Hopefully the 48 hour freakout is over!!! When one streak ends, a new one us destined to begin. Let's rip off another 6 or heck, might as well end this thing with a 11 game winning streak! -

Seems like over the past two games we are playing much more outside-in than inside-out. We have fallen in love with the three and have seemingly forgot we are not great at shooting the three. -

Miami appears to be around a 9 or 10 seed depending on where you look and if Notre Dame is knocking on the door of the bubble and brackets, I would rather see them just go quietly away from an already crowded bubble. I just think Miami was pretty solidly in barring a collapse but if ND would have won, I would have been all aboard the Miami collapse train! -

Need to take away the lobs as those are just defensive breakdowns which can be fixed. The desperation heaves will hopefully self correct in the 2nd half. -

Nebraska has done a good job all year with halftime adjustments. They need to throw the kitchen sink at it this time. -

Defensive intensity has really picked up. That bodes well for ending this half strong. -

I feel like a giant waffler on the topic of whether we want the likes of Michigan and Penn St. to keep winning. With Michigan, if they beat Ohio St on Sunday, then I will pull for them to win out and have their RPI move into the Top 30. if they lose to Ohio St., then to hell with them and they can lose out as far as I'm concerned. As @royalfan and several of us have debated exhaustively, if Michigan loses out, that puts them firmly on the bubble and then we would certainly be competing against them and a handful of other school for a finite number of spots in the dance. Having them win 1 or 2 more games while also losing 1 or 2 more games does nothing for us as it would prevent Michigan from reaching a Top 30 spot in the RPI while also allowing them to lock down a spot in the tourney and make one less available for the other bubble teams to grab. Penn St. is a huge conundrum. As they have jumped to #74 in the RPI, our loss to them on the road is now another Quadrant 1 loss and moves us to 0-7 in that Quadrant, which is obviously an eyesore. On the flip side, we are 4-1 in Quadrant 2 and still don't have a loss against Q3 or Q4, which most bubble teams can't claim. So, back to Penn St....they have two Q1 wins, already own a victory over us, and close out playing at Purdue, vs. Michigan, and against us to close out the year. The scheduling gods did them a favor as they are super hot, entering the bubble mix and national conversation, and also have a distinct opportunity to vault themselves past us in the conversation prior to their final home game against us. Think about it, if Penn St. runs off a 3 game stretch where they beat Ohio St, go to Purdue and win, and then beat Michigan, is there really any doubt they would have positioned themselves better than we have heading into next Sunday? That would put them at 21-9 with 3 Q1 wins (2 on the road) and a win at home against the same Michigan team we beat. I think that would trump our better record. To put the icing on the cake here, even if Penn St. wins the next 2 games, their RPI still won't be high enough coming into the final game against us to have it qualify as a Q1 win for us. So, what I'm trying to say, is that I am not going to be rooting for Penn St. against Purdue or Michigan because we have more to lose with Penn St. coming in here super hot with all those glamorous wins than we gain by beating another Q2 team at home. AND....I really don't want to see Penn St. in the 5 seed where we would likely have to play them in back to back games. Sorry for rambling!!! -
99% Chance Our Name is Called if We Win out
Nebrasketball1979 replied to huskerbaseball13's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I agree the 72% is odd, however, he was not misquoted. One of the OWH guys was in the room during the luncheon and gave an interview on 93.7 yesterday afternoon. He confirmed that Boehm said this and Boehm also elaborated that the 1% could become a larger percentage if there are bid stealers from conference tournaments. I agree that the 72% sounds odd but I have zero doubt that he actually talked to someone on the committee and that the 99% is real. Boehm has no incentive to put out bad information as he has been around the block a long time and he understands the stakes.. I find it fascinating that there is this back channeling of information that actually became public. -

That is an interesting tool but I'm personally not sure I'm buying that our current tourney odds drop almost 2% if Stetson loses at home to Keenesaw St. To get really geeky, that is a nearly 2% absolute drop in our percentage but on a relative basis it is an almost 10% drop from their projection if Stetson were to win the game. -

Lunardi's latest update is up and this is his bubble To recap, on Lunardi's Monday update, Nebraska was behind Boise State as 2nd out. Now we are behind St. Bonaventure who jumped over us. You might wonder what St. Bonaventure did over the past three days? Well, they beat RPI #192, a 10-16 La Salle squad on the road. So, if I'm understanding correctly, Nebraska beats Maryland, an RPI top 70 team and another team on the bubble and we get jumped by St. Bonaventure. Um, ok. http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology -
Completely agree. This team has the look that they can accomplish very special things that has never been done by any Nebrasketball team before it. And, if you believe they need to get to 23 wins to go dancing, this may be one of the more important regular season games I can recall since the Nee teams as a loss could make getting to the dance and then doing damage in the dance very, very difficult. My bottom line is that a win against Penn St. (and assuming we take care of Illinois/Indiana) likely gives this team the opportunity to validate what most of us believe - this team can win games in the tournament and stamp itself as the best Nebrasketball team ever.

Agreed, but one thing I didn't realize until watching the game is that this was Providences' 6th Quadrant 1 win according to FS1. They are now 6-5 in those games. I can sort of understand now why they didn't fall too far after their embarrassing loss to Depaul. Even if Providence loses 3 or 4 of 5 to end the year, they are probably safety in the field. Va Tech losing was helpful and Nevada can really help our cause later tonight. -

Huge bubble games tonight and tomorrow night. I've been one of the ones arguing for Michigan to win but I think I'm beginning to migrate towards your thinking the later we get into the season. Their RPI is 39 and even if they go 3-1 down the stretch (say win vs Iowa, Ohio St and then split the two road games @PSU, @Maryland), I still am not convinced that does enough to get them into the RPI top 30. Then when you factor we would almost inevitably play them in the 4/5 game a win by us would certainly drop them below 30 in the RPI if they happen to sneak above it and hence the nonsensical nature of the quadrants. So, I guess this is where I'm at with Michigan. They either need to win out or either lose out or go 1-3 down the stretch. Having Michigan go 2-2 does absolutely nothing for us besides diminishing our win against them. A 3-1 Michigan finish likely doesn't move the needle one way or the other. Out of all the games, I think it's super important that Providence loses tonight as a win vs. Villanova almost certainly solidifies their case to be included and more than offsets the ugly loss to DePaul. I will also be pulling very hard against Boise St as they find themselves right on the cut line with us. -

This is an excellent article by Dirk Chatlain explaining why the RPI and specifically our strength of non conference scheduling numbers are bogus. Hopefully someone on the committee is bright enough to recognize, understand, and have meaningful discussions on this in the room!!! http://www.omaha.com/huskers/blogs/chatelain/mad-chatter-why-tim-miles-rpi-problem-is-a-hoax/article_1224d3c6-11a7-11e8-86b9-c3eba667942d.html And for the love of god, next year just schedule Chadron State instead of Deleware St -
Nebraska on the Selection Committee Board

I cannot find much to disagree with you here but my eyes tell me this is a tournament team, regardless of who we have beaten. Jon Crispin was on 93.7 this morning and had a great point that you shouldn't unduly punish a team for playing and losing tough games early on, then finding themselves mid season and really turning it on. I can only hope there is logic based discussion in the committee room because this current Nebraska team does not lose to UCF, Kansas or likely Creighton (I hesitate to put a St. John's team with a healthy Lovett in here). Someone needs to make the point that it took time to incorporate three transfers into the lineup and for Nebraska to become a cohesive team. If the goal of the committee is to get the best 36 at large teams into the tournament, then logic, eye test, and recent play would make Nebraska a no-doubter if they finish the season by winning their final 9 regular season games. -
Nebraska on the Selection Committee Board
Nebrasketball1979 replied to hhctony's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Of all the website I've looked at, the one below is my favorite because I think it more closely reflects reality. Right now, we are listed at a 46% probability of making the tournament. If we get to 23 wins that jumps to 80%, with 24 wins being a near lock. I think its safe to assume that even if we win out in the regular season, our RPI and most computer metrics will be somewhere between 45-50, which is still very bubbly as far as computer rankings. I agree with a lot of the sentiment here that its hard to trust the selection committee to put Nebraska in based off the eye test as I think they are in love with the faulty quadrant system. Hopefully I'm wrong on this but I do think getting to 23 wins is critical and unfortunately still no guarantee. https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/team/nebraska-cornhuskers/bracketology -
On the post game radio show, Miles told Kent that Kenya made the call/suggestion to get Palmer a quick blow. Tim said that Kenya thought it would be prudent to get him off his legs for a few minutes so that his legs were a little fresher at the end when shooting free throws to ice it. I am just really thankful the guys pulled this one out. if Nebraska would have lost this game, I would not have wanted to hear from the vocal minority how Miles is an awful game manager and how he should be fired for blowing this game and potentially not getting this team to the tourney.

I was ok with the non call there and actually thought the game was officiated fairly well. I hate refs handing out technicals when players express any sort of brief outbursts of emotion (i.e. Copeland dunk). I think the Maryland guy thought Watson trucked Cowan intentionally but he clearly didn't. There didn't appear to be much pushing and shoving and cooler heads prevailed. I'm glad they let them play the game out on the court. I thought we got the benefit of the doubt on a couple of fouls called against Huerter. Some of those were pretty suspect but hey, that's why you have a built in home court advantage and Roby has been the victim of several phantom fouls on the road!!!
