It probably doesn't help matters that his ego likely takes a hit when he sees his friend and former adversary, Chuckie Hepburn, playing a major role at Wisconsin.
My money though is on Hunter staying put.
Has anyone else heard any rumors relating to a possible assistant coach hire. Ummm, perhaps a coach with very recent conference head coaching experience. An ex-head coach with some pretty strong ties to Lincoln??? Perhaps someone who has strong recruiting ties to both the east coast and the plains. Just asking for a friend.
Yeah, kind of an ongoing theme. Has Fred had his "end of the season" meetings with the players yet; or has his immediate focus been on staff?
My belief is that we will start hearing of definitive player decisions once those meetings take place.
It has been a decade or so ago; but I believe Davison was a pretty salty football QB and was recruited for both sports. Again it has been so many years ago my memory may be shaky.

I wonder if he would have to sit a year?
Aren't we limited to three assistants? If so we only have one assistant coaching position open? We would also have one staff position as well.
Here is a question. What part of the country do we wish to recruit? For example, Miles liked Chicago. I sort of think Gates recruits the upper midwest...I think. Sounds like Nebraska and other lower midwest will be handled by Loenser. Gates currently develops the backcourt and Loenser handles the frontcourt...but I digress.
If we want to focus on another area, then that is where our new assistant needs to come from. Right?
Hmm. I wish all coaches and players well. And if Frost made the decision to bring him back in a subservient position, I would support it.
Doc had a great coaching pedigree and knew his X's and O's. His issue was his reluctance to sell his soul to AAU programs and as result struggled to secure top line talent. But given that talent issue, he could out coach many of his peers.
I knew this was likely, and I am likely in the minority, but this makes me more than a bit sad. Good luck Doc and thank you so much for your time, effort, approachability and expertise.
Lol...ah yes, a hidden gem. He was a pretty darn good as well.
