Nebraska(11-8) vs. Michigan State(13-6) Game Thread

It really is. So much more confident and aggressive on offense and pushing the ball. We are playing better defense which is creating more run outs too. -
Nebrasketball - Brief State Of The Huskers Union
royalfan replied to AuroranHusker's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Most everyone had a bad year last year, even Shavonstanding around on offense will do that. That was also one of our problems earlier this year with almost all of the players. Shavon is a great college player, but never going to be a very efficient one himself. Very good point about the standing around. Never quite thiught about enough in that light. It was exactky what the problem was last year. -
These guys didn't think Rice traveled.

Last time we did that I was so happy I dove into a pool in Mexico and ruined my phone.

I hope you are right Norm. Would be nice if he could at least make their bigs have to extend out to mark him. That is extremely valuable. I think we have a serviceable player at worst down the road. At best, what you described.

Our offensive flow has really picked up lately. We look like we will continue to be able to get good quality shots. I am hopeful this results in even better looks for White. He has some flaws for sure. But he is a really good college basketball player.

Shameless Plug: Watch Ed Chang on Striv
royalfan replied to hhctony's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Some striv announcing is awesome. Some schools get the students involved as a learning experience and it goes off the rails. That would be one thing I would like to see Tony. A suggestion area for the schools. Those students could learn with some good feedback. Either way, the ability to watch a bunch of high school football games for multiple teams that I care about is incredible. -
Absolutely would root for them. It is our problem that we are inept enough to never have won a game. It is miserable and pathetic on its own merit. For me it doesn't make it any less miserable or pathetic that we haven't won one, just because someone else hasn't either.

I like MIles and hate when almost anyone that does anything has people saying, "Fire them," but I haven't like the offense run here with or without Smith. Yeah, agree. Petteway needing the ball so much made it tough to watch at times. The defensive end is where I have noticed the bigger difference in our play since Smith left. Our rotations as well as ball pressure were much better than they are now with Molinari led defense. That is really frustrating since he was supposed to be a defensive mastermind. He has not been anything resembling that so far.
-
Have to look at the full picture of Miles career, not just the short time he was here. Smith was there most of the way. They worked well together. And by simply watching the games we are not being coached nearly as well since he left. What explanation do you have for that if it is not having anything to do with Smith leaving?
-
I have no clue who this golfer clown is, but I am starting to agree that I question if Miles can coach well enough or has enough coaching sense to get this done without Smith, who does have good coaching sense. There are more and more things that are negative about Miles that keep on coming. Something about him needs to be an unexpected positive very soon for me to continue to be on board.

uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: Vol 8, Issue 16 - @ Iowa
royalfan replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Yeah, we should be for sure. Miles doesn't understand that type of game. And Molinari sure as hell doesn't. It is painfully obvious that Smith was doing much of the coaching. Miles is not coaching well without him, and not making good hires either. Molinari certainly not getting it done. It is a very frustrating realization that Smith was such a key to this whole thing. -
Collins easily getting it done at a higher level in the X and O department. That much is very obvious.

Cincinnati 5-0 Vs. Nebraska 4-1 Game Thread

Daves partner struggling a bit. When you say at the outset both teams are great rebounding teams, you have not done your homework. -
Miles said Cincinnati runs a full court press...could be ugly!
royalfan replied to bkamler's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I personally don't care about the points against number. I care about point differential number, and doing what we should to have that number as high as possible. -

royalfan replied to bkamler's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Speaking of presses, it is annoying that we rarely one run. An annoyance press that is not going to get beat for easy stuff should be ran all the time IMO. Give them a chance to turn the ball over. IMO, it is a really bad flaw in Miles coaching, especially when we play small. And Molinari certainly is not going to suggest it. -
Question for all you metrics guys.
royalfan replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Wide open threes and layups(or dunks) should be what the offense is designed to get. 15-19 foot shots are extremely bad to take. -
uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: ed 8, Preamble
royalfan replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Truth be told, the Monday Night Football game was far more important to me tonight that this game, but I liked what I saw. One thing that stood out to me was how fluid Morrow is at pick and roll defense. Very nice to have a guy that can show like that and be plenty quick to get back to his man. I will watch it back when I get time. I think we can be pretty good on defense actually. If we learn to double well, there are going to be a lot of quick hands doing the doubles, and fairly athletic long guys to make the passes out of the double team tricky for some lesser skilled passing big men. The trick will be to rebound when guys are scrambling. -

Phil Beckner named the next assistant coach at Nebraska

I like his list. I like his offensive philosophies. I am hopeful he will help us on that end. Time will tell, but I think ending up with him instead could be a blessing in disguise. -
Guys who aren't being heavily recruited might have a greater desire just to win and, therefore, more of a tendency to play defense on the AAU circuit. Just a guess.I can just imagine some 4-star kid from Cleveland telling one of the Bison guys, "C'mon, man, this is AAU. Why're you guarding me like that?" Probably true as Nebraska kids likely play for 'team' over me, myself & I. Yeah, that must be why the amount of Nebraska AAU teams about doubles every summer. Nebraska kids have just as selfish motives for hopefully playing in college as kids do from any other state. Don't recall calling players from other states selfish, so not sure where that came from, honestly. "Team ball" is harder to accomplish in an AAU setting, IMHO; Nebraskans seem to have that part figured out better than many... obviously it's a generalization on my part. And, on that note, many others are not as adept at 'team ball' also does not imply that they're patently selfish on the basketball court by joining/organizing/playing-for an AAU squad. I'm not saying all kids playing AAU ball are selfish and play selfish, I am saying that every kid who is playing AAU ball (and paying to do so), is doing so to explore their own college basketball options, an inherently selfish desire. It's not wrong for them to do that, it just is that way. To say that, "Nebraska kids likely play for 'team' over me, myself, and I," is just entirely inaccurate and a gross-generalization of a "state's attitude." Which is not a thing. Each kid who goes and plays for an OSA team (for example), has the same intentions and wants than some kid from California who also joined a team to play AAU ball over the summer. There's no difference in how they are playing the game. One kid isn't screening harder for a teammate because he's from Nebraska, and one team isn't playing any less defense because they're from New Jersey. So Nebraska is having success on the circuits because we are overwhelming them with ability? Come on man.

The good thing about Petteway is that, drafted or not, it doesn't matter to him. He' just looking to do the best he can through hard work. There are many athletes who get drafted, but end up playing at D-League or lower their entire careers. It's the resilient ones who have the best chance. Agree. That is basically what I meant by saying "early on."
