  1. Press conference link. It's funny to listen to Sid Hartman's questions (really comments) to the A.D. He forgot to put his journalist hat on before he came and instead seems to be offering the A.D. his own opinions. http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/video/8706712-web-extra-press-conference-on-tubby-smith-firing/
  2. If Doc can get axed by Nebraska and still land a Director of BB operations position at KU, what is the likelihood that a former UCLA coach is going to be the next Director of BB Operations at Nebraska? I would think Ben - if he wants to stay in the hoops business - will be capable of landing a much higher profile position than this one.
  3. Sometimes you just have to be you. Can you imagine Bill Snyder coming into a press conference with a bounce in his step, a broad smile and a bundle of self-depricating jokes? Just isn't his style, but IMO he's a miracle worker and has the full respect of those around him.
  4. OK, sorry, I see this is old news today and covered in the "fired coaches" thread.
  5. I'm a little surprised at this.... http://espn.go.com/chicago/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/9059284/northwestern-wildcats-fire-coach-bill-carmody
  6. It's been in the back of my mind the last couple of days that Miles might attract attention from other schools - even after just one year. But he's a family man. Hopefully the wife and kids love Lincoln by now. Think of how hard it would be on your kids to pull up stakes two consecutive years in a row. Not to mention the parents of both sides living in S.D.
  7. Duplicate post - nm
  8. Seems to me we have to sign better players than this. This guy seems to have a past injury problem with an ACL. On one hand, you could say that is a hidden blessing in that this might be why his SMU numbers were so low. On the other hand, it's clearly a risk in that maybe he's prone to a repeat injury. Personally, I would rather we leave an open scholarship for next year (regardless of whether we sign Atewe or not). Don't settle, coach! Your two predecessors have already proven that doesn't work with their lack of program success.
  9. True, Cip, but the Twin Cities' isn't exactly a stone's throw from Chadron either. I don't think distance was the driving factor in Elliot's decision.
  10. Yeah, the last thing this program needs is 6-10 freshman cluttering the court up with a 6-6 performance from the field. I'm glad Miles is responsible for our recruiting. There must have been something that this list of colleges saw in the lad that some of you don't see.
  11. Personally, I think Minnesota would be nuts if they let Tubby go.
  12. I don't see anything in Miles' contract that makes it "impossible" for him to be lured away to another school tomorrow. $1M is chump change for BCS programs. http://dataomaha.com/documents/tim-miles-contract
  13. http://www.kvrr.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19043&Itemid=58#video I got to thinking about this yesterday. Imagine if T.O. would have hired another coach last spring. You would have to think Miles would still be a CSU Ram. As a sixth-year CSU coach, Miles could have easily had a 24-25 game winner on his resume by the end of the year. It will be interesting to see what high profile programs will have coaching vacancies next month. And you would think with the stellar season the Rams are having, T.M. could have easily ended up at a higher profile program than Nebraska in 2013. I'm glad he's in Lincoln.
  14. That PPG average is on track to be our worst since 1958. Still, if we don't win another game this year, they've slightly exceeded my expectations.
  15. Nice way to kill a Sunday afternoon - thanks Scott.
  16. Shields just seems to be a very mature freshman. He held us together early in the 2nd half. Too bad Gallegos had such an off night. So, I just noticed we have scored 70 points in just 3 games this year. Not sure we're going to get another one this year. The last time we had just 3 - 70 point games in a season? 1958.
  17. Eh....Next time, I think they should bring in the Shim Shams to do those acrobatic moves.
  18. I think the players are working just fine. Maybe those questions he is asking need to be directed toward recruiting. It looks to me like he's had an OK start, but it will be interesting to see if the level of players we SIGN by next fall move up a notch from prior classes.
  19. I see Eliason on the sidelines. Isn't he playing much this year? Figures. We have a propensity to send our players to schools at other states, so they can warm the bench while the other team waxes us.
  20. Good observation, Norm. 1972-73 was the last time we had a losing season (4-5) in Lincoln. That was a very young team (Fort was a freshman). Interesting that Cip (the late Cip, not our Cip) would have chosen to play Kentucky, No Carolina, etc on the road with such inexperience. They had only two non-conference home games that year against No Texas St and TCU.
  21. Agree that USC is not the same without Kugler. He was pretty entertaining. I miss his "Dolphin Conspiracy" rants. I suppose BTN wouldn't allow him to go off on that tangent during a game. They'd probably lock him up.
  22. All I can say is, Ubel is my hero! He showed tremendous composure on what was at best a questionable call, then nails 2 free throws and a blocked shot in the last 15 seconds. He didn’t pout or get upset. He was incredibly focused and was a ROCK. Oh yeah, and Shavon was something really special today. I hope Gallegos and Talley are ready to carry us next Tuesday, because Illinois going to be on Shields like flypaper after watching this week’s film. Today was pretty remarkable. That performance wasn’t just about Shavon stepping up. It was about teammates and coaches recognizing his talent and making sure he got the ball.
  23. Those are some mighty big shoes to fill...but yeah, he's off to a good start. He keeps it up he'll go down as one of the greats at NU. It's going to be interesting to see how consistent his scoring is the rest of the way. It's easy to forget this guy is a freshman that is at least a month behind the others because of his elbow injury. He's coming on strong.
