That's assuming a Nebraska fan or two or a thousand haven't already gotten to him first! -

Ok, serious question. If we are selected, does Lunardi's head explode and if so, does the tupee fly off? -
I just realized we lose an hour tonight and I have never been more grateful to spring forward and lose an hour. One less hour to agonize over our fate.

Yes, Miles is hosting a private event for the team at his house.

Hell Yes...a hearty welcome to Mr. Davis and another recruiting win for Miles. I hope this news is a prelude to the icing on the cake tomorrow afternoon! -

Yes, I believe this will put them firmly in if they hold on. You talk about a statement and sadly this is what us and every other bubble team that flamed out early in the conference tournaments is wishing they could have done. Games not over yet so I haven't given up hope. -
Ok, my gut tells me we're a 2 seed in the NIT. My head tells me we are likely out. My heart has us and me in Dayton, literally, as I've already researched flights. I woke up feeling lousy about our chances after hearing Lunardi eviscerate us on a few different media forums yesterday. Not that Lunardi is the end all, be all but his and Palm's and all other bracketologists tired and repetitive narrative does beat down even the most optimistic Nebraska fan, which typically I am. I rarely win bets as my online sportsbook account will attest to. I hardly ever bet on my own teams as it's impossible, for me at least, to peel away the emotion. With that being said, after Nebraska had reeled off 8 straight against the spread and something along the lines of 16 out of the last 17, I decided to put a wager on the Illinois game and took Nebraska as a very small favorite. We know how that turned out. So to turn the tide and to make myself feel marginally better, I donated $10 this morning. I figured that since I don't win bets that I might as well get out in front of my loss when Nebraska does make the tournament. Psychologically I now feel better. I definitely need some sort of long term medication but I do feel better.

Meh, I don't know. I'm not sure you can call it anything but speculation. Each kid beats to their own drum so to assume that just because JPJ had a great year or Copeland is older and assume their gone is just wild speculation. I'm sure a lot of people would love to go back and have the college experience again so I don't think it's any guarantee that JPJ or Copeland give this up as quickly as you presume. Plus, neither of these guys are bonafide picks for the NBA (Copeland certainly isn't), so what makes any of us so sure that these guys really want to go play overseas just to earn a paycheck. They are getting free room, board, basketball and the coed experience - this isn't easy for all to just give up. I have to imagine they both have the goal of getting to the NBA and there aren't a lot of examples I can think of where college kids don't get drafted, go play overseas and then come back to the NBA. And, living overseas isn't for everyone. I lean towards them coming back and trying to improve their draft stock. But, what I know more than anything, is I'm not going to give two shits about this again while the season is still going as this is still one hell of a ride to enjoy. I have no doubt I'll be thinking about this again at some point but not any further for me right now!!!

Selection Committee Games of Interest

Arizona State lost again today. After crapping the bed down the stretch in the regular season and losing to CU yesterday, they got to watch CU get drilled by Arizona. Not a good look for them but it certainly makes me smile. The committee can hem and haw how they don't look at conference records but I don't think there is anyway they take an 8-10 team from a very mediocre Pac-12 conference that lost as many games as they did over the final several weeks. -

Is this the NBA??? I know they don't call traveling in the NBA but holy cow that Providence guy fumbled the ball for several steps. -

I know this is likely a little contrarian but I'm mildly rooting against St. Johns and Boston College today. The selection committee is in Day 2 of their meetings and I can't imagine a slot or two movement in any of these metrics is going to move the needle at this point. At this point, I would prefer to see all of these potential bid thieves leave their tournaments as quickly as possible, unless they are playing a very bubbly team. BC and St Johns are playing teams firmly in the field so I'm ok with them bowing out at this point and alleviating additional indigestion over the next few days. -
Nebraska on the Selection Committee Board
Nebrasketball1979 replied to hhctony's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This is interesting. This guy is basically the Director of Media Relations for the NCAA Tournament. If I'm reading correctly what he is saying below, Nebraska is among 33 teams competing for the last 8 spots in the tournament. Put on your lucky socks and underwear and don't take them off until Sunday night! -

It will be glorious when Baylor, Texas, UCLA, Louisville and all of the first four out teams lose today. Oregon State beating USC would be a nice bonus as well and maybe Creighton will throw us a bone against Providence but I'm not counting on that. Man, almost all of these teams can and perhaps should lose today. Of course, Lunardi won't budge us at all after this but it is still going to be a fun day today and the bubble chaos that ensues!!! Here is to total anarchy and chaos today!!!!! -

Team Rankings has us up to an 84% chance today to make the tournament. I know this hasn't been the most reliable predictor in the past but I do like the continued upward movement. This is easily my favorite bracketology site, for obvious reasons. https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/team/nebraska-cornhuskers/bracketology -

It is staggering that Az St. is on the verge of playing themselves out of the tournament. They were ranked 2nd early in the year and receiving a decent amount of #1 votes. BUT...to finish 8-10 in a conference that is farther down than the BIG (at least this is what I'm told by the "experts") and to lose to the crap teams they have lost to along with a 1st round exit against a "meh" Colorado....well, I'm sorry, this team doesn't deserve to get in over us or most bubble teams for that matter. Stick the Sun Devil fork in them - they are toast. -
2018-19 Husker opponents

I think Miles tips his hand on who we are playing in the Hall of Fame Classic. These matchups are usually lobbied for and negotiated ahead of time. If you listen around the 5:40 mark, Miles specifically and only mentions Chris Beard and the outstanding team he has. He makes no mention of USC, another solid team and would-be marquee matchup, or Misery St. I may be reading too much into this but I think this is pretty telling. -
A good cause and perhaps will bring good karma!!! Count me N.

Michigan (25-7) vs. Nebraska (22-9) game thread

I would say bad defense as well. No easy opportunities off of transition defense because those have been very limited. -

That's crazy talk, Louisville doesn't have Nebraska on the front of their jersey. They will slide up to an 8 seed. -

Not sure what is more torturous...subjecting yourself to watching Marist or losing an over/under in an OVC game -

Louisville with an epic end of game meltdown. Louisville hits a free throw to go up 4 with 6 seconds left. Virginia drives the ball hard and shoots a desperation 3 but the Louisville defender was playing tight and inexplicably fouled with 0.9 left. Virginia makes first 2 free throws, misses the third but the refs rule a lane violation against Virginia for going in the lane too early. Louisville ball with 0.9 left and all they have to do is inbound the ball. Hell, just throw it up to the other half of the court. Instead, the Louisville player runs the baseline, only to be whistled for a travel as you can't run the baseline after the lane infraction. Apparently the ref instructed the Louisville player before the inbounds that he couldn't move. Virginia gets the ball and banks in a 25 footer from the left wing. Ballgame!!! -

OMG....LOUISVILLE WITH AN EPIC END OF GAME MELTDOWN. MUST SEE TV!!! -
What a giant trolling dbag. So, if Iowa wins, we were automatically eliminated from the NCAA tournament. That is just absurd.
-
Besides the obvious with how well Iowa played in the first half, they have a great chance to hold off Michigan due to Wolverine foul trouble. Wagner, Rahkman, and Robinson all with 2 fouls. All of them will likely play slightly less aggressive, especially if you can saddle them with a quick 3rd to start the 2nd half.
