  1. I kind of think that Tai will get the opportunity to guard Jok. I am more than a little concerned about the Iowa freshman PF, I think his name is Cook. He has been out with a broken digitus tertius, but before he was out, and since he has been back, he has been a very good player for Iowa.
  2. I am with HB on this one. We CANNOT look beyond the next game. Iowa will be a challenge for us. We can certainly win, we can certainly lose. Please, please, please beat Iowa.
  3. Talk about a disconnect between community, administration, staff and players. Not a good situation all around.
  4. I always liked Bo, but odd as it sounds, I was always frustrated by Bo. He has many wonderful attributes as both a person and as a coach...but the dude could have some of the most boorish behavior as well.
5. Thought I would go back to the Scrimmage notes about the players: Posted November 1, 2016 (edited) · Report post Hard to find anything negative to say. Here are some thoughts : * Tai looked pretty smooth. You can tell he is a senior. He showed he can still take it to the right...but can he go left. Jury is still out. * MJ is much bigger. He actually looked good on one dribble drive. He played most of the night against Jordy because... * Ed was mia. * Nick show nothing new. He will be a glue type player. * Glynn was present and played okay, nothing really stood out. * Jack was chatty, he was also shooting lights out. Excellent to see because we need that shooter. * Zay is still rusty. No question. But oh boy, this kid has talent. When he rounds into shape we are going to love this kid. His upper body is great. Is he still growing? He is at least 6'8". * Jordy has a good lower half but his upper body is likely a year away. That said he will play a lot of quality minutes for us. Man, he is gifted. * Horne was one of two good surprises for my group. I won't say who was sitting to my right side but we were giggling like school girls when watching him. I swear he is not the same player we recruited. * my second big surprise was Evan. The dude is a playa. * Gill looked rusty. No clue as to the starters. I could easily see various rotations at the beginning of the year. I would suggest that Tai will be a starter. Perhaps the others will be MJ, Glynn...and then who knows. May I add that Zay won two of three jump balls. When he went against MJ, MJ won the jump. There you have it. I was very happy with what I witnessed tonight. And the CUBS are up 7-0 Edited November 1, 2016 by huskercwg 4 Quote Edit Options Delete Hide all signatures Patience is the art of hoping ~ Luc de Clapiers
 3,804 Posted November 1, 2016 (edited) · Report post You just about can't help but be encouraged by watching Jordy go 5-6 from the floor and pull down 8 rebounds. He has a lot to learn yet, but he's going to be a very good one before too long. He has good hands and is very creative with the ball when he gets it in deep. Good footwork, good touch, fantastic size. Looked lost at times, but he's a true frosh without a real game under his belt yet. He did things tonight you never saw from Jake Hammond. Glynn didn't score much if at all but dished 6 assists (mostly to Jack McVeigh) to one turnover. Tai looks like he's ready to build off of last year. Speaking of McVeigh, Andrew who? This recruiting class looked damn solid and I'm convinced there's not a stiff among them. Was downright giddy watching Jeriah Horne. Holy smokes that kid got game. And any worry that Evan Taylor was a wasted scholarship just trying to fill a spot should have been laid to rest. He might not be a great shooter, but he's probably the backup point right now, plays more than adequate defense, and appears to be able to score well enough to force a defense to guard him. Even with the loss of Shields and White, I think we're better than a year ago. Was very encouraged by what I saw tonight. Very encouraged. Edited November 1, 2016 by Norm Peterson
  6. And we may be 3-0 when Jeriah plays significant minutes
  7. Anyone who remembers the Nebraska football team of the mid-90's can certainly relate to the "conversation" between player one and player two. Anybody who slacked at the Husker football practices had to face, among others, Wistrom and the Peter brothers. I thought Lee bringing up who was leading the team was on point and very important: "... average teams are led by coaches, great teams by players and bad teams by neither." It is also important to note that Coach Miles agreed with many of us on this board when 'he simplified the offense and asked his team to play with greater pace...'. The point Lee then made, which is very important, by simplifying the offense, it empowers the players and lessons the role of the coach. Again, he may have meandered to unnecessary topics at times, but the overall article was very well done and a compliment to the program. On a side note, I am in agreement about things said about football. I do believe the staff is doing a good job. There has been exponential growth of the program since Coach Riley arrived. Many people, including myself, believe talent needs to continue to be upgraded. But we also need to gain back that nasty edge and accountability that is still lacking. I do not advocate bringing in bullies and jerks, but you have to own the mentality that every inch of the turf is owned by you and your team. Any centimeter taken away from you has to be personal. If and when we get to the top in any sport, you have to have jimmies and joe's, program elite-ness and players who own their position.
  8. I have always kind of liked Lee, but I do know there are many who do not. That said, I believe this is an excellent article, and certainly recommend reading it. It made me feel pretty darn good about this team, and what the future may hold. http://www.theindependent.com/sports/huskers_hq/barfknecht-upset-wins-a-sign-of-nebraska-s-toughness/article_0be72f1e-d174-11e6-a289-83c149a0b0d9.html

  10. Man, I moved up multiple spots despite poor predictions. I guess I stunk less than a lot of others
  11. Man, I re-watched the game yesterday and I am still amazed that we closed the game (basically the last 4+ minutes) on a 14-0 run. Of course, I am also amazed that they went on a 17-0 run earlier in the half! Also was a bit torked at Tai. He played the last 11 minutes with four fouls. Each of those four fouls were rather cheap in nature. Fouls need to be earned, not given!
  12. I have been told that students may be back for Northwestern...maybe...but definitely not for Iowa. Crapola!
  13. Nice to read good things about our team... http://www.btpowerhouse.com/2017/1/2/14145518/what-we-learned-nebraska-cornhuskers-67-maryland-terrapins-65-recap-scores-stats-melotrimble
  14. After watching our first two conference games it is pretty easy to see that we are a physical/aggressive team. It has not been pretty when we were not working within that mindset. Do you agree? My concern is the refereeing crews in these first two conference games allowed us to play that game, especially down the stretch. MJ and Ed were beasts on the boards. Tai and Glynn can make their ways to the rim. How do we react when games are called tighter? How will it effect us, if at all? Just throwing it up against the wall to collect some chatter.
  15. What I learned this week was that every team has a chance to win on any given night/day. When you look at the RPI list, the Big Ten teams are all generally above 100. The next game we play is the most important game. We can certainly win it, but if we don't show up, if we don't play aggressively or not allowed to play aggressively, we can lose. The strongest will survive.
  16. My premonition tells me it is Matt Painter from Purdue...Big Ten taking care of their own.
  17. Goodness, I simply want us to win the next game on the schedule
  18. If we are playing an eight man rotation, it is more seamless to remove a player for a mistake and then reinsert the player without much time on the bench. The minute distribution against both Indiana and Maryland seemed very reasonable given roles, positions and performance.
  19. #6...not bad.
  20. I just re-watched the game. I always struggle when Ted Valentine is one of the referee's. I am always waiting for him to grandstand. He came close a couple times, but the calls were somewhat consistent, so that is good. The only issue I had with the color announcer was that on three separate occasions he referenced to our previous game "with Nebraska" rather than with Indiana...
  21. I hate to say this...but without the students in the house, I am concerned about the crowd. I believe the team will need to generate the excitement in order to whip up the fans versus the crowd pumping up the team. I will promise you this, I will do my part!
  22. It seems to me that Mr. Webster sort of relishes challenges. Any guess on who he will be covering Thursday evening?
  23. Hmm, just learned today that this kid is a relative of mine. Who woulda thunk it.
