Isn't this really the consequence of starting so many freshman? Other players see the writing on the wall regarding playing time and leave for a place where they have a chance to play.

Sai Tummala -> Arizona St.-> Hawaii
MandRHusker replied to Huskerpapa's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I agree but would contend that Sai is a much better shooter than David Rivers, especially from the 3.Having Rivers will be nice though because he will allow us to ease sai into the lineup if he is not ready.Totally agree. Add some weight to Rivers and you have an effective, experienced PF in the B1G! -

Asst. Coach Ben Johnson to Minnesota

If he gave Coach Miles his word to stay three years, and as a result was hired as an assistant, I fault him a whole bunch!!! -
Asst. Coach Ben Johnson to Minnesota
MandRHusker replied to joshvanklomp's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I read that Coach Miles asked for a three year commitment from each assistant. This is why Chin was never offered an assistants role as he would not commit to the three years. So much for Ben Johnson's word if this happens. -
I am hoping that between a point guard who can penetrate and dish to open guys for open 3s and a more effective inside game that Gallegos will have more open looks than he had last year. This should help him raise his shooting percentage. Those open looks will depend on Petteway/Biggs/Webster being able to consistantly penetrate and Pichtford to learn to be an effective post scorer. Not sure if either or both will happen, but there is a chance.

I would be ecstatic if that were the case. I got to watch one practice this year, and Pitchford was a BIG step down from Ubel. It was early in the year and not a very big sample size, but he looked like he had a lot of work to do. Like I said, I hope you're right. We will need all the help we can get inside. I had the same experience. I saw Pitchford early in the season and he looked athletic but ineffective. I saw a second scrimmage late in the season and he looked vastly improved. Had a beautiful turn around jumper from 10 on Ubel and a simultaneous rebound/one handed dunk. Like you, it was a small sample size but Pitchford appeared to have made tremendous progress through the year.

Josh Davis - Possible Tulane Transfer
MandRHusker replied to doc1394's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
If I were Josh I would be looking for a team in a power conference with an established point guard who can distribute the ball and a crew of proven shooters to prevent teams from clogging up the middle. I don't think we fit that description yet. -
He would be a 2013 recruit, correct? Interesting. I thought we would focus on bigs for the last spot.

Josh Davis - Possible Tulane Transfer
MandRHusker replied to doc1394's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Robin said that Davis had 19 points and 13 rebounds against us when we played Tulane early last year. Huskers won 61-57. -
Robin contacted Sai over the weekend. Sai said he would set up his visit to Nebraska sometime this week.
-
Big get! Now let's go get Sai!
-
According to Robin's article on HOL last Friday we should hear something today or tomorrow regarding his decision. Hope he commits! We really need a big guy like him.

I always felt that Doc started with a small pool of players and ended up settling for the lower end of that pool. With Coach Miles and staff I feel we start with a much larger pool of recruits almost all with higher ceilings than any of Docs recruits. The key here are the assistants. IMO Coach Miles did a masterful job of recruiting talented assistants!!! They can all both coach and recruit!

You can step away from the ledge. This is still year one. And this isn't a Bob Huggins "anything goes" operation. Recruiting will improve incrimentally. We'll get lower rated players with large upside at first and then improve our recruiting as the staff proves itself on the court. Unless we hire a high profile name, or someone willing to cheat, there is no other way to do it.

I am in the "both" category too. We need an unmovable object inside to help secure the middle. Smith can fill this role. And we need an athletic 4 who can do it all, like Sai. This would be the perfect combination! I'm not saying that Smith is a world beater but if he just givess us 10-15 quality minutes I would be happy. And Sai seems to be ideal to fill the role of the athletic 4.

Matthew Atewe -> Auburn -> Washington

A little theory. Humor me on this.
MandRHusker replied to Norm Peterson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I agree with your theory Hooper what is the reasoning for giving up on Vucetic? Is it strength and conditioning? Personally I'm not giving up on Vucetic at all. I saw him scrimmage and he looked pretty good. But given the scenario that someone has to leave to make room for Smith, I think Vucetic is the most likely. He is on a team that desperately needed bigs and barely played. I could see him becoming discouraged and deciding to move on to a lower level of competition. I'm not even saying that the staff asks him to leave. If someone truly did request a transfer in January it could very well be Vucetic. Add in the fact that we are now interested in bringing in another big in this cycle and, to me, it points to Vucetic. -

I agree with your theory Hooper -
Robin said that Leslee's trip to Nebraska ends sometime today. I think he plans to call for an update after Smith leaves campus.

I remember reading a quote from Brandon Ubel about how hard Serj was working in the weight room.

Is Atewe saying he needs an SAT score to qualify? I thought he tweeted several weeks ago that he qualified? Thats Tai replying about the SAT Thanks! I was confused!!!
-
We'll be more talented but less experienced next year. If Doug stays, I think we lose at the CLink in a close contest. After that we move ahead of the Jays for the rest of time.
