Danny Nee went 12-6 against Altman between K-State and Creighton, and the wins over Creighton were almost always blowouts. There was no rivalry until Nee was fired. So, no, clearly Altman isn't, but he was extremely smart for taking the Oregon job as his system works great with good athletes. Altman was never a great recruiter, but Oregon recruits itself. He was probably a better in-game coach than anyone we've had, but he was a below average recruiter, in my opinion, and recruiting in college basketball is about 5 times more important than in-game coaching. Altman would've been another Sadler at UNL--solid in-game coaching, sub par talent. If we're talking upside alone (recruiting ability plus coaching), I think TM has displayed recruiting potential we haven't seen since Nee, and Nee was definitely a better coach than Altman because of his ability to recruit. In fairness to Altman, he inherited a horrid program. He closed the talent gap with NU by 1999 and they turned in a winning season. So if you want to compare going head to head with reasonably comparable talent levels, you can't hold pre 1999 Creighton against him. They were a bad mid major when he arrived. He went 7-19 in year one, four years later the guy is winning an NCAA tourney game...AT CREIGHTON!His record after that vs NU is 8-2. Let's at least call it the way it was. How can you turn around a 7-19 mid major in 4 years and not be a good recruiter?? Using this logic you cannot count TM first two games versus Creighton or most of his head to head record against Greg McDermott bc McDermott has almost always been at the more established program. I would also like to point out that you used both of these records against Miles to justify your dissatisfaction. You can't use records to crush TM and "prove" how bad of a coach he is but then turnaround and forgive Altman for parts of his records due to certain circumstances; circumstances that both he and Miles seem to be facing. So please let's just "call it the way it is."

I am satisfied with the decisions that have been made in Husker basketball the last half decade.

Ranking Our probable Starting Lineup for Next Year
khoock replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
PG: Watson and Webster I would say are in the top half of the league for sure. Idk if I would go top 5 tho. SG: I think Gill and Webster will be top 3. SF: White, Roby and McVeigh are gonna be a top 5 position group. Possibly even top 3. PF: Morrow, Jacobson, and Horne have the potential to be in the top half of the league but I would prob but them just outside of the middle. -
Ranking Our probable Starting Lineup for Next Year

PG: Watson SG: Gill, Webster SF: White PF: McVeigh, Jacobson, Morrow Gill prob beats out Webster (Also Tai is comfortable coming off the bench already). I have no clue who wins the 4 spot, especially if we get a good center and Jacobson can move back to the 4. -
Agreed. And the AAC, though a drop off from most P5 conferences, is no slouch when it comes to basketball.
-
For what it's worth, Tulane lists Osetkowski at 6'8.

2017 C Sterling Manley -> North Carolina
khoock replied to AuroranHusker's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Don't see where a PF or C fits in to the 2017 class unless we either don't fill are scholarship for this cycle or that scholarship is filled by a grad transfer. I'm going to ignore the possibility of roster turnover from our guys until it is actually announced. -

Damn you beat me by two minutes on creating the thread for him. -
2017 C Sterling Manley -> North Carolina
khoock replied to AuroranHusker's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Just saw Robin Washut tweet that we offered him today. Aside from us and West Virginia, seems to be generating interest from mostly MAC schools. -
Physically, he looks a lot better than I was anticipating. Is he mainly a PF or do we think he could play the 3 too?

2016 F Thik Bol (Iowa Western C.C.) -> S. Illinois
khoock replied to AuroranHusker's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Ideally I would love to see Thik go to Nebraska (I went to high school with him). But I do not think he is what we need in a big man. He is 6'7-6'8, but with a very long wingspan, and very thin. I would not mind seeing him end up at UNO. -
I'll read OWH for general sports and Husker football and baseball but I have stopped reading their Nebrasketball stories. Strictly LJS for that topic.
-
Creighton is the OWH's team. End of story.
-
3 bigs?
-
I say this bc I think Hammond and Jacobson will be bigger, stronger, and possibly taller (Jacobson). Also, next year I think we will be better equipped to play small ball as we will be more talented and athletic overall.
-
Just give me a center that is 6'10+ with decent ability and potential. Idc if we have to redshirt them or not at this point.
-
If he chooses to stay, assuming he is actually considering transferring, I hope he's ready to strap it up and compete. Playing time isn't going to be given to him, especially if McVeigh, Horne, and Jacobson have anything to say about it. Once again this is assuming any of the things above are actually real problems Ed Morrow is dealing with.
-
I would almost prefer taking a freshman center that we can redshirt or a sophomore/junior transfer that has to sit out a year. Grad transfers are just a temporary solution and make this year's problem next year's (assuming we will only have one scholarship to give for next year's class). I'm not denying that a good grad transfer center could really make next year special but I also have a lot more faith in the current roster than some ppl. At the end of the day I guess it would depend on who is available on the transfer list.
-
If you were to compare 3A basketball in Illinois to Nebraska what would it be?
-
None of the post players should leave. Even with a center recruit, playing time is still up for grabs at the 4 and 5. Unless that recruit is a grad transfer that is a proven commidity.
-
Yeah I would assume he didn't sit out a year with us just to transfer again.
-
I would say the four freshmen, Tai, and Andrew
-
Just an interesting fact. UNO played Duquesne last night which is where Tarin Smith transferred.
-
I'm sure some will speculate because they believe he should have received more PT this year...of course, he was also injured for most of the year. Below is an interview with Morrow after the Maryland loss. Him leaving the program just based on his recruitment and what he says in this video would be a big surprise at this point. He will end up being a good one for us http://www.scout.com/college/nebraska/story/1651111-nebraska-falls-in-third-round-of-b1g I don't think it is likely, especially with his ties to the university.
-
He did?Do you have a link? I'm actually surprised he would say this before it actually happens. Not sure how to post links but I saw it on Brian Rosenthals twitter. I guess "expects" was the wrong word to use. The tweet from Rosenthal said "wouldn't be surprised if there was turnover"BTW I just not realized I posted this under the wrong thread.
