New PF/C offer 6'9'' David Wacker out of TX
HuskerCager replied to TheKamdyMan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Looks like his dad is the HS coach, with a nice career as a Longhorn BB player and a coach at several venues. His grandfather is former Minnesota and TCU head football coach Jim Wacker. Jim had a Nebraska connection as a football coach at Concordia-Seward back in the 60's. http://www.kens5.com/community/blogs/featured-blogs/Judsons-Wacker-turned-to-coaching-after-knee-injury-dashed-NBA-dreams-187253461.html http://www.txstate.edu/news/news_releases/news_archive/2003/08/wackerremem082603.html Just an uninformed hunch, but something tells me this guy is going to be wearing a Husker uniform a year from now. -
Miles really seems to like the state of Texas. I wasn't expecting that when he came here.
-
Well, it's not a trap game, exactly since they went to the Sweet 16 last year. Still, I'm a little disappointed we don't have a BCS opponent to cristen the Arena.
-
I'm not sure Menke's scholarship was pulled, so much as it was promised to him for one year, right? We've done that before.
-
It doesn't seem like we are enjoying that schnapps in moderation anymore.

Asst. Coach Ben Johnson to Minnesota
HuskerCager replied to joshvanklomp's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This program already has one arm tied behind it's back when it comes to recruiting. We need someone with solid D1 recruiting experience. If I were TM, I would ask myself what area of the country he needs to bolster his recruiting, given his staff (sans Johnson), then go find an assistant from a mid major school who has demonstrated he can recruit that part of the country. -
The state outline is back!
HuskerCager replied to BrasketballIfYouNeedThem's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I like it. Light on the paint, yet a two-tone background to highlight the state outline and 3 point range. Perfect. -
These rankings are interesting. What especially caught my eye was who was in positions 11 and 12, and who weren't there. http://btn.com/2013/04/09/power-rankings-super-early-first-look-at-2013-14/

Who do you want to open up PBA with?
HuskerCager replied to seaofred92's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned Oregon as a possibility. Do we have a 2 year or 4 year home-home signed with them? And as for the exhibition - Concordia is the only in-state NAIA school left that we haven't played. -
I like Miles' comment about reflecting and looking at what they need to do different to be competitive in the Big Ten. I know a staff ought to be doing that every year. Let's hope they tweak the right things.

Huskers playing in Grant Hall in 1911-12
HuskerCager replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This is a really cool picture. The Coliseum (otherwise known as the "Old Barn") must have seemed like a palace when they moved out of this place. -
Josh Davis - Possible Tulane Transfer
HuskerCager replied to doc1394's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
What am I missing here. Wouldn't he have to sit out a year? -
Why he wouldn't leave: - Having to uproot his family 2 times in 2 years - Better facilities at NU - Does the Minnesota A.D. know what he is doing up there?? Why he would leave: - Superior H.S. talent within 100 miles of the Twin Cities - Historically, much easier to win in Minneapolis than Lincoln In the end, I think this is a job he would have taken a year ago, but I don't think he would now.
-
No one has contacted him as far as we know. But you want to have a guy in your program that other people want.
-
It's just talk, but this is the first time I've seen Miles' name and the Gopher program linked in print: http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/200930381.html

New Texas Tech Coach. And the winner is.........
HuskerCager replied to Mr. Red's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Well, congrats Tubby. I just think Norwood Teague pulled a Steve Pedersen last week up at Minnesota. But as for the job in Lubbock, would anyone here agree with me that Tubby could have held out for a better opportunity 400 miles west in Albuquerque? -
None taken, NU. My point is, we've signed - who - Fuller, Webster and Hawkins this year, Petteway, Pitchford, Vooch and Biggs last year. Throw in Shields and Parker, plus the 3 players that didn't come last year, Coleman, Alihodzic and Young. OK, how do the best players from that group compare with the best we signed the prior 12 years? Can we say any of them rise above Maric, Dagundaro, Nate Johnson, etc? Too early to say on the incoming players obviously. My hunch is they are on par, but not above what we signed in the past. It's early, right? If this staff is Big Ten caliber, I would expect those muscles to start flexing with their third recruiting class, which should start next summer. And this is why I almost hope we don't sign 2 marginal JUCOs this spring so we have 3 open scholarships for the fall.

You don't have to do much surfing to find this guy has been in trouble with authorities on multiple counts. It is also interesting that his announcement to transfer was last October, but I find little about him online since then (maybe that's a good thing). You have to wonder what he has been up to the last 6 months.
-
I'm hoping that Minny botches this coaching hire up big time, and Miles can slip in and steal away a good player or two this summer from up North.
-
I just hope Miles and his staff take a really hard look at both and not take anyone unless they really believe they are going to improve our roster. I have my doubts, especially with Smith. Seems like a poor-man's Q.H.C. I would hope the staff is recruiting their butts off for 2014, but it does no good if you have only 1 scholarship to give next year.
-
I've always had doubts. Not because I think Miles and his staff are inept. This has just become a very hard program to resurrect (funny that word would come to mind today!). Hmmm... maybe it's possible after all. Seriously, the scary thing is it's almost impossible to detect a difference in what we have signed post-facility upgrades vs. pre-upgrades. I know, it's still early - it really is. In 4 years, we'll know how good Fuller and Webster are, but right now, we'll just have to wait.

Matthew Atewe -> Auburn -> Washington
HuskerCager replied to TheKamdyMan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
That's hardly a source of comfort for me. So what that means, basically, is we can't even pull in a marginal player. -
Matthew Atewe -> Auburn -> Washington
HuskerCager replied to TheKamdyMan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I can't fault the staff for this, I'm sure they worked very hard on recruiting Matthew. But allow me to sulk for just a few minutes.... With all that we've done - new arena, new basketball facility, an engaging coach, etc. - and we can't even land a decent (what, 3 star categoy?) center. Especially when the competition has been the likes of Auburn, Nevada and Charlotte??? Well, you have to wonder if this program is ever going to get on the sunny side of the conference ladder ever again. -
We have as many 3's, 4's and 5's in Nebraska too.... on a scale of 1-10.
