No, he was a star player from Fairbury.

Bummer. I feel bad for Anton, his game seemed to be returning to him. This is a bad set-back for Anton and the team. Seems to me that it further opens the door for Jeriah. We need that outside shooter, and Anton seemed to be getting his stroke back. Major bummer.

Sorry, what Coach Fran did was not fake news. Fake news stories imitate the style and appearance of real news articles, and they are published on sites designed to look like established newspaper websites or political blogs. The key facts were made up by the authors, but the successful ones sounded just plausible enough to pass the smell test of a significant subset of readers who were already primed to believe outlandish things about a given candidate. You may very well have the explanations of what occurred down to a T, but what Fran and the team did was not fake news. Coach Fran admits to what he did, admitted what he did was wrong and apologized to the opposing coach for what he did.

2014 PFIsaac Copeland ->GTown -> Nebraska

I am not a big fan of picking up another "junior" next year. It would be good if we could start balancing our classes. Next year we will have two, possibly three seniors (Evan, Nick & Anton). Next years Junior class will have MJ, Jack, Ed, JP and Glynn. The sophomores will be Isaiah, Jeriah and Jordy. We currently have one incoming freshman. If you add another junior, that would place six players in the junior class. Seems too heavy. -
"...McCaffery’s postgame reaction was different from Bohannon’s. Now, McCaffery did tell ESPN’s Jeff Goodman on Wednesday that he regretted what happened after the game and that he texted an apology to Jones afterward. “I feel bad about it. I have a lot of respect for Brian Jones,” McCaffery told ESPN. “I wish it didn’t happen. I wish I shook hands. … But again, I think Brian Jones is a high-character guy and a heck of a coach. Assistant Jeff Horner is one of the best players ever to play here. I shouldn’t have done it. I feel terrible about what happened.” McCaffery is a fiery, emotional guy. That is part of it. The end of the game impacted him and it was still visible well after everything cooled down..." Land of Ten The point of my responses is to refute the statement that what happened was "fake news." This is real news, and it says a lot about the character of a man who is supposed to be teaching his kids. In this article it stated one of Coach Fran's players went up to apologize to a ND player for his actions in earning a technical. To blame the opposing teams when both teams were chippy is wrong. To throw up your hands at the end of a game and sulk off the court in a huff, is wrong. It is simply another example of behavior that should not be tolerated and should have resulted in some sort of reprimand by the Big Ten hierarchy. Husker fans lived with a coach that sometimes displayed that same boorish behavior. It was not right when he did it, and it isn't right when Coach Fran does it.

Miles comnent after Southern game was very disconcerting.
Huskerpapa replied to bkamler's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I have watched MJ shoot for multiple years. The kid has a pure shot and he can certainly shoot and make 3-pointers. He is allowed to shoot them because he does hit them consistently in practice. If he couldn't hit them, he would not be allowed to shoot them. But I can agree that he has not hit them in games during the first 12 games this year. Then again, not many of our players are hitting them. -
According to my buddy who is a diehard Hawkeye fan, this is not a fake story. It is, however, a story that took a slightly different direction once Fran started to take heat. Fran is not to be defended for his actions in this case. There may have been some aggressive plays during the game that irked Fran, but it was the ending that ultimately set him off. Give me a break. If I recall, the opposing coach had a Hawkeye background, I may be wrong, but that seems to stick with me. From USA Today: McCaffery was irritated with what he considered a few unnecessary and chippy plays in the closing moments of a game that Iowa led by 16 points with three minutes to go. North Dakota's Corey Baldwin tried for a steal and score with only three seconds left when Nicholas Baer was holding the ball to run out the clock and end the game. "I wasn't pleased with how the game ended and the things that happened," McCaffery said. "I don't think they teach that kind of stuff, but I was not having it. That's not the way to play."

Omaha Central vs. Winnebago @ Ralston Arena 12/21

He is currently a senior...I am not saying Tupper is at the same level as Chandler, I simply do not know. I am asking the Nebraska HS basketball addicts, that may know, whether they are similar. The last good big man from Northeast went on and had a pretty good run at Creighton. Bison Red coach Nick Krenk, who is leaving the country after the month of tournaments, said Tupper has shown giant leaps in coordination, speed and shooting accuracy. “He’s athletic and has improved so much offensively, I think his potential is at an all-time high,” he said. Krenk, who coached at Johnson-Brock for seven seasons, is moving to Hamilton, Ontario, to coach and join his wife, who completed medical school there. #video-ad-asset-container, #video-ad-asset-container-played { max-height: 0px; overflow: hidden; -webkit-transition: max-height 1.5s; -moz-transition: max-height 1.5s; transition: max-height 1.5s;} #video-ad-asset-container.expand { max-height: 1500px; } #video-ad-asset-container .video-responsive-ad { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; padding-top: 30px; height: 0; overflow: hidden; margin-bottom: 20px; } Pause Current Time 0:00 / Duration Time 0:00 Remaining Time -0:00 Stream TypeLIVE Loaded: 0% Progress: 0% 0:00 Fullscreen 00:00 Unmute Playback Rate 1 Subtitles subtitles off Captions captions off Chapters Chapters “We have a lot of guys who are going to get noticed by NCAA Division II schools and a couple, like Trace, who will get some recognition from Division I schools now,” he said. ************************************ Tupper, a 6-foot-9 senior, scored six of his 19 points in the fourth quarter to help the Rockets earn a 59-44 victory over Lincoln Southeast on Thursday at Prasch Activities Center. After Southeast trimmed the lead to 43-35 early in the fourth quarter, Tupper made a free throw and then got a dunk on a fast break and completed the three-point play. He had three of his five blocks in the final period, causing problems for the Knights' offense. "You don't play against a guy like that very often. You don't see a guy who is 6-9 and athletic like that very often," said Southeast coach Jeff Smith. "He had five blocks and he changed at least five others. Our shot selection was very poor."- 18 replies

We go after Nebraska kids. They have been out-state kids that play on our scout team for the most part.

Question for the board - Marc Boehm
Huskerpapa replied to basketballjones's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Coach Anwar is now on a North Texas staff that is lead by Head Coach Tony Benford. Note that he lost his mustache. Of course Tony was an assistant at Nebraska from 2006 to 2008. Gotta love this paragraph in Anwar's bio: The Huskers also showed the ability to score from long distance in 2009-10, as Eshaunte Jones (40-of-92, 43.5 percent), Ryan Anderson (54-of-126, 42.9 percent) and Brandon Ubel (11-of-21, 53.4 percent) helped Nebraska set a school record and rank 15th nationally in 3-point percentage (39.7 percent). -

We must be watching a different player. But I am sure that he is only getting minutes because he has some secret about the coaches. If they sit him, then the secret will get out. Jokes aside, there are multiple reasons why he is getting the minutes he is receiving. He continues to earn them. -
Southern (4-7) vs. Nebraska (5-6) Game Thread
Huskerpapa replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I tend to believe that you currently have four players who should split the 80 combined minutes at the PF and Post positions. Jordy, Ed, MJ and Jeriah. These four should get 15 to 25 minutes a piece depending on match ups, effort, execution and results. Sure Isaiah could play some PF, but he seems more comfortable at the wing. By the way, did you hear Coach Miles in his post game radio interview talking about the physical practice and Isaiah's issues? Not saying Isaiah can't play physically in the paint, but he currently appears to be more comfortable playing a finesse game. -

I respectfully disagree that Jacobson needs less minutes. He is an excellent passer, he defends, he boxes out and he moves the ball. He is struggling a bit on the offensive end, but then again, isn't the majority of the team? If we bench everyone trying to find their offensive identity, we may not be able to put five players on the court. -
Fran being the typical boorish Fran. What is worse Fran, a team playing through the final horn, or a team and coaching staff walking off the court after a contest without shaking the opponents hands??? Seriously, what the hell is he thinking? If I were the Big Ten Commissioner, the dude would be sanctioned.

Southern (4-7) vs. Nebraska (5-6) Game Thread
Huskerpapa replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
What was interesting last night is that we sort of switched things up on the defensive end. Earlier this year Jeriah struggled on the defensive end as he was guarding the wing position. Remember, Jeriah generally played defense in the paint in HS. If you watched last night, it certainly appeared that Jeriah was playing/guarding more of the inside rather than the perimeter player. Oftentimes Southern seemed to be playing four guards, but still, it appeared Jeriah was playing more of a PF role than a wing role. "Fans" that have been beating on MJ for taking 3-pointers; those seemed to be the same shots that Jeriah had at his disposal last night. Again, the offense produces those looks, and it is the expectation that the player having those looks, shoots and makes those shots. If executed, the offense goes from bad to good pretty quickly. -
uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: Vol 9, Ed 12 - Southern
Huskerpapa replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
The game was entertaining. Southern had some good players and some of their made shots were, well, sort of lucky. We seemed to play with a bit more continuity on the offensive end. We play terrific defense, and then seem to have more than our share of breakdowns leading to easy baskets. Obviously Jeriah played a wonderful game. I would love to see him stay consistent with that shot. I thought Evan and MJ played solid games. I thought Ed, Tai, Jordy and Isaiah had their moments, but also struggled at times. Ready or not, the Big Ten season is upon us. We shall see if we can continue to grow exponentially the remainder of the season. -

Jeriah had an excellent game. But remember, don't jump on has a** when he struggles. It will happen. Just saying. Also, Southern hit some unbelievable shots. I believe four of their 3-pointers received a "I cannot believe that went in" comment from me. I know that Southern is a good, but not great team, but they did have some very good shooters, or they sure seemed to be good shooters. Numbers 3 and 10 could ball. -

He will only get better. If we haven't started recruiting this kid, we darn well should be. -
I have vented, I have my very strong opinions, but now I have to move on. What happened is now in the past. The future starts with the Southern game. This team needs to find its identity and it can still occur. We know that we do not have a great perimeter game. We need points in the paint. I see a team of athletic players who can run and take it to the basket. I see depth that can play more aggressively and force action. We have seen the bumps in the road, and quite frankly there will be more this year. But perhaps, just perhaps we find our collective mojo. I look forward to the good times, starting tomorrow night.

Worth repeating... I will say nothing more then this was an absolute train wreck today. I do not understand how you can be so unprepared mentally and physically to play. This had nothing to do with youth, it had everything to do with believing you can simply show up and play a game. Preparation stunk. Continuity stunk. Offense stunk. Defense stunk. Weather stunk. Fans stunk. Even the opponent sort of stunk. They weren't that good. UNACCEPTABLE. Totally unacceptable. Nuf said. Crap, one additional thought, sorry. What in the heck is Glynn doing starting the game on the bench? He is one of out two, perhaps three offensive weapons, and he is starting on the bench???? Come on man, find a different way to wake up the player.

While working out, I watched the first two or three minutes of the game. White hit two straight catch and shoot three pointers...ooooofffffff. Had to change channels. I then noticed the final box score. He sure didn't do much more the remainder of the game.
