If Miles is Fired This Year
Nebrasketball1979 replied to cjbowbros's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
My fandom for Nebrasketball runs very deep and hiring the likes of a Pitino/Wright/Martin or anyone that appears to place winning above everything and all rules would have me seriously questioning my loyalty to the program and University. As many have said, in Timmy I trust and I fully expect Miles to be around for the long haul after we pick off multiple wins in the tournament and erect.a statue of him outside of PBA. When we beat Penn St. tomorrow and eventually pick off a high quality road win (it will happen, keep the faith), these non sensical conversations and debates on our next coach will hopefully end! -
If we can be patient for approximately another 36 hours, 23 minutes and 20 seconds, we should be able to exhale and regroup as a collective fanbase. Hopefully the number of pitchforks out and about drops as well.

I tried to wake up in a glass half full kind of mood today. Here is what I know: - The sun came up today despite my mood - This team clearly hasn't peaked yet or reached it's potential. I guess I'll trade a few conference games on the road that we should have won in December/January for playing our best basketball in March. - Most of us don't live in Iowa. For those that do, my apologies.

We're not going to win many games when Palmer/Watson/Allen/Copeland combine for 2-18 from 3 Pt range. Even if they shoot a below average 33%, we're at least in the game. Bad shooting nights happen and this is the problem with throwing away two other road games we should have closed out and won. We've dug a hole but this team will bounce back.

Nebraska (11-3) vs. Iowa (11-3) Game Thread
Nebrasketball1979 replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I said it before Maryland and I will say it again. This is not a "winnable" game, this is a game we should win, especially with a limited Garza, if he can even play. Good teams lose games on the road, there is no shame in that. Great trams make the plays necessary to win those games. It's time to take the step from good to great today. GBR and here's to seeing Fran Con 4 and beating Iowa! -

Nebraska (11-2) vs. Maryland (10-3) Game Thread

He fell asleep on the cut by Cowan but otherwise, Maryland is hitting tough, contested shots. This bodes well for us over the Long haul tonight. -
Nebraska (11-2) vs. Maryland (10-3) Game Thread
Nebrasketball1979 replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I would like to rant for a second so my apologies in advance. I have heard and read routinely that it "would be nice to win 1 out of the next 2" or that the expectation should be "to get 1 out of the next 2 on the road". That's the typical Nebrasketball mentality (mine included!) over the past 25 years. I'm sorry but the expectation should be to win tonight and then at Iowa. We have the better roster and team in both both of these games. When you have the goods and the team to back it up, then go out and beat inferior competition, regardless of where the game is played. That should be the expectation, at least in my opinion. Maryland is young and the stadium will be half full so go out and get a win you should get. Also, I could give two poop emoji's that Iowa is ranked. They rode a wave into the rankings by beating two vastly over-rated teams in UConn and Oregon in a beginning of season tournament. Iowa is not trash (and I wouldn't disrespect trash by calling them that) but they are not world beaters. When they go 7-13 or 8-12 in conference, I won't be shocked at all. These are not two winnable games, these are two games we should win. Rant over, beat Maryland....then beat Iowa like a drum. GBR! -

You are correct. Katz has been a huge Nebrasketball fan over the past year and a half which is why I agree with @The Polish Rifle and that Katz just forgot us this past week. In his prior poll, I believe Katz had us 26th or 27th so to drop us out after thumping CSF is nonsensical for all of the reasons laid out in previous posts. I'm sure next week he'll include us back in the poll after all the feedback he received and him doing a "re-evaluation" of our season to date!

HHCC Standings - End of Week 07
Nebrasketball1979 replied to HuskerFever's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Thanks... remember first place for me is one of my 3 great life accomplishments and you sent me into a 10 hour downward spiral that included NyQuil shots and binge eating Cheetos. I should hopefully recover by tomorrow! -

KenPom 2018-2019 KenPom Rankings Thread
Nebrasketball1979 replied to 49r's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Yes, I think that is the exact formula. Before the season I had us winning 10 non-con games and 14 in conference. My thought is that they go 9-1 in conference at home (probably a tough loss like the Michigan one a few seasons back) and then 5-5 on the road. We gave away the road win at Minnesota but I do think that loss serves us well on the road at Maryland and Iowa. I think that loss will teach this team how to close on the road. -

I heard that Moos told Miles he would have gotten a contract extension for winning 19 home games over this stretch. -
I would take a #4 seed in a different region (i.e. Midwest) and actually think our ceiling might be a tad higher. http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology Lunardi has gotten much smarter in the past year ?

Big East basketball is so bad right now that I think the conference will latch itself to any piece of good news! -

As the kids say....this post did not age well! ? -
8-10 ACC, BIG 10, and Big 12 teams have occasionally made the dance. I'd love to see what happens with an 8-12 Big team this year with say 5-6 quad 1 wins. I do think something similar to this scenario will play itself out this year for 1 Big team. The league is too deep and good for this to not happen to someone. I just don't think this someone will be us.

Yes, several has said its not a criterion that the committee uses. While this is true, the committee is not made up of computer robots who seed based solely off the NET, quad wins, etc. There are lots of conversations and I would be beyond shocked if other criteria are not discussed during the nearly week long conversations they have. Also, I have no doubt that ESPN talking heads and other national talking heads would make a hay day out of a BIG team with a 8-12 conference record being on the bubble. I can hear Dicky V..."Seriously Baby, how can you put in a 13 loss BIG 10 Nebraska team when you have Furman, these great kids from South Carolina, these great, great kids who have lost 2 games all year...TWO GAMES ALL YEAR. Seriously Baby, Nebraska was 4 games under .500 in their conference. They don't deserve it, it would be a total disgrace to mid-major basketball" I'm not saying that talking heads influence the committee but enough chatter and noise can certainly creep into the minds of the selection committee. They are not immune to hearing what people on the outside are saying. It's also not like our pedigree gives us any benefit of the doubt. Bottom line, lets just take care of business and finish at or above .500 in league play and we will not be sweating at all!
