Nebraska (7-1) vs. Minnesota (6-2) Game thread

The second half refs are waaaay better than those clowns from the first half ?. When you are more aggressive, you get calls! -

I love whatever Miles said at the half. We have much more attitude and energy. -

I remember when we were almost always the lesser talented team and we would make a run against the better team to grab a lead. Then the better team reasserted themselves and you knew the chances of an upset were slim. It sure feels like we are wearing that shoe on the other foot this year. We turned that 4 point deficit around very quickly. -

Holy Heiman...he is going to be a good one. All I heard leading into the game is how Minnesota struggles against the zone so I am really surprised we didn't deploy that more. Likely more in the second half I suspect. -

Hooray...we got the Roby "who realizes how good he can be" tonight!!! It would be awesome to see the core four all click for a full 40 minutes to see how lethal we can be. -
AP poll just released and we are rightfully ranked (#24)...still a little low for me but beggars can't be choosers. https://collegebasketball.ap.org/poll

2018 B1G-ACC Challenge Schedule
Nebrasketball1979 replied to throwback's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Purdue completely peed down their legs while the refs pooed down their legs. Some awful calls and no-calls. They say a tie is like kissing your sister. I don't have a sister, but if you do, let me know so I can test this theory. ? -

How can he make that call...the players backs were facing him. Oh, well, I understand how Teddy can make that call. -

Purdue has the market cornered on goofy white guys. Completely agree about Harms running. I would say he looks like a baby giraffe bur that's insulting to giraffes. Boudreaux looks like he is 40 and woke up from a 20 year bender. -
My opinion is that Thomas was just too big and strong. There were several imstancea that he just bullied and backed Roby down, even when Clemson wasn't able to get him the ball. The biggest fault I would find is not in Roby's defense but in Nebraska not giving Roby any help on defense. We are quick and athletic enough to double occasionally in the post and then recover on the perimeter. It's definitely a pick your poison approach but I would rather risk giving up an extra 3 here and there over Roby getting into quick foul trouble, then playing tentative while also being limited to only 18 minutes a game.

Wow, great, great win which will almost certainly be a tier 1 win. The last 3-4 minutes of the first half were brutal and I thought that would come back to haunt us when we had three straight cracks to extend a 4 point lead but couldn't. Similarly, there was a stretch in the second half where we had four straight chances to extend a four point lead and failed. We finally got over that hump but then almost threw the game away at the end. Ah, the life of a tortured Nebraksetball fan but only this time our hearts weren't ripped out. This year feels different. A few other observations...Borchardt gave us good minutes again. He had some critical rebounds and was just active. I was yelling at my tv for Miles to use a timeout before Copelands turnover and then after their bucket. Then Watson almost got trapped and I thought I was going to lose it. Anyways, on to Illinois and a 1-0 start in Big play.

This makes a lot of sense. For as awful as the shot tracking display was on my tv during the hall of fame tournament, the small sample size did show that when Nebraska made more than 5-6 passes in a possession, their shooting percentage was close to 70% if I recall. I'm fairly certain there is a positive and strong correlation between number of passes in a possession and effective FG %, so I really hope we learned a bit of a lesson against Texas Tech and focus on ball movement tonight.

Texas Tech (4-0) vs. Nebraska (4-0) Game Thread

I think we just need to relax. It's a long season and a bump in the road is to be expected. Let me ask you this..."WHAT IS OVER WHEN THE GERMANS BOMBED PEARL HARBOR". HELL NO AND IT AINT OVER NOW" Take a deep breath. That game sucked but hopefully a much needed wake up call that you can't fall in love with jumpers with no movement on offense. That illustration at the end of the game where they showed how hard Tech was moving and cutting to the basket was a thing of beauty and hopefully we took note! -

That sounds out of this world. My apologies for an awful joke. -
Agree and I think for strength of schedule/RPI purposes playing Texas Tech is far better than USC. The Pac 12 is going to be down this year and I don't think the metrics will be kind to a middle of the pack Pac-12 team. Playing Texas Tech on a neutral court will very likely count as a Quad 1 game (win!) at the end of the year as Texas Tech's RPI will likely be somewhere between 1-49.

Here's to hoping that Tech and USC play five overtimes!!! Solid win tonight. Thought Palmer really played within himself in the 2nd half. He clearly has some mechanics to tweak on his 3 point shot and I am pretty sure he didn't chuck.up a three over the final 10 minutes or so. He did a good job of facilitating in the 2nd half knowing he wasn't shooting good. I think that mentality can help dispel the notion that he is going to be a me first player and try to get his to the detriment of the team. He showed a lot of maturity to me tonight. I love this team.

Game Day Essentials: Game #4 vs Missouri St
Nebrasketball1979 replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Visited KC a few years back for a football game and we asked several locals about the best BBQ joint. We had several recommendations for both Gates and a place called Q39. We tried both while we were there and for my money, Q39 was some of the best BBQ I've ever had. It's a little pricier that Gates but it was well worth it. The meat fell off the bones and the sauce was awesome. https://q39kc.com/ -
