doc back to HC duty? didn't see that one coming. And I'm skeptical. But it also may be what prompted the move to the old Lutz role: sort of warehousing Doc until something breaks his way without draining bench staff. Apparently, that may be the purpose of this SPecial Assistant to the Poobah of Stuff position: kind of a holding cell for coaches in flux.

well, there's always players to go to any Div 1 school. Question is, will it be enough to build a contending program in the MWC? And will he be able to jump back into his old CSU footprint?
-
i wish timmeh luck. it'll be a tough slog there with the two giants up north hogging the best of the local players. one thing he will do is jack up the enthusiasm meter for a bit.
-
i just want out of the frigging basement. maybe the occasional stroll out in the open air.
-
this has turned into a remarkable marriage advice column. i tell ya, HHC never disappoints.
-
Doc has 2 strengths both of which can still be leveraged here. He's a superb teacher of defense--the one thing most of us saw improve last season during our better stretches--and he's a good game prepper and scouter. I'm thinking he might be considering retirement soon, since I was always curious about him giving up a Div 1 head coaching spot where he was having modest success to go back to being an assistant. This is probably one of those moves where everyone wins and gets what they need most.

baylor's D is suffocating.

wow, i had a feeling the extra time would end the bruins. still boggled they burned so much of those last second dicking around bringing the ball up. I hate when teams lose the clock like that in crunch time. almost always comes back to bite them. zags should have no more focus problems at this point.
-
bruins giving zags the business. OT after UCLA botches the last few seconds of the game with a chance to win. phew! this one I didn't see coming. Neither did 'zaga.
-
KU not even pretending to care about NCAAs feelings. Or anyone else's for that matter. They deserve whatever happens now.

Moos under consideration for Pac 12 Commish
tcp replied to huskerbill85's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
If Moos becomes unavailable, do we hire Squirrel? -
So what does this do to our APR?
-
How'd they finish in the B1G? I haven't followed this season hardly at all.
-
i think we can safely assume the B1G ain't getting 9 bids again anytime soon. we'd better finish in the top 7 at least if we plan to go dancing in the next 2 years. still marveling at the sheer size of the egg the conference laid.
-
gonzaga headed for rarified air. i rarely think anyone's going to run the table, but I really don't see how anyone else can stop these guys. an undefeated run. since IU in 76.
-
so the "Freaky Friday" tourney continues. Thanks to Michigan finally bringing an 'A' game, the B1G's still alive. Thanks to UCLA, the PAC 12's performance is looking more like the one everyone expected from our conference. This should go some ways to getting some of the old respect for the Pac 10+ back, but I'm still hoping the Fighting Hugh Jackmans pull this out so we don't have a great season and wind up in the CBI or something.
-
Jays only chance was to catch the Zags napping in the 1st half. Heading for a G-town like blowout.
-
avoiding the loyola game. but hoping the Beavers pull this one out.
-
I'll be happy if we're up to 10th at least. That's my minimum expectation. I think 7 or 8 is probably a bridge too far, but it's not like it's totally crack-induced.
-
Naw, it was just Matt doing a side hustle of extended warranties.
-
this is what amateur free agency looks like now. guess we gotta get used to it.

Would you play for Coach Hoiberg's Huskers?
tcp replied to basketballjones's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Strong disagree. Most Coaches absolutely hate it. Some thrive in it, but still can't stand it. And honestly I think a lot of players really don't like it as much as you'd think they like the "freedom." That's just a hunch though. Make no mistake, I'm not suggesting they *like* it, but they're adapted to it. In short, they know what's going on in the larger sense of things. Some fans are, too. But most don't understand why everything has just gotten so mercenary. That was the point being made there. -

phew, this isn't a small topic. honestly, this is a set of questions that applies, in my view, to the sport as a whole right now. If I were putting together a profile on your fictional player, I'm thinking, "not a mercenary personality, likely is confused by the transition of college sports into professional farm squads and revenue generation schemes". So, I'd love you! But maybe the sport wouldn't. Do any of the top programs run sort of this traditional, "honorable" recruit 'em and stick with 'em brand of team now? Everyone's looking for an edge on the competition, both players and coaches. That's the example they're seeing, and it seems everyone's responded accordingly. Except the fans. Fans are the only ones really struggling with this, because we're the only faction of the sporting world tied to a fixed geography, when no one else is. What we want is something the sport as a whole no longer offers--a core identification with a specific team, state, or region. -
while the season's been a freak show, this is an underdog lovers tournament for sure. the 2 big hoops conferences of recent years having a miserable showing and a Pac 10 (heh heh) that had been all but given last rites in the post AZ era shows up to party like it's 1975. people still watching this thing, though, as lots of people still staying shut in at home.
