Miles is retained what does the team look like
jason2486 replied to Ron Mexico's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
If I remember correctly, Sharp always claimed Shavon as his son. He's realistic and speaks his mind, but he has always appeared to be a loyal fan. -
Best draw we could've gotten most likely given all of the circumstances from this season. We have a chance to make a run, especially if we can get Thomas healthy.

He was about as much of a lock as we could've had. Unless Pederson or Eichorst were still AD that is. -

We aren't a blueblood (yet). We need stability, not another rebuild. -
So let's say we get past round 1. Do we want Wisky or Maryland 2nd round? I personally believe Maryland 2nd round with fresher legs and a fresher Tanner to lean on Fernando would be best. I would love our draw with a healthy Copeland and Allen, but then we most likely aren't having this conversation either obviously.
-
We also ran 2-3, something we haven't seen in a while. I thought before the Copeland injury, we could've ran some fairly effectively.

Not saying you're wrong, but what proof do you have that he was the "glue" guy?

Funny you bring this up Norm! I found myself browsing YouTube last night watching some old games, and I came across the 2014 B1G tourney when we should've beat OSU. We had lots of moments where it was Iso for TP and SS. We also had poor spacing and some very ugly possessions. I can honestly say it doesn't look much different from what we have seen since Smith left. That's not saying he isn't good, but the ridiculous thought that him leaving was our downfall is ludicrous. Michael Lewis does as good of a job with the offense. Our offense has had moments where it looks phenomenal. I think it's easy to forget how different we became once Copeland went down. Totally changes what we can do offensively and defensively.

For all the Miles' haters, as well as the people who think Miles didn't deserve an extension AND didn't think we should have been in the tourney last year, let me ask you this: Do you think Moos extends Miles had the committee selected us? Same exact team, same exact resume. I guarantee he does, which makes it all the more frustrating he didn't. We were 22 and freaking 9 in the regular season. That was our best since, what, 1991?!

I honestly feel like with the right coach, we should be no worse than a bubble team almost every year. That doesn't mean we make it each season obviously, but if schools like Wisconsin can do it, why the hell can't we??

Nebraska (15-14) vs. Michigan St. (23-6) Game thread
jason2486 replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
We lose a 5-star starter, his replacement is a walk-on with limited ability. Ward and Langford go down for MSU. Nick Goings, who was a walk-on originally for Sparty, and would have most likely started for us for possibly 2 years, fills in nicely and is a threat to score. MSU gets guys like Goings to walk-on, we get guys like Costello, Tanner, and Johnny (no offense to them). -
If that bracket holds, I don't hate the 2nd/3rd round matchups, although Fernando is a load. But the way we have been for 2 months, it really doesn't matter most likely.

One argument I hear over and over is that Miles was set up to do better than his predecessors by having the new arena, practice facility, private jet, etc. They say that he should've been better because of those things, and that those things helped especially with recruiting. I'm not saying that didn't help, as I'm sure it did. However, no one brings up the fact that he also was in charge of essentially bringing us into a much better conference coming to the B1G (I know technically Doc started us in the B1G). The level of coaching in this league is ridiculous. I don't think the B12 was the bear that the B1G is.

At the start of the season, if you would have told me that Palmer gets 30 and Watson gets 27 and we lose by double figures, I would have called you crazy. -

If Dakich complains one more f'ing time about their guys getting whacked, I just might lose it. Clearly he doesn't watch Nebraska games where our guys are constantly getting hit and not getting the call, including in this game. -

Goings with 16, averages 8, 1st half, makes sense. -
As much as some harp on x's and o's, our bigger issue is putting the ball in the whole when we have a chance (a lot of their issue I believe is between the ears). How many shots within 5-10 feet do we miss, how many times do we hesitate when we're open? Someone like him might've put our guys in the right frame of mind, especially around the time the tread started coming off the tires.
