  1. IDK, with as much as Miles has talked about our struggles to get to the line, that could be a place where that starts to happen. Gallegos isn't anything special from the three. Occasionally, he'll light it up, and he should be quick enough to get to the rim off the bounce, but if getting to the line is a focus for Miles, I could see someone like Petteway taking minutes from Gallegos if he can give him that. I think there will be many times where they're both on the floor. That's a tangible area where Gallegos can improve during the offseason. When on the break, don't pull up, take it to the rim.
  2. Lots of guys dont do well as freshmen that go on to have big careers. Jared Berggren at Wisconsin averaged 1.2 and 2.4 points his first two years before blowing up last season. Some guys need an adjustment period from being the man to being a team player. They also have to adjust to strength and a tougher daily schedule. I think with a grooming year for Petteway and Pitchford i think you will see much better products than they were as freshmen elsewhere. Yea. I just didn't think it made sense to move our leading scorer (Gallegos) to the bench in favor of Petteway. If Petteway's better than Gallegos, then he should be starting over him. We just have no way of knowing that at this point.
  3. Neither did Pitchford, for that matter and Webster has even less experience at this level than either of those two. The best five will work itself out. We've even see that happen this season. As the season has progressed, the best five, as health has allowed, have found their way onto the floor. The rotation will start big and contract and work itself down by the time we get to conference play. By then, we should know who the best five are and that's who will start. Pitchford played on a much better team than Petteway, and Pitchford had a lot better college offers than Petteway. I'm not saying Petteway won't start, but I don't think you can put him ahead of Fuller and Rivers right now. Webster scored 21 points in 24 minutes in an olympic qualifier game at age 17. I would say that is enough to put him ahead of Biggs and Parker. I don't think you can assume it. It's possible, probable, perhaps, but until he gets here and we see how he fits the system and adapts to this level and style of play, because the style of play in the Big Ten is strikingly different from the international game, you can't assume he will be. That leads to a bunch of disappointment based on premature conclusions. We're making assumptions on Webster based on a couple of games. I'm excited for the kid and think he'll be very good, but we're making assumptions to that end on about the same amount of info that we're making the assumptions that Shields will the next big thing. The thing between Petteway and Pitchford is that Petteway did actually play, 13 mins a game, in a big boy conference and held his own. That's a lot more to go off of than who Pitchford was offered by out of high school.

  5. Don't see it going ten deep. Think it'll be closer to 8 or 9. If we start going ten deep, I'd expect us to run a lot more.
  6. What are you defining as a "difference maker"?
  7. I wonder how much of this will take care of itself in the new arena, with the removal of the tying hoops to football donations. Not sure how much of that will carry over. Might bear watching. Or perhaps they'll all move over to he new arena. IDK.
  8. I don't know what was happening in that video, but I find it odd that they have these fully grown brutes battling it out on the field and middle school children officiating. That seems bizarre.
  9. Nah, gotta find a winner. Winner gets a couple of Cookies. Ah, forget it, it might be a bit Maric.
  10. This could be fun as long as it doesn't be come a contest to who has the biggest Johnson or Conklin. We all want to remain Ffriends.
  11. The description of the video says it's an open run at a community center. Would be nice if there's some actual game footage of him out there.
  12. Well, McDermott was 6'7" 185 coming out of HS and was coming off the bench his JR year.
  13. Could be re: Moore and Hilliard, I don't recall. But for the recruits, I don't think he can just say, "See ya" if they've already signed, can he? I know there's wiggle room for changes to be made when a coaching change happens, but I don't think the coach can just tell a kid to get a move on if he's already signed. Maybe he can, or at least make strong implications that he might not be a great fit for the direction of the program.
  14. Well, no, because they had all signed already. He did release three guys, but I don't think he said, sorry, SOL. I'd imagine it was more like here's what we're going to do, do you want to stick around or not. Story was he couldn't get ahold of Fahro to talk to him. I think he kicked Josiah Moore off the team after some legal problems, perhaps? He did release Coleman and Young. I don't know the story behind those guys or why. If they were loyal to Doc or they didn't think they'd fit Miles system, that happens. But it seems like typically coaches let signed commits remain committed if they want to.
  15. nm
  16. That's pretty typical of new coaches isn't it?
  17. Didn't Parker commit under Doc?
  18. You know whose measurables those are similar too? Their games are similar too...
  19. Currently sitting at 110 points and 68 rebs.
  20. I'd like to see more situational full court pressure, not for 40 minutes like you see from Altman coached teams or Connie Yori's squad, but a change of pace where we slap on some full court trapping stuff for a couple of possessions. Probably can't see much of it this year but in the next couple as we get deeper, perhaps...
  21. Couple things work in Parkers favor, though. First, he should be healthy by then, he's not now. Plus, he'll be the only true point guard on the team. Gallegos, Webster and Biggs all are more suited for the 2 spot. There will be minutes for Parker if he can get the team into and out of the offense. Don't need a true point if you have multiple combo guards. I don't think Parker is good enough unfortunately for this level of play. You have got to have perimiter guys on the court that are threats to score. And that may be what happens. You also don't need a scorer at the point of the other four can score. All he has to do is get the ball where it needs to be. He doesn't have to score a bunch, but he has to hit enough shots to keep the defense honest. That's any PG. If he can get to the rim on occasion when he gets back healthy, that should be enough.
  22. I'd love to have a coach here have the opportunity to find out.
  23. They're not showing up for me, 49r.
