Realistically, unless we have a in-road to someone we don't know about today, it's going to be awfully tough to upgrade our talent with a 2014 signee. And by upgrade, I mean signing a legitimate top 50-100 player. I guess I am a little more cautious than most on Hammond's potential. It concerns me that the guy has played at 4 schools in 4 years, commits, then de-commits to OU. We'll see. Getting a top 50 recruit to consider us until the final weeks is it's own form of progress at NU, though.

Bon Jovi for Nebrasketball: Do we need to stop it?
HuskerCager replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I've heard worse. Can think of a few better. From a old man's perspective, this is definitely better than Kanye West and Jay-Z. -
If you already know, why wouldn't you just announce it today? I would think this will make it hard for the family between now and Tuesday.

It's one thing to claim the World-Herald has created controversies within the Husker program. It's quite another to say they have reported controversies. I think the second sentence is more accurate.

The Notre Dame basketball coach offers his two cents worth of the state of NE basketball, but obviously doesn't wander this side of the Mississippi too often.... BTW. I misspelled coach Brey's last name on this topic title. Kind of taking the lead from the OWH, if you notice. http://www.omaha.com/article/20130914/HUSKERS/130919092/1002

Well, I guess our program still has a long ways to go before it earns the respect of it's conference peers, recruiting wise. According to this Buckeye blog, the only "real" competition the Buckeyes have for Robinson's services are Georgetown and Louisville. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1766456-ohio-state-basketball-recruiting-buckeyes-biggest-competition-for-2014-targets I must say, I think our luck with Robinson is going to center on where other centers go. Let's hope players like Myles Turner or Okafor end up at places like Louisville, OSU or Georgetown.

Interesting article that belongs in the "it's a small world" department, regarding NDSU, Tim Miles, Craig Bohl and David Wacker's dad, Mike. http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/410942/

Wasn't Louisville upset with Miles for attending one of Agau's games after he committed to Louisville? Given that, I'm just 100% sure Pitino would never attend one of Mudlay's games now that he's committed to the Mustangs, much less try to recruit him.
-
So what is it about Miles that he is doing different than our past coaches that couldn't succeed here? Right now, my simple answer is that he hasn't been at Nebraska for 6 years yet, like Doc or Barry. It's too early to say he's been more successful here - wait a few years.

Huskers.com has an article bragging up these numbers, but in reality, the 10K average is sold seats, not actual attendance, which was 8K last year. It's not accurate for the University to compare the attendance in the 90s and earlier because the actual attendance was used at that time by NU and most other schools. I don't mind them tracking seats sold, but I hope they will continue to announce the actual attendance at PBA as they did at BDSC.

This seems like a good time to remind my Husker BB friends about a couple facts concerning our rivalry with Creighton: Our won-loss record over the last 15 games: 4-11. Last year's result: A 22 point drubbing at home Now, I agree, the future is starting to look more bright, but until I see that start to appear in our W/L column, I'm keeping my feet on the ground. It's probably just me - I'm not one to talk smack anyway - but it just seems to be a little silly to smack-talk with fans from our in-state rival right now.,

I went through the rosters on Huskers.com,which run all the way back to 1950 -- not one Oklahoma native. Of course, if you include the coaching staff, then we could say Moe was the last Okie. I would be very interested to hear Teddie Owens' take on Hammond, given that he was on the Sooner staff when Hammond committed, then de-committed. He obviously must have sold Miles on the young guy, and perhaps was instrumental in getting him to visit then commit to Lincoln.
-
When was the last time we have had a native Sooner on the roster? I can't think of a player. Can anyone else?
-
I was thinking of Tyronne, too, when this news came out. I agree - if he was worth pursuing before the academic issues came up, it doesn't hurt to keep the interest level high, and maybe get an inside track in the event he gets those issues ironed out.

How many of you are old enough (like me) to remember this name? This slide show from the Washington Post features former Colorado player JoJo Hunter. Didn't realize he had been doing jail time. I remember seeing Hunter play at least twice in the Devaney Center. He killed us in a first round conference post-season game in Lincoln in 1981 (back when the first division teams hosted the 1st round games in the Big Eight). Heckuva shooter. Slide 5 shows Mike Naderer and Greg Downing defending Hunter.

Deng Deng 2014 Juco F *committed to Baylor 5.4.14*
HuskerCager replied to Badgett Fan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Deng Deng's a wing? Must be better than Shang Ping. Imagine the excitement that would bring. Maybe a championship ring? That would really make me sing. Sorry, it's a slow weekend. -
Cager I looked at mine and I noticed they had UNK on there 9 times for January 1, 2014. (obviously placeholders for the B1G schedule, but I thought it was funny) Yes, I had the same thing. Talk about watering down the schedule:)
-
I was getting anxious because I haven't received anything re: season ticket renewals, so I logged in on Huskers.com. They had my season ticket invoice out there, plus here is the non-conference schedule home games. This, along with the conference games should be all of them, because we are getting billed for 17 games. A lot of games against teams from the Southeast. Mon, Nov 4 UNK Fri, Nov 8 Florida Gulf Coast Tue, Nov 12 Western Illinois Sun, Nov 17 So Carolina St Sat, Nov 30 Northern Illinois Wed, Dec 4 Miami, FL Sat, Dec 14 Arkansas St Sat, Dec 21 The Citadel

UMass is another school that we've never played before. I like it.

That was a pretty cruel title there, CWG. Can't help but be a little cautious about getting my hopes up with Webster until we hear from the clearinghouse.

Huskers hire Teddy Owens as Administrative Coordinator
HuskerCager replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
The nostalgic part of me likes this hire. I'm old enough to have attended some of those 7 games he coached here. Unfortunately, I missed the half court shot by Bobby Moore to beat KU in '79, Pretty sure you are right, HuskerBB, that Kellogg played for Ted Owens as a freshman. -
This has me more excited than any recruit TM has signed so far. Hopefully Hunter and his family take a liking to Lincoln. This hire kind of reminds me of Danny's hire of Jimmy Williams from Minnesota. I'm hoping it pays off the same type of dividends anyway.

Tranquility Base here. The Eagles has landed...
HuskerCager replied to cipsucks's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
So, Cip, which Eagles song are you going to zone out on? -
Moe Iba was at TCU for six years.
