and bulge their eyes, don't you think? Hahaha.
  13. Now I am concerned he can't shoot a 3 ball at all! All he can do is dunk! That will not work in the B1G.
  14. Hahahaha. Me too! I forgot to add the article said he was highly skilled but a little undersized.
  15. Interesting. Both 247 Sports and Rivals shows Williams with an offer from Indiana. Any truth to this? Also, a quote from an assistant coach adds some light "showing active interest are Villanova, South Florida, Drexel, Nebraska and Temple according to assistant coach Mark Vincent". An article I read said he has a great motor, is very active but lacks athleticism.
  16. I've become a huge Brandon Ubel fan this year. And yes, I would love to have him for either one or two more years!
  17. Do parker and Gallegos take a seat? I think that Parkers' playing time will diminsh with the additon of Webster and Biggs. It will be difficult to unseat Gallegos. He plays good defense, knows what Coach Miles wants and hopefully, with other scoring options on the floor, his shooting % will improve. I believe that Reyes will be our leading scorer next year, even with all the other scoring options we will have.
  18. I dont see Fuller at the 2 though in any scenario. Would it be great, of course, but he would get beat constantly by the quicker guards in this league. he needs to stick to the 3 and 4 where he matches up better at both ends for NU. yea. It's not going to be a starting lineup, but it might be a lineup to use against a team like Minnesota that have a bunch of slashers. Gallegos should be the 2 next year. Not sure what 2015 will look like. Hawkins will be the only other true sg after gallegos leaves. If NU gets Atewe and Thomas, the lack of experience should be the only thing NU has to overcome to have a really good team. I assume that Webster can play either the pg or sg positions. In fact, after watching the little film that is out there on him, I wonder if he won't be better suited to the sg position.
  19. I have read claims on other sites that academic scholarships also count against the total alotment for the team.
  20. Actually if I remember right, Menke does have a scholarship... Yes, but I assume he was offered a schollie for only one year. He will not be on scholarship next year. My point in him transfering. First of all, I doubt he transfers. He was a walk on to begin with and will be a walk on again. The one year scholarship was simply a matter of an extra schollie being utilized by a good kid, not because he deserves it for his play. I understood your point to be that his transfer will open a scholarship. Whether or not he transfers next year, he will not be on schoarship. He knew it was a one year only thing when he recieved the scholarship. Kye has never been on scholarship and never will be.
  21. Actually if I remember right, Menke does have a scholarship... Yes, but I assume he was offered a schollie for only one year. He will not be on scholarship next year.
  22. I think its 50/50 either way... they either leave or they dont right? . In all seriousness thoughI think there is an 80 percent chance that one player leaves. Sergej is probably as you said 50/50. Parker and Rivers IMO are less than 20. Menke or someone like Kye I feel will be the ones who transfer. Neither Menke nor Kye have any impact on scholarship numbers.
  23. Have you emailed Coach Miles regarding Andre? You can find his email address on Huskers.com under contacts. I suggest you do this as I would guess they will respond to your recommendation and perhaps take a look at Andre!
  24. I agree but I see Petteway taking minutes from Rivers and not Gallegos. Petteway will play a wing, Shields will be pf and Rivers will lose minutes. We need some 3 point shooting. Who are the logical 3 pt guys next year? Shields, Webster, Gallegos and Fuller (I am assuming Hawkins either redshirts or plays sparingly). I think Webster and Fuller will need some time before they are ready to play extended minutes. Shields starts but TM will need more than one 3 pt guy on the floor so I see Gallegos playing the role of the 2nd 3 pt guy on the floor. That means Petteway takes Rivers minutes, not Gallegos minutes. All of this could change if either Webster or Fuller come to Lincoln ready to play from day one!!!
  25. Lots of guys dont do well as freshmen that go on to have big careers. Jared Berggren at Wisconsin averaged 1.2 and 2.4 points his first two years before blowing up last season. Some guys need an adjustment period from being the man to being a team player. They also have to adjust to strength and a tougher daily schedule. I think with a grooming year for Petteway and Pitchford i think you will see much better products than they were as freshmen elsewhere. Yea. I just didn't think it made sense to move our leading scorer (Gallegos) to the bench in favor of Petteway. If Petteway's better than Gallegos, then he should be starting over him. We just have no way of knowing that at this point. It depends on our needs. Petteways first step is pretty quick. He is not physically strong relying more on height, quickness and ball handling skills to facilitate his game. Is he quick enough to play sg in the B1G? I'm not sure. This is where Gallegos may have a leg up. Also perimeter shooting. Petteway is a slasher and looks to have a strong mid range game along with real skills getting to the hoop. I have heard he is not very good at the 3 point line. Gallegos can be very good at the 3 point line. I assume we will favor a 3 point shooter with superior quickness and start Gallegos at the 2g.
