Hornacek's name coming up quite a bit in discussions. I always liked him as player.

Congrats, Noah. Well done.

Moving the ball to the front court on a time out is pure and utter communism. And the 24 second clock is an abomination. Go ahead and ruin the game, what the hell.

He's very good, but he's 6-5 or so and a post player. He's going to be a terrific high school player, but his college choices will be limited by his size. Looks pretty mature so I doubt he'll grow much. The curse of the hairy legs.

Hey, everyone is entitled to a bad century every now and then....

I know this is tongue-in-cheek post but I think we see another school paying us to buy out Miles before we have to pay Miles to leave. So you mean to tell me there is a difference between extending the contract of a coach who had a top 4 finish in his first four years and a NCAA appearance rather than extending(that was no biggie) a coach AND DOUBLING HIS BUYOUT(LOL) a year removed from going 2-14 in the Big 12 and just a couple NIT appearances? Only to fire that same coach the next year? Interesting. Has anyone read that this extension doubles Miles buyout? Very subtle, 13. So, what do you think of Dr. Osborne?

Michigan wins the Big 10 tournament. Who would have thought there would be such a reversal of fortunes after we swept Michigan the opening weekend of Big 10 play. Did not see our epic collapse coming at that point. Michigan gets swept and rights the ship. We get swept at Maryland and were never the same.
-
Certainly looks bleak at this point.

Need to win the tournament. Would be shocked to see that happen.

All speculation. It wasn't that great of a job at the time. Other than a 5 year stretch, years and years of futility. Switching conferences which caused many coaches to think it would be a recruiting wasteland. As it turned out, the rest of the conference chose to compete, by upgrading facilities, changing coaches, increasing budgets. But that wasn't a given then. Just as we have seen in football and basketball, facilities and fan base alone doesn't mean you can hire anyone you want, or recruit with the SEC. O'Conner wasn't coming here when we hired Erstad. He just wasn't. Easy for us to sit on the sidelines and presume Osborne could have hired anyone he wanted to the tundra that is the Big 10. But I don't think that was the case at the time. None of us know who we contacted, and what interest there was in the job. The coaches you cite look good now, but it wasn't like they were huge names then. People make it sound like we voluntarily chose to be in this situation and the hire was a complete failure. It's looking grim now, but we had immediate improvement under Ersty, and have accomplished way more than we had in the 3 years before he got the job.

Wow, a revelation that you feel that way. Beat a dead horse much? I can only surmise that the time of day reflected some booze posting which brings out your Osborne bashing once again. Your posts of the last few days make legitimate concerns about the state of the program, but they are undermined by your ongoing Osborne contempt. Could make one think that you had an axe to grind from day one. And FYI, this wasn't the first hire in history of a coach without coaching experience. Happens at the highest levels. See, Jason Kidd, Derek Fischer, and other numerous examples in college and pro sports. The Erstad hire may or may not work out, but it doesn't mean your premise is correct. Do you really think hiring a first time coach at the pro level is the same as hiring a first time coach at the college level...who was out of the college game for what, 15 years? It has nothing to do with Osborne, I would make the same comments if Eichorst hired him. I don't think the job should have been given to who loves Nebraska the most....and who would be here the longest. Rather, the job have been given to the best candidate. Judging by Osborne's comments when he hired Erstad..and recently seeing a national college baseball writer say Nebraska is one of the best non SEC jobs leads me to believe we probably could have done better. Maybe Erstad will adjust with added experience? Maybe not...and by that time Alex Gordon or Tony Watson will be retired and can take over. Despite your protests, your comments over time on the various boards here suggest its actually about Osborne. And the sarcastic and disrespectful tone of a 12:30 a.m. post suggests it as well. Knowing who the "best candidate" was who we could actually get to come here is an art not a science. Lots of things go into it and it's not only about the one factor you have beat into the ground for 4 years. We had a huge amount of college baseball experience on the staff with Bolt and Silva. Mike Anderson had years of college baseball experience and he ran the program into the ditch. Erstad has done considerably better than him. Barry Collier had college head coaching experience and it was a terrible hire (at least with the benefit of hindsight). If this one doesn't work out, you can say "told you so", but a lot of hires by ADs in all sports at all places don't work out, involving coaches with various levels of experience. I disagree with your view that this hire was destined for failure because Erstad didn't have college coaching experience.

That's a fairly formidable squad, when healthy. That's a fairly formidable squad, when healthy. A VERY inexperienced one.

I'm screwed.

It is a great name, and "Old Testament" should go in the nickname hall of fame also.

The more interesting question is can Burno contact him directly. Burno is not currently an assistance coach with any team, so is this a loophole that might allow him to contact signed recruits directly without being in any violation of rules? Interesting post, Diehard. And succinct. Might be cryptic also, but Norm is the arbiter of that....

Rashon Burno

You may be right... Cryptic.

Very cryptic, Norm. A+ on cryptic. -
Went to that game today. Good crowd for a Monday game in crappy weather. We have good fans. Team didn't earn that support today. Very poor effort, very poor execution. Looked like a team that was done. Hope that isn't the case.

Just too easy, Jimmy. I'm letting it go this time.....

It will be a cold one at the park today; I suspect we'll see a couple balls at least carried out of the park to right field with a very strong north wind. Lets just hope all of those are hit by Huskers.

Who are we going to target for our new assistant

Jimmy, I bet you secretly had "Walter" tattooed on a body part last year. How did that work out? -

Hmmmm. A player coming, or going?
