Aren't we limited to three assistants? If so we only have one assistant coaching position open? We would also have one staff position as well. Here is a question. What part of the country do we wish to recruit? For example, Miles liked Chicago. I sort of think Gates recruits the upper midwest...I think. Sounds like Nebraska and other lower midwest will be handled by Loenser. Gates currently develops the backcourt and Loenser handles the frontcourt...but I digress. If we want to focus on another area, then that is where our new assistant needs to come from. Right?
-
Yeah...disappointing.

Hmm. I wish all coaches and players well. And if Frost made the decision to bring him back in a subservient position, I would support it. Doc had a great coaching pedigree and knew his X's and O's. His issue was his reluctance to sell his soul to AAU programs and as result struggled to secure top line talent. But given that talent issue, he could out coach many of his peers.

2022 SF Ramel Lloyd Jr - LOI
Huskerpapa replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Didn't he sign. If he does renege on his signed letter of intent, what are the resultant ramifications? -
Too bad...so sad. I would love to know the reason he chose Nebraska?
-
Yeah, an analyst comparison is probably accurate. He took over Bobby Lutz's role when he left.
-
Whatever is assigned to him by the head coach.
-
I knew this was likely, and I am likely in the minority, but this makes me more than a bit sad. Good luck Doc and thank you so much for your time, effort, approachability and expertise.
-
Lol...ah yes, a hidden gem. He was a pretty darn good as well. https://germanhoops.com/2019/06/23/sam-griesel-is-the-nebraska-kid-with-the-german-connection/

Ah yes...but a player can also spend an enormous amount of time practicing bad habits and reinforcing bad motor skills. The importance of coaching and assisting a player to develop, is to provide techniques and tweak skills that properly builds a player and reinforces great behavior. Player development is a marriage between player and coach. Even the greatest players of all time still have coaches that have the skills to observe and teach...

NM State players and staff embraces Teddy's game and appear very willing to let him shoot any shot at any time. Also noted that they had one or two players and a staff member or two constantly around him. Sort of protecting or helping guide him so to speak. Teddy was pretty special last night and he was relishing it...rightly so.
-
Teddy flippin Allen!!! When he good...he can be, and is great!

If we want them, then we re-recruit them. Not a biggie. If Matt A is actually a friend of Fred's, I doubt he will negatively recruit against him on those players...but hey who knows. Kinda seems strange that players would come to Nebraska for a "coach" that doesn't actually coach. Unless of course, that coach provides them something besides coaching.
-
Lord...this is not the Iowa team we played...dare I say...chokers.
-
Had to personally be a tough conversation between Matt and Fred. I wish the marriage would have worked...but it didn't. I am quite sure Matt will land on his feet. I am also quite sure that any loss of recruits will be okay. If that player leaves, I will guess that it wouldn't have worked anyway.

2022 PG Cale Jacobsen -> Nebraska
Huskerpapa replied to Huskerpapa's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I agree. I don't believe there is any doubt that he could play well at this level. My only question would be if he has the quicks to defend point guards. -
I'm not quite sure what sour taste Ed would have had here other than he wanted more time on the perimeter. I guess he also had a few foot problems. Could you elaborate as to what created his sour taste for Nebraska? I thought it was generally an amicable parting. Sort of the sign of the times so to speak.
-
Yeah, I am one of the few who believe there are WAY too many small schools in the tournament. Small school novelty is not a reasonable exchange for Power 5 type teams that may have had a rough patch during a season that may currently keep them out. Just one man's humble opinion.
-
Wowser. I couldn't agree more with his comments/opinion. If bias plays a role, that needs to be ferreted out immediately!

You have two separate situations withtTrey and DW. DW is likely ending his basketball career when he leaves here...correct? He is working towards his graduate degree and already has started a business. His education is now free and the NIL money will assist him in building his future without debt. That is quite a luxury. I suggest he will take advantage of the situation if at all possible. Trey wants to continue with basketball. If Bryce is back, Trey is back. If Bryce leaves, Trey will likely weigh his basketball options. Stay here, or go pro which includes possible NBA looks. His tenacity, his athleticism and his prowess on the defensive end will earn him a look. If he comes back, it will be to further hone his offensive skillset. Right now his long and mid-range game is fairly pedestrian. If he can improve those two elements of his game and maintains his ability to slash...then I can see him playing in the league with his brother after next season. Heck, if Banton can do it, I sure think Trey can as well.

New Mexico St. (9-4) vs. Nebraska (5-9) Game Thread
Huskerpapa replied to Bugeaters1's topic in Other Huskers Sports
I am still not convinced. If we say level 3 is okay, level 5 is competitive in the Big Ten, level 8 is the capability to win the Big Ten and a 10 is winning games in the NCAA tournament...then we are 3-4 (okay) right now. Bottom line, to meet preseason expectations, we have a ways to go. We do have some pieces to make it happen, we will hope for some exponential growth, sooner rather than later. -
2023 SG Parker Friedrichsen -> Wake Forest...for now
Huskerpapa replied to royalfan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
He gone...we move on. -
IF Lat returns (and if I happened to be the coach) the following would occur. He would HAVE TO improve his handles or he would fully understand he is to only catch and shoot. Secondly, he would not start. Rather, he would be a role player off of the bench. He certainly has been our most frustrating player to watch over the past two years. We hear of his exceptional prowess in shooting the three; yet he constantly bypasses the open look, puts the ball on the floor and becomes a turnover waiting to happen. Lord, it is simply deflating.
