Big Ten team news...(Hoopla's picks complete p. 17)

I will humbly state that her dad Andy is very good coach of post play and moves. He spent time as a college coach and knows his way around the paint. Just saying... -

On a spike? -
I hope Quaran sticks around. I liked his high school tapes and he has since gotten bigger and stronger. We'd heard good things about him before his latest injury. The issue, certainly availability and injury history. Here is the deal though. If Fred had told him that he no longer was in our plans; wouldn't he have already said goodbye? I would think so. And please correct me if I am wrong; but a player cannot "shop around" without entering the portal, correct? Otherwise it could be construed as tampering.

I join everyone hoping and wishing for information. But that information really can't flow from the staff. Staff members cannot comment on a player until she is signed. Hey, maybe things/rules have changed, and I'm completely wrong; but I don't believe the information bottleneck is on Amy or the staff. Information on football or men's basketball typically comes from recruiting sites, twitter or media members that follow recruits. That information is then relayed to the public. Yeah, I'm sure there are well placed leaks. So my question is what recruiting sites report on our women's teams? Those sites should be filling us with information we seek.

Thanks for the education boss.

I was reacting to the following "Seems like Hugley is ours IF we want him."

Just a humble thought/question. Why would we reach out and "recruit" a player without first doing our due diligence; at least in part? Money and time is spent, and why incur either cost if you are not going to sign him?

https://www.dailynebraskan.com/sports/nebraska-men-s-basketball-transfer-portal-overview/article_53d50a00-d3ff-11ed-99fc-0bc4b24a3387.html Good overview [if accurate] of our portal contacts, needs and priorities.

Certainly different than Sam G.

From an article in today's LJS: There has been consistent contact between Nebraska and Gonzaga transfer Hunter Sallis, as well, according to a source, though Sallis’ father, Trevis, expected to take at least this week to sort through options. Hunter Sallis had limited offensive opportunities with the Bulldogs but emerged as a defensive stopper this season. With eight known returnees and one 2023 high school signee — IMG Academy forward Eli Rice — NU has four scholarships available. Hoiberg said in a mid-March interview that Nebraska would add at least two — a versatile center and a point guard — and assess from there, adjusting as needed to Tominaga’s decision-making and portal availability.

Transfer Kerr Kriisa -> West Virginia

Yeah... Another thing to fret about is how many hole will need to be filled. Meaning, are we cock-sure there won't be further exodus from our team? Arguably, at this point, we need two bigs, at least one point guard, and one or two combo or off-guards and possibly another wing. When you see other teams successfully plucking "dudes" from the portal, many fans fear losing any traction that we gained last year. -

We are swinging and missing quite a bit. I am anxiously awaiting a home run. -
Hmm, is it really significant Big Ten news? I suppose it is; but I would rather hear about a different Badger, one that would turn to the portal.
-
I'm sure our sources are different; but I also heard he is a lean on returning. The young man certainly has options though, so we shall see.

So, we watch hockey to see the fights...we watch NASCAR to see the crashes...we watch rastling for the artistic beauty of the stunts and now we watch Women's basketball for the gestures and fighting.

Nebraska (15-9-1) vs. K State (19-11) Game Thread

Nice win! -
No. But the length of a taunt is not as material to me, as the taunt itself. In this instance, Reece taunted a player that is notorious for taunting others. Perhaps Clark will learn that, with her talent, she doesn't need to draw attention by belittling other players. What did she gain by providing a brush off motion to the SC player? Was her intention to draw more attention to herself, or to belittle her opponent? I will say it again, all smack talk, all trash talking, all dismissive gestures should be eliminated. Heck yes, celebrate a great shot or play; but it can be done without the trash...in my humble opinion.
-
I will argue (gotta get a debate going) that what Clark did is worse. Shoot she has done it to various players and teams that did not instigate or demonstrate against her. She has strutted her talent around in an almost snobbish manner. She backed her actions with success on the court. But not only did she beat the players on the court she seemed to relish belittling them as well. She was a classic bully. I am not privy to conversations that occurred between the two players in the championship game; but I heard earfulls from Clark and Leah Brown this year. I am telling you, they were surprisingly bad. I do not condone trash talking on the floor. It has no place in the game of basketball or any other place in society. There was a time where you respected your opponent. You fought for the win; but you won it with your talent/skill, not words and boorish behavior.

Transfer Kerr Kriisa -> West Virginia
Huskerpapa replied to hhcmatt's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I read a West Virginia slanted article regarding their recruitment of this kid. They seemed to think they have him locked up. Perhaps they are right. They indicated that the only competition is Nebraska, who is in diar need of a point guard. What caught my eye in a bemused way was their take that the huskers shouldn't be a roadblock because West Virginia has the advantage of a better fan base and better facilities. Made me sort of go hmmm. -
Take the time to read "The Miracle of St. Anthony: A Season with Bob Hurley, etc" I am not going to say that it will change your mind, but it may. Personally, Bob Hurley is too much like Bob Knight; but part of that is the location of his school, and the "full time job" he worked along with his basketball coaching gig. He turned down a lot of lucrative opportunities to help the youth in that community,.
