  1. Silverback playing the MILF card; classic.
  2. From my perspective, a few minutes against a D2 team is way too small of a sample size to make any such comparison. It happens every year where kids look OK, or even better than OK, against inferior competition. And then they get exposed when the true level at which they are trying to play happens. Jake competed and held up over several years at the highest levels of competition, e.g. against Kansas. I'd love it if Johnny turned out to be that good, but a few garbage time minutes against a D2 team doesn't tell us much in that regard. And just eyeballing it, I didn't see the same size and athleticism as Jake, not that I'm an expert.
  3. This is an interesting way to look at it. I never thought of it this way. Though the JM era was a little before my time, the way it sounds, JM was a starter on a bad team. I never thought of competition level would be a factor, but it certainly is an interesting idea to think about. Jake was more than just a starter on a bad team. He was a starter as a true freshman in a good basketball league and held his own. While he was never the same athletically after his injury, he was still a starter for most of the rest of his career. Proven commodity vs. a walk-on who is currently at the end of the bench.
  4. Was this with Kent and Matt? Yes...post-game on the radio. And he said he would play "all 3 posts" since they foul so much, which gets him to 9.
  5. No way should you be "roasted" for just expressing an opinion; and expressing it well. Hope you're right about this one. I have a different viewpoint, and hope I am wrong.

    Iowa

It probably isn't a huge deal, but it probably isn't meaningless either. We were down at half to SW Minnesota State last year in our exhibition game, and sure enough, we sucked.
  7. Lee B. picks us 12th this morning in the Big. Sobriety. KenPom has us at 13th right now, so how is Lee's pick sobering? You might have misunderstood HB's point. He might not have been saying that Lee B's pick was sobering. I think he was just letting us all know that he achieved sobriety this morning. At about the same time he discovered Lee B picked us 12th. Those two events just happened to occur at roughly the same time. In fact, if anything, Lee's pick might cause one to want to drink. (And, why not? It's 5 O'Clock somewhere.) Norm, you know I didn't achieve the second one. It's friday.
  8. Lee B. picks us 12th this morning in the Big. Sobriety.
  9. Good stuff. At times like this funny helps.
  10. And Carl Hayes. Loved watching that guy play zone.
  11. The sign of the apocalypse.
  12. Good points, but I believe what pushed the "us vs. them" mentality much more than the fans was years of lack of support and undercutting of him by the Chancellor. Bo's own flaws and wiring contributed as well, but IMO HP was more responsible for it than fans.
  13. We would be in year 2 of the Riley regime. We would have gone 9-4 last year, winning the bowl game but losing to Iowa. This year, we would currently be 5-4, beating both Illinois and Purdue. We would have a serviceable freshman qb sitting out as a redshirt waiting for the chance to run Langsdorf"s offense, whatever the hell that is. We would be trying to recruit, mad as hell, linemen on both sides of the ball. And last but not least, we would be recruiting defensive backs faster than Andy Means.Correct me if I'm wrong, but Andy was all-Conference.And he took a vicious hit way out-of-bounds by the Okie State QB whom he'd just picked off and it went unflagged in the 2nd worst no-call in a Husker game I've ever seen. (Worst one was Eric Crouch doing the Linda Blair Exorcist head turn against Kansas State.) No Penn State Norm?I was talking about no calls on obvious penalties. As far as blown calls are concerned, the Penn State game belongs in the pantheon of the most impactful blown calls in the history of sport right up there with Jim Joyce robbing Armando Galleraga of a perfect game by incorrectly calling the 27th batter safe at first. As for blown calls on Husker football, the call of no fumble (or the runner was down) on John Ruud's hit on Kelly Phelps on the kickoff in the '78 Nebraska game is right behind the expanded field Penn state game. And it is only behind it because we went on to win the game anyway, as opposed to losing a national title because of the Penn State call.
  14. John (the jerk) calls and just taunts Miles. "If the season goes south like last year, are you going to take their showers away again"? Miles handled it fine but you could tell he was peeved. "Well first of all, I hope it doesn't go south, like I'm sure you do, John". Said his only regret was making it public'; that made it look like he was rubbing their nose in it. Our student athletes have a lot of benefits, and they need to respect it. He would only do something like this if effort and attitude were a serious problem, and something wasn't right in the Iowa game. And finally, no doubt for John's benefit, "we still have an actual coach, whose job it is to teach. This isn't Animal Farm. " Tufriggin'che.
  15. Slow start tonight. Led off with Halloween costumes. Then spent a long time on rules changes. In the scrimmage White hit his 3s in the first session. McVeigh looked nervous. Watson played great in the second session. Benny came back to play from his grandfather's funeral which was hard for him, but he wanted to do it. Kenya is a great teacher of zone defense. Picked up a lot from Syracuse. Praised the other assistants also. Moliniari is a defensive wizard, but also a good recruiter. Got us a couple of the guys we are going to sign very shortly. Miles doesn't recruit well once the season starts. Watson is not nearly the defender that Benny is; not physically there yet. Can play Benny and Glynn at the same time. Benny can guard the 2 despite his size, can get under screens Will update if anything else of note comes up. Kind of slow tonight.
  16. That's what she said.
  17. Anton Gill can. Did you see him at the scrimmage? Dude is nails. I could go on, but he possesses a skill that we haven't had much around here in many years, that I'm glad to see us have again. He's the guy I've been complaining we didn't have: The guy who can elevate and get a shot off in traffic. Everybody probably remembers my constant refrain after games last year, which was that we didn't have guys willing to take shots. The offense would generate open looks and then no one would take the shot but pass the ball instead. If there was any defender in within their zip code, they were passing the ball off. Gill doesn't need a lot of space. He showed that several times during the scrimmage. He gets terrific elevation on his jump, he has a very nice, smooth, high release, he gets to the spot quickly and can elevate on a dime. He might have been the best player at the scrimmage due to his ability to shoot off the dribble and also slash to the basket. Gill. He's that guy. Norm, I haven't seen him yet. Is he a bigger Nate Johnson with regard to elevating and getting the shot off?
  18. I realize it's tough to do...I'm guilty of it...but you shouldn't let your hate for someone cloud your judgment when posting. 1. We will not be a +20 point dog to Mich St...not even close actually. We may lose by 20+...but the actual line...highly doubtful. 2. The sell out streak would have ended years ago if we let it....and we wont let it end next year either. We still do very well filling the stadium, and will continue to do so...but there were plenty of games I went to under Callahan and Pelini where there were quite a few empty seats. Nothing like you're going to see in the future.
  19. Great job, Royals. The past two seasons have been awesome. Way to get it done. Relentless in coming back.
  20. Do you think Barry Alvarez might help out by retiring any time soon for Eichy to move north, in addition to Harv stepping aside? That would be nice, but I don't see it happening. But the new Chancellor, with inputs from certain Regents, will insure that SE never hires another coach at Nebraska. What happens should the Dodgers pull the trigger and name Erstad their new skipper. Doubt it happens, but you are right, that would wreak some havoc with my scenario. We would be in a bind. As Sipple mentions in his column this morning, Eichorst does not have the confidence of upper management. He is metaphorically dead man walking. If something as strange as Ersty getting a new job happened, the timing couldn't be worse, due to all the other things happening right now. You actually think Sipple has his finger on the pulse of anything. Come on HB. You know better than that don't you? He has had a hard on for the AD ever since his BOyfriend got canned. The only upper level person that even gives it a second thought is Clare and his reason for that is similar to Sipple's. Actually, Haymarket, Sip has many high level sources and contacts. I realize he will never be given any credit by the Bo haters, but trust me, he has more going on then you will ever know. I would be happy to elaborate at one or our Railyard haunts. It's too bad you can't move on from your Bo hatred. He got fired almost a year ago and is gone. If Eichorst will always be your hero for merely doing what Harvey brought him in to do, regardless of how he does at anything else, I guess that is your prerogative. If you think Eichorst is doing a good job and also made a good football hire, and if you think Riley is the guy, hey, that's cool. But perhaps you could let those positions stand on their own rather than hurling more Bo venom. Cause if I get your post, the only reason anyone could find fault with Eichorst or Riley is because they are still butt hurt over Bo getting fired. As opposed to actually watching this team play football and knowing something about Riley's coaching record.
  21. Watch how we do on defense early. Of course, that is not what most people actually watch. But Connie's defense is complex, and that is an area where the loss of 4 players with about a 100 starts each will show. And it showed today. I like the talent but we have a long way to go Clark can play, as Kansas Husker and Row 6 have pointed out. She knows the game. She will help us a lot this year, and help; bridge to the future. Shephard had big numbers, even with a balky knee and being out of shape. It won't always happen like that when the competition picks up. Blackburn has a great frame, runs the floor better than I expected, and you can see the promise. With experience she will be a good one. Havers disappointed a bit. Still inconsistent. Still looking more like a complementary player and more of 15-20 minute player than a 27-32.
  22. Cause they involved medical information!
  23. I voted in the poll, but this whole situation is way past looking back at Bo, The Eichorst hire of Riley should be looked at outside of that. We have the firing. That was inevitable once Tom was gone, for better or worse, like it or not. But without regard to that, we have the hiring. I recall when Danny was really struggling in years 2-4, no one could evaluate anything outside of their views on Moe. It was hard to have a conversation about Danny outside of "Well, do you want Moe back"? The lens here needs to be wider. Many can only look at the Riley hire based on their views of Bo. At this point it isn't about Bo. It's about Eichorst.

  25. So have the Huskers descended into mediocrity yet? Would love to be mediocre right now.
