Wasn't sure quite where to put this, but had an interesting exchange with a guy on Twitter today. The kind of exchange you probably aren't going to have with a fellow Husker fan and really can't have with the fan of an opposing team. He has some interesting outsider perspective on our coach hire and what he's done in recruiting since he came on board. Interesting perspective. Let's just say he has no dog in the fight and while he isn't drinking the Kool-Aid, he also isn't trolling, either.

Saban has a bigger recruiting budget.

2021 F Matthew Mors -> Wisconsin
Norm Peterson replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
From the looks of things, it's ridiculous he isn't ranked by Rivals. -
2021 PG Devin Askew -> Kentucky

I mean for real.

Post whatever germane stuff here. What prompted me was I saw this on Twitter this morning: Should have a solid D line, and I didn't realize we had maybe the best returning corner in the conference.

At least one guy is in town working out. Doc needs to post more videos.

2021 SG Hunter Sallis ->Gonzaga->Wake Forest
Norm Peterson replied to AuroranHusker's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
@AuroranHusker Would you mind editing the thread title to include that Hunter is a Rivals 4-star? That seems to be a format that works well as you're scanning the recruiting threads. Thanks! -
First of all, a shoutout to @Navin R. Johnson for doing some yeoman's work on the recruiting board getting some threads started on recent offers. Second of all, a shoutout to @CoachHoiberg & Co who are doing some yeoman's work on the recruiting trail. I grant there's a big difference between an offer and a visit, let alone a commit, but our program has never made offers like this before. We're in uncharted territory here. These guys have no fear. And the way they've closed on visitors, if we can just get a few of these guys to come to Lincoln and kick the tires on our program, I'd think we'd stand a reasonably good chance of signing them. And if we can sign 2 or 3 of them (I know, BIG if), it could easily propel our program into the top 1/3 of the conference. The pessimist might say "just because you offer, doesn't mean they'll sign." And that's true. The optimist in me would reply like the commercials for Publisher's Clearinghouse: "You can't win if you don't enter." And, up until this year, we didn't enter. Looks like, for 2021, we sent in the entry.

So, Fred & Co have now offered the #1 and #2 players in the Class of 2021. I grant there's a long way from offered to committed, but I can't remember us ever offering a Rivals 5-star out of HS except that one kid from Florida during the Collier years who toyed with the NBA draft and never played anywhere.

We have an extra recruiter on staff -
Can't find good video on him but Rivals' crystal ball has him 100% to Arkansas, so ...

Recruiting Forum Guidelines for new threads
Norm Peterson replied to hhcmatt's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Just a suggestion on formatting new recruiting thread titles. If the player is ranked in Rivals or has 4 or more stars, put that in the thread title so that people can see a little more information about the player before they click the thread. Alternatively, if they aren't HS recruits, put that info in there, too. So, for instance: 1977 5-Star PF Norm Peterson ... or 1977 Juco PG Jack Beanstalk ... or 1977 Transfer C Paul Bunyan In parentheses, you can post/update their status, such as (offered) or (verbal commit) etc. This way, there's some sort of uniformity in the thread titles so we can quickly find certain info about a new offer and be able to look in the same place for each one. -
2021 SF Jonathan Kuminga 5 star
Norm Peterson replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
As you'd imagine, he has quite a few holes in his game. Those little orange holes suspended from a backboard 10 feet off the floor. -
2021 PG Kennedy Chandler 4 star
Norm Peterson replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
This staff is gettin after it, huh? -
This discussion happened in another thread somewhere and I think I suggested an over/under around 18. I was thinking 9 wins in the non-con and another 9 in the conference. But 9 conference wins is probably ambitious. That's why there's an over/under.

Shoulda known someone thought of that joke already.

2019 Transfer Shamiel Stevenson - LOI
Norm Peterson replied to Norm Peterson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I'm hoping against hope that he somehow gets his sophomore year restored. -
Is he being serious or is he mocking them?
-
I was mixing it up on Twitter yesterday with a guy who played soccer for Cincinnati busting on your non-con schedule. It was pretty funny.

If that's French for "skip the FIBA Euro thing and join your new team in Italy" then I quite agree, Jimmy.
-
Have you heard names of players who are actually in town and ready/available for practice? It'd be nice to know who was all here. Also, does Stevenson need a waiver to be able to play in Italy? I assume they all can practice even if they can't play.
-
It's like what they say in the recording business: "You're only as good as your last album." Fred and Matt might be able to get the job done on the recruiting trail even without much success this year. But it'll be a lot easier, and the ceiling for recruits higher, if they see a team come in and kick some ass right off the bat.

Recruiting class of 2021 is important. They can sign beginning November 2020. Would be really nice to show them some success in the first season.
