Nebraska will not pursue further postseason play
khoock replied to MidwestDrummer's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I see value in teaching the players that if you do not meet the expectations that you as a team set (NCAA or NIT) then you will not get rewarded (CBI or Vegas "16") -
Miles said he expects roster turnover <WHAT A SHOCKER> but feels comfortable that the main core of guys will stay intact.
-
Ed Morrow is a common name I keep hearing. These are just ppls opinions and they don't have any inside knowledge or anything. Just thought that he is an interesting name. Especially considering that on another topic I posted, who was set to make the biggest Jump next year, a lot of ppl selected Morrow.
-
I also think there is a good chance nobody transfers. Hammond and Bakari are already at positions that are a guy short. So playing time is there if they can get over the hump. Both have potential to be P5 contributors. And Fuller likely won't transfer this year since he has already redshirted. If he transfers it would be next year as a grad transfer but I really think he likes playing for Nebraska. Assuming none of the freshmen that were in the 8 man rotation transfer I think we are in good shape. Now if we could only sign that elusive big man...
-
I know Tim Miles will be having meetings with the players about their future pretty soon but when are the final decisions to transfer typically announced? Also, who do you guys think are the most likely players to do so?
-
I remember Miles commenting on Morrow's foot and saying it was not an overuse injury or anything like that, but that something is genetically "funky" (I think that was the adjective he used) down there (referring to Eds foot or feet). This leads me to believe it will be a reoccurring problem that the coaching staff and athletic trainers will have to learn how to manage.

Good thing we passed on the Vegas "16" tourney. Sounds like it's down to 8 teams and the teams being mentioned are not from power 5 conferences like the tournament was initially suppose to be for.
-
I don't remember where I saw it but somebody said Horne could easily pass for a Nebraska DE football recruit. Idk how accurate that is but it makes him sound like he has a really thick base.
-
What makes you think that? Did you see Miles glance down the bench whimsically at Borchardt during games? He said it on his radio show. Said he told Borchardt to be ready to go. I believe it was before the first Purdue game. And like I said it was bc of out lack of a center. If we get one he probably has no chance of playing.

I was thinking the same thing with the Laymon comparison.

Observations from Nebraska State Tournament

Did you see all of the Class A games? If so, what were your thoughts on Central's Isaiah Chandler and Norfolks Logan Stromm. Both are 6'9 bigs generating D1 interest. -
Observations from Nebraska State Tournament

Just read under Wingetts recruiting thread that the school recently released his transcript. -
I thought Arop had a quiet state tournament. But good for him for getting a ring bc Papio will be tough to beat next year.

Winnebago has refused to release Wingetts transcript last I heard. That is what is holding him back from better offers. -
Will do thank you. In defense of my grammar I typed the whole post on my phone so that's the excuse I'm going to role with.Norm is saying you need to be a part-time grammar cop if he ever goes on vacation. He wasn't commenting on your grammar. So, you're good!Oh okay gotcha. I was gonna say I was not gonna proof read that long post on my phone screen.

Walk-on addition - Johnny Trueblood: not much going for him next year. However, I could see him having a similiar impact as Mike Peltz by the time he is a senior. Good enough to give you 5 or 10 min when needed. Bright kid and solid basketball player. - Malcolm Laws: was the last guy off the bench every game and played the least amount out of anyone this year. I don't see much changing. - Tanner Borchardt: seemed like Miles was close to playing him in some meaningful situations this year. A year in the weight room will do him wonders to trasform his body bc he still looks like a football player. He is a lane clogger and if we somehow don't get our post situation figured out maybe he sees small amounts of meaningful playing time.

Since the season is officially over I'm gonna break down our returning starters and incoming recruits and the impact I think they will have for us. - Andrew White: starting at the 3. Should be a volume scorer for us again. Would like to see him add some more to his game and build on his versatility. I thought he was making progress towards the end of the season in being a more complete scorer. - Anton Gill: in contention for a starting spot. Will more than likely have to battle it out with Tai for a spot next to Watson. Seems to be a prolific scorer that can do so in multiple ways. From what I heard his weakness is defense so we will see if foul trouble becomes a problem for him. - Bakari Evelyn: don't see alot of time for him unless injuries occur or he vastly improves on whatever was holding him back from playing more this year. Miles mentioned he could play next year or redshirt. - Edward Morrow: potential starter at the 4. Showed a lot of promise in the limited action he played this year. Morrow needs to get healthy and add a competent jumper to his game. This kid is money around the rim. - Glynn Watson: starting PG. Not much competition for him at the 1. I look for him to take over and be a productive and consistent scorer and facilitator. - Isaiah Roby: too good not to play. Could work his way into the starting lineup as the year goes on. Will be White's back up and understudy. Roby will probably be battling McVeigh for playing time. Interesting to see if he is a point forward like advertised. - Jack McVeigh: possible starter at the 4 but also could have trouble finding minutes. White will have the majority of the minutes at the 3 so Jack will be competing with Roby for back up minutes there. The 4 spot is also gonna be a little crowded so I wouldn't be surprised to see Jack start but I also wouldn't be surprised to see him struggling to find the floor. Bulking up a little bit would help him tremendously. - Jake Hammond: most important player to develop this off season imo. Even if we land a good big guy we still need a decent backup. Hammond could range from starting to not playing just like he did this year. Ideally we land a talented center and Hammond is able to back him up with a quality 12-15 minutes a game. - Jeriah Horne: possible redshirt candidate. I don't doubt his skill but he seems to be in a log jam at the 4 with Morrow, McVeigh, and Jacobson. Plus I know he is a stout kid but he looks like he could use a year with the weights to get more cut and lean. - Michael Jacobson: possible starter at 4 or 5 depending on if we land a center. Everyone seems to be convinced he has the potential to grow so here's to hoping he grows an inch or two. Miles has said he is a great athlete so I don't doubt his ability to play the four. I would like to see his 3 pt shot develop more effectively and some smoother post moves. - Nick Fuller: more than likely buried on the bench at either the 3 or 4. Hopefully they move him back to the three and he can regain his shot back. Was an okay shooter but I think the grind of playing in the post really wore him down and made him lose confidence in his shot. - Tai Webster: possible starter at the two. I see him more as the 6th man as he can backup both Glynn and Anton. If he could take another step like he did this year you are looking at the 6th man of the year or even 1st or 2nd team Big Ten caliber player. Hopefully he learns to be more consistent with his agrssiveness especially with Shields gone we will need a good slasher.

This year we saw a Tai Webster who was night and day better from last year. Proof that we shouldn't give up on a player after one or two lackluster seasons. These players are only kids and have to learn to deal with both the mental and physical stress of being a student athlete at such a high level. For players like Tai and Jack they also have to adjust to American basketball and being so far away from home. Here is my list for possible most improved players for next year: 1. Jake Hammond. This is the ideal one. If he can get a little bigger and go from 2pt and 3 reb a game to say 6 points and 6 rebounds that would be huge. He is already our best post defender. 2. Glynn Watson is the most likely candidate. I wouldn't be surprised if he is around 14 points a game average and 4-5 assists. 3. Jack McVeigh is another logical choice just based on how much his production increased when Shavon was out. 4. Nick Fuller is my wildcard. With the added depth at the four he should be able to move back to the wing and hopefully he rediscovers his stroke. If he could pair up a decent 3 shot with energy and hustle he could be next year's Benny Parker for us in a way. Feel free to share your thoughts.

The importance of these two players cannot be easily expressed. They have laid a great foundation for future teams on how to conduct yourself on and off the court. They are great students and stay out of trouble. On the court they work their butts off and never give up. As long as this stuff transfers onto future teams Nebraska basketball will be in great shape. I am confident that it will bc I believe Tim Miles has recruited high character players that happen to be pretty good too.

Oregon will be a 2 seed for sure. Another unpopular example would be from the same year. Creighton lost to Oregon in the CBI finals that year and went to the NCAAs the next year. One cannot emphasize enough how important it would be for this young team to get more experience and a taste for post season play.

Nebraska (16-17) Vs. Maryland (24-7) Game Thread
khoock replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Not gonna comment on the foul on Watson at the end. But man I love the fight in this team. Just when you thought they have given up or have nothing left they come storming right back. I hope this isn't the last game for them.
