And he challenged Lobo to go 1-on-1 and obliterated her on national TV.

Right now, we're full up. We only have room for another 2020 kid if someone leaves. I guess it depends who leaves, but I would assume if we have a spot open up, we'd look for a taller athlete who can shoot the 3 and defend the paint. By the way, I know I've been guilty before, too. But clean up the language.

Rebecca Lobo didn't fare very well against Craig Kilborn.

2022 PF Jasen Green -> Creighton
Norm Peterson replied to Norm Peterson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
There's already a Jasen Green thread: -
No. I would imagine a final score something like 130-10.
-
Another thing: This kid is from Brewster Academy, and Armon Gates has connections there.

I think a lot of times offers are delivered during the official visit. The way I understand it, the usual procedure is you somehow get in contact with the coach or other representative of a kid you want to recruit. You send him a letter saying you've seen his film/watched him at a tournament/followed his HS career/seen his stats/whatever. And that you're interested. You invite the kid to contact you if they have any interest. That's like the first contact. The way I understand, the first contact is not going to be when you extend a scholarship offer. Once you hear back from a kid, you work to establish a relationship, and you might extend an offer at that point. But I don't think it's typically the case that coaches just scattershot offers to all the top kids hoping to snag one or two. If an offer has been made, I assume it's after some contact has been established and you've identified that this is a kid who is at least willing to listen to you. A lot of kids get letters and tell their coach/representative to tell the school don't bother, I'm not interested. And it doesn't go anywhere from there. I'm sure coaches prefer it that way because it saves everybody time.

It's like what Matt said. I think I read Hoiberg had I'm not sure how many former players make the NBA but it was several. Plus he's coached there. He has more gravitas when it comes to selling a recruit on the idea he can help them get to that next level. It's a lot more convincing coming from someone who's done it multiple times. And he can sell it with more credibility now, after a stint as an NBA coach, than he could before while he was at ISU. I never got the impression that the Jahlil Okafor visit was due to legitimate interest in our program. I always figured it was 1) doing a favor for Chin; and 2) what the heck, let's go take a look at that fancy new practice facility they built. I think the "offer" to Okafor was a show offer. I could be wrong on this, but I don't think coaches typically make offers unless they have gotten some kind of feedback that indicates a player would be receptive to the offer. If that's the case, then the caliber of offer we're making is reflective of a higher level of esteem for our program now among the category of people who are being recruited. What other explanation is there for the fact we're making significantly higher-level offers since Hoiberg arrived than any coach since Danny Nee?

I thought that's what we all agreed. If he got a combine invite, he could come back even after May 20whatever so long as he didn't get drafted. Was that not the case?
-
If he hadn't gotten drafted, he could have.
-
Congrats, Zay! Pick #45 was lower than we all hoped, but you'll be a great pickup.
-
I asked on another thread, but is there a point in time where Zay tells the GMs "don't draft me lower than X pick, because I'd rather go back to college for my senior year"?
-
CBS Sports HQ has Isaiah Roby as a small forward out of Northeastern. Geez, guys. That's adding insult to injury.
-
At some point, does Isaiah tell all the GMs "Don't pick me lower than pick #XX, because I'd rather go back to college at that point"?
-
Cleveland just took Matty Kavas with the 26th pick of the draft.

What I mean was I don't think that was a serious offer to Jahlil. That was like if I sent a note to Heidi Klum's publicist to see if she'd go to the Moose Lodge Banquet with me. And Jahlil coming out to look at Hendrick's would be like Heidi's publicist sending me back an autographed picture and a note saying she thought it was sweet of me to ask, but she's busy that year.

That's HIM! That's the guy!

That ball looks in. -
Mack and Burke would represent one of the fastest backcourts in the country.

I agree. We have some pieces to work with. And I agree a dude or two will emerge. Based only on what videos I've seen, and assuming everyone who might be immediately eligible will be immediately eligible, I think the best chance for star power would be (and this is a ridiculously uninformed opinion -- some of you are saying "as usual, Norm" -- and so this is almost certain to be laughably wrong, but …) as follows: 1. Shamiel Stevenson. I think this guy has "stud" written all over him. His size, leaping ability, wingspan, and 3-point accuracy give him the tools to be a prototypical Hoiberg stretch 4 on a roster that isn't going to have a ton of big men competing for touches. 2. Jervay Green. This one is a coinflip for me. It's going to be one of the guards who will emerge as one of the "dudes." Question is which one. Jervay has the best combination of size, athleticism, and skill to be the impact guy we're hoping he becomes. But it could just as easily be Dachon Burke, who is quicker and faster but maybe not as built to finish through contact, and maybe not as good of a 3-point threat. 3. Dachon Burke. If there's a logjam where guys are going to have to fight to get touches, it's in the backcourt on this team. Dachon is lightning-quick, with a lot of ability. I take him and Jervay over Cam Mack because I see Cam being a solid distributor who might not have the 3-point range to be an all-around impact guy. Honorable mention: Haanif Cheatham (worried about his shooting shoulder injury); Kevin Cross (loads of upside but needs to hit the weight room); Yvan Ouedraogo (an absolute beast, but a little raw and very young and won't be joining us until August and will be a couple of months behind everyone else.)

I believe so.

If Hawaii offered me, I'd commit there tomorrow.

That's quite a list.

If you look at the conversation we had on Twitter, what was quoted above was his reply to me. My reply to that was to say that he made a fair point about maybe not having star power and being “stuck“ with this group of recruits for a few years. I have mentioned before, though, that I wanted one or two more graduate transfers so that we could immediately offer those spots to 2020 recruits. On the other hand, there may be some star power in the recruits we brought in, Banton for example. If nothing else, we now have the role players in place for the “star power“ guys we bring in over the next couple of years. ?
