Matthew Atewe -> Auburn -> Washington
uneblinstu replied to TheKamdyMan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
He said he's going to take all five visits. Let him go and see what those schools offer isn't as great as what NU has. -
The change from Pepsi to Coke would be more difficult because Pepsi contributes a pretty significant figure to fund research grants to students. I know a big portion of the UCARE program is funded through Pepsi money and I'm sure there are other academic places on campuses that Pepsi dollars are apportioned to. I've always understood Coke was not willing to make similar contributions. I could be wrong about that last part or perhaps things have changed, but until it does, Pepsi is it for NU. I'm not sure if Adidas contributes to the academic mission of the university or not, but if they do, it could certainly be a deciding factor in whether or not a change is made. It's a decision that goes well beyond North Stadium.

Well, unless it turns out we jump back in on this kid, I'm shutting this one down before it even had a chance to get started...

uneblinstu's post game chatter: ed 3, vol 16 - Michigan
uneblinstu replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Nudiehard, Miles owned #4 in his post game. Realized he probably should have played him more. I expect we'll see him more on Sunday. We could use his rebounding. He also caused Michigan fits at the rim because they just couldn't get around him. -

Dave used the official box provided by Michigan. I think it includes team rebounds and such that I don't think ESPN captures in their PBP and boxes. -

Let's revisit the rebounding box. The Huskers were holding their own most of the game up until they failed to check Robinson when he came in on the dunk off the rebound. From there they out rebounded us 12-2. That changes things a bit as Michigan got a lot of opportunities while we're trying to rally late and Mighigan is at the free throw line the whole time. NU's going to be rebounding challenged all year, especially when AA's only gets 10 minutes of playing time. -

5 guys played 32 minutes or more. Yikes. -
- Shields is a spark plug for this team right now. Love how he plays on both ends. Finishes at the rim, cleans up on the glass. - This team played with a different mentality than they played with in Columbus. Glad they took that lesson to heart so far. - Not many figured NU would have a chance in this one *raises hand*, but at the half, NU only down five. I think anyone in red would take that. - Thought the charge on Parker early should have counted. He released the ball before the contact. Was fine with the foul, but the shot should have counted. - Good to see Andre back. He seemed to cause issues for Michigan. Would have liked to have seen him get the ball and see if he could get position. - NU doing a nice job of taking care of the ball, which keeps that Michigan transition in check. - Huskers still need to do a better job of getting to the line. - Huskers just grinding away in the second half. - Two quick shots for NU with the opportunity to cut the lead to five let Michigan build the lead back to five. They weren't terrible shots, but they weren't what NU needed to stay in the game. - NU doing nearly everything it can to stay in this game. - NU did a fairly good job of making good decisions right up until Talley's turnover leading to Robinson's dunk. - NU did a really good job of finding their man on rebounds until that Robinson dunk. - Gotta be impressed with NU's resiliency in this one. They're just hanging around all night. - Couple better decisions. Couple loose balls go NU's way. Things might have been different. - Love that NU didn't assume defeat here, bodes well for the future. - Five minutes into the half, Michigan was in the bonus. Five minutes to go in the 2nd half, NU had been called for 10 fouls, Michigan only 3. Speaks to a bunch of the things, but the mentality of the two is a big one. NU has to do a better job of getting to the line. - Parker had an impossible assignment tonight. - If NU takes on every challenge like this, they'll win some games. You guys take it from here. 24 point underdogs at michigan...
uneblinstu replied to FredsSlacks's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
No Peltz, though. Might be out for the year. -
Vucetic
-
If Ubes is taking 3s, we're in trouble. Maybe he has that stroke back from his freshman year. Until he can do it a few more times I'd rather see Peltz taking 3s because he won't be guarded anyway. The threat of him hitting shots out there is big though.
-
I could see Webster being that guy. I don't know that if I see all 3 getting that many minutes. If we get Atewe I could possibly see him getting those minutes.
-
You're probably right on that. I don't necessarilly see the incoming freshman coming in and getting huge minutes right off the bat. Webster, maybe, if he's the guy he's been built up to be.
-
The more I look at this, unless we get a JUCO big or perhaps even Atewe, we're gonna have to go small at times. We could look a lot like Wisconsin in the sense that you've got 4 to 5 guys who can step out and hit the 3 at times. It won't be all the time, but it could be a fair amount. If that's the case, it's very likely that we'll see scenarios with Parker, Biggs, Gallegos and Webster (or pick a bunch of other guys that could fit in there) on the floor at the same time. I don't think that's out of the question at all.
-
uneblinstu, as I look at this, I'm wondering what kind of lineups you foresee us putting on the floor. I take it you must see us going small a lot next year (depending, of course, on whether we add any more recruits to this class.) There are really only a limited number of bigs and we're really stretching including Rivers as one of them because he's so skinny. But that's where he's been playing and he's long and you play the players that you have. But you've allocated only 22 minutes to our 6'10" guy and only 71 minutes total to guys who are 6'7" or taller. You have Parker, Biggs, Webster and Gallegos -- all of whom are 6'3" or shorter -- playing a combined 99 minutes. Those 4 would get almost half the total minutes on the team under your scenario. Given your distribution of minutes, those 4 would have to be on the court at the same time at least periodically. I just don't see that happening. I think if Biggs plays big minutes, it will come at the expense of Parker. And vice versa. The more likely scenario in my opinion is that Webster gets the minutes and Biggs and Parker spell him at the point in some distribution of whatever point guard minutes are left. And Webster might slide over to the 2 from time to time so Benny and Dev might pick up an extra minute or two from that as well. But I sure don't think we'll see a combined 49 minutes from Parker and Biggs. I don't see us going as short as you seem to think we will. I think Pitchford, by default, is going to get fairly solid minutes. And, with the departure of Ubel and Almeida, I don't think Rivers' and Shields' minutes are going to go down. But you have them both getting fewer minutes next year and Parker getting more, even though there will be more competition at the guard spots. It's a total crap shoot at this point. I think two of them will be on the floor at all times. I don't see Gallegos leaving the floor much next year. How does that impact the distribution of minutes? I have no idea. I think we're going to have to go fairly small out of necessity because I don't think we're going to be very deep at the post. I didn't think about it that deeply.
-
Can't see Fuller and Hawkins both getting that many minutes next year. Parker and Biggs will play more than that. This is tough to do not knowing who's actually going to be on the roster. Initial guess would look like this: Gallegos - 34 Rivers - 18 Biggs - 21 Pitchford - 22 Pettaway - 22 Shields - 21 Parker - 28 Vucetic - 0 Webster - 24 Fuller - 10 Hawkins - RS

This makes me very happy. I wonder about his planned commit date. He may want to reconsider waiting, more and more teams are less likely to wait. (including the Huskers) He may not wait to commit, but I bet he waits to make it public. -
